Welcome into another week of the fantasy footballers podcast. Excited to be here and talk, free agency, free agency predictions. Andy Holloway, joining you.
Alongside my cohorts, Mike the Fantasy Hitman Rye and Jason Moore. Hey. And we... I'm saying hello for Jason. I appreciate that. We're prepared. We're prepared to make our official. By the way, it's Tuesday, March 6th. So we've got free agency in just under two weeks. Our official free agency predictions today are official unofficial predictions. Subject to change. Subject to reality.
But we did this last year. It was a lot of fun. We're going to walk through the free agents at every position and give you our best guess as to where they're headed. And I know there'll be some free agents that sign with some wild places. And so I'm excited to see. The rumors are flying around. I think there's a rule right now for a beat writer if you're in the NFL. And if you don't tweet about Kirk Cousins, once an hour, every hour, you're fired. They'll cut you. It's a rule. There's a lot.
coming in. I'll spell, I'll save it for the, uh, I didn't even know he was a free agent. I had no idea. But yeah, we're going to talk free agency. We're going to talk a little combine. The NFL combine took place over the last, uh, several days and was very exciting and very neat to see, except for the part where Ronald Jones got hurt, the one running back I was hyped on. Yeah, that was very unfortunate. We're sitting down to watch the 40s together.
And Andy is just counting down the guys until Ronald Jones. And then two seconds into the run, Ronald Jones Combine is done. Yeah. You know, Ronald Jones has become kind of a conversation piece in the office because.
I really liked him coming out of USC, 19 touchdowns. I think he's explosive. Mike's talked about, he's a little undersized, and I have to concede that, but not too undersized. I mean, you're talking 5, 10 pounds at most, something that I think is a, he could put it on. Jason could sit down with him. Oh, man, I got some tips on putting on the weight. Yeah, so I've been, and then I went back because Mike had some concerns, and people are all over the map. I think Pro Football Focus had them at their number two behind Barclay, and then I've seen him.
you know, outside that top five running back. He's very polarizing. And so then I went back. I watched more tape. And I said, dang it, I really like him. Yep. And then that happened on Combine Day. So we'll see where he ends up. But let's jump right into the quick question. What were your takeaways from the 2018 Combine? Was there a player or two that stood out to you? Obviously, the Combine is a piece of the puzzle. It's not everything we saw Dalvin Cook last year.
who had a terrible combine and an awesome rookie season. So what do you guys think? Well, I do think that you introduced that very well because you cannot, you should not, and you might overreact to combine performances. Last year, I remember after the combine, the amount of tweets that came out that said because of, you know,
You know, if you take the combination of this and this and this, no running back has ever done what Dalvin Cook, you know, has done and been good. And then, of course, Dalvin Cook was great. So I commend you for saying don't overreact. It's a piece of the puzzle. We do watch it, see things side by side, get athletic measurements, and put that with everything else. I would say this. Some of my takeaways, Baker Mayfield was one of the guys I was watching.
most, you know, I was very interested. And I sat two inches away from the television. So close. Yeah. And my mom was like, you're gonna, you're gonna ruin your brain. Get back from the TV. You still, you're still with your mom. Yeah. I just remember that was like a thing in our, in our childhood. Oh, you're gonna. Yeah, you didn't have the remote control. Yeah, exactly. You probably would back then. And in their defense, those old tube TVs, you probably were.
doing some sort of damage. Yeah, we probably still are. I mean, but moving along. If you sit two inches, there are problems. While I was, I was really impressed with his arm. I thought he was stronger than I thought he was going to be. But his athleticism was disappointing. His speed was certainly a little disappointing for a quarterback that is, you know, supposed to translate with mobility.
That was one of my few takeaways. Well, I don't want to bury the lead. If you didn't see the combine, if you didn't see the numbers, Sequin Barclay was... They've renamed the Combine. The Sequin Barclay... Yes. ...avent. Yes. It's a weird name. He is inhuman. He had an otherworldly combine. And I... This is the point I was going to get to, and it translates to what Sequin did. He was firmly in that top four pick.
But now he's being discussed much more heavily as the number one overall pick, and for good measure. Sean Payton came out and said he's the best running back prospect he's seen in 25 years. So this is the head coach of the New Orleans Saints. What the Combine does for me is I think I like the players that surprise me positively, and I don't worry as much about the players that I've seen the college production for, but then maybe they disappoint a little bit. And maybe that seems a little strange.
But if a player wasn't expected to run a fast 40 or put up 25 reps on the bench press, and then he does, it shows me he's got something else. Sequin was obviously incredibly impressive. I'm going to turn the other direction with Jason. I don't think Baker Mayfield did anything especially poor or great during this combine. I thought what stood out to me is when you watched Josh Allen, quarterback prospect Josh Allen, polarizing figure.
lower accuracy numbers. And you watched him side by side with Baker Mayfield. The difference in skill set to me was really, really evident. I mean, just the ability for Josh Allen to throw the ball from his own 10 and landed on the opposing 20. And the outside throws, everything had more zip on it than everything that Baker threw. And so I guess I saw why people kind of...
freak out about him. And he went to a smaller school. And so did Carson Wins. We got to remember that. Carson Wins came out. They remind me a lot of each other with their physical tools. And I think that Josh Allen is, he impressed me. So he moved up. I feel more confident with him. I understand the ceiling of Josh Allen. And that's what the draft community is talking about. Is the ceiling of Josh Allen? If you haven't seen the throw, it's very impressive.
how often is that particular skill set? And I know this might sound funny. How often is a quarterback going to throw a ball 70 yards in the air? That's very, very infrequent when that happens. I want a quarterback who can throw it 50 yards in the air, but very accurately. So that's where the question's coming for Josh Allen. He's going to be a top pick. We'll see. I just want to give a quick stock update for my guys. These are guys who have moved up in or just kind of solidified.
Obviously, Sequin Barclay is a robot. He is not a real person. He is from SkyNet. And this is just... We're all going down. Just to get us used to the idea of what the superior athlete will do to us. Nick Chubb had a fantastic show. I thought he looked great. I second that. Just the concerns about his injury a couple years ago, he had a great combat. Running back. These are all running backs. So Rashad Penny.
Royce Freeman and Bo Scarborough. These guys all kind of moved up for me or solidified their spots. Wide receivers, DJ Moore and DJ Shark. And then Mike Giusecchi tied in from Penn State speaking like Penn State came in and broke everything because Barkley and then Jezecki came in and just. They're going to need to test those Penn State. I mean, you just never. I mean, those two guys. I mean, he was.
Tested off the charts in every single category. Yeah, I bet he has solidified himself as a first round pick. What is a nittany lion? I mean, I know what a lion is, but what is a nittany line? Oh, I always imagined an elderly lion in a rocking chair. That's what a nittany lion is? Knitting. Oh, a knitting line. No, no, no, no. Nittany sucks. You have misunderstood that name for a long part of your life. It is a lion.
From Nitton. That is... Yes. I can't tell if you're reading it off of a... Are you reading that somewhere? No, of course I've not reading that. Where's Nitten? And then you also have to throw out... If we're talking common mind, all these different players, you know, I would say that a lot has been made about Ridley, the wide receiver, you know, coming in. Calvin Ridley, one of the higher end...
you know prospects coming in at wide receiver he had to me both a really good and horrific combine like when you watched the drills he looked fantastic i mean he was you know i mean everything that made him a top prospect but when you look at the measurables it was as bad as it could get i think his i would say it's as bad as it can get his his 40 time was okay he's just for his size it needed to be
I am not overreacting on Ridley from the combine. Okay. Some people will look at those metrics and say he cannot produce and I'm looking at him and saying he's a good wide receiver and I think that matters most. There is a Nittany Mountain, a Nittany Mountain in which lions used to roam, but no longer roam. Is that mountain located in Nitton as well?
Well, this is far as... We'll do a show up to the show. All about the land of knitting. All right. You go through a wardrobe. That's how you get there. That is how you get there. You can find us... A bunch of things that were knit together. Oh, my gosh. Yes. It's Narnia, but everything is knit. Yes. Grandma's delight. Can we mute them? On Twitter, you can find us at the FF Ballers or not. I mean, at this point, you may not want to follow us on Twitter.
YouTube, you can watch this mayhem happen. We're on YouTube. You can subscribe, click the little alarm button. But it's more of a notification bell. Yeah. Alarm makes it sound like you're going to have a problem. Like you click that. A big alarm is going to go off every day. The website's the fantasy footballers.com. We're on Facebook. We're on Instagram. Jason's wife texted me a video of him rolling down a hill this weekend. No context.
No, so. No information, just him rolling down a hill. So I put it on Instagram. Yeah, I appreciate that. I took the kids out to the park and they were all rolling down the grass hill because mom wasn't there. And I said allergies. No proof of that. No proof of that. So what? I don't care. I'm dad. And then I got in on the action and texted my wife. And then about an hour later, it was on Instagram. Thanks, wife. Yes, yes. By the way, the ultimate draft kit's available for pre-sell at ultimate draft kit.com. And we are still.
