Fantasy Football Podcast 2016 - Week 12 Waivers, Streams of the Week, Mailbag

It doesn't necessarily make me really want to watch the game, but it gives fantasy relevance to some of these players like a Terrell Pryor. Gary Barnage, those guys, when you give McCown the week of work and he's running with them and practicing and part of the game plan, and he goes out there, he's a gunslinger, and he's got the capability to put up points, turn the ball over a few times, put up more points, and that's just great for fantasy. So definite improvement, I think, over Cody Kessler.

for the weapons around him. I want to remind everybody that while they are all, every team is playing this week next week, the Browns, Terrell Pryor are on by. What are you doing? Tennessee, DeMarco Murray, Mariotta, you know, those guys are on by. So you're going to have to deal with a week 13 by, which is just bananas. You know, very logical. For a lot of fantasy teams, I would say the majority of fantasy teams, that's actually good, right?

Week 13 buy is a positive. You got through your entire season without needing to worry about those buys. Hopefully you've locked up the playoffs by then, and week 13 just barely matters. And then 14, you know, you start your playoffs and you're coming off of a buy. However, if you're one of those teams and you always need to check your league settings, if you're one of those teams or leagues where your week 13 is playoffs, I hope your trade deadline's not passed. Because I would certainly swap those guys for...

people that are playing in your playoffs. Ryan Fitzpatrick starts for the Jets on Sunday to make you hopeful for Brandon Marshall. I pass on this question. I'm too biased. It does give me a glimmer of hope. You know, the entire body of the season has showed me that no, I do not. Rest of season, Marshall or Hopkins?

I was, it's funny, I was going to say, we need to start viewing Brandon Marshall the way that we have been viewing, oh my goodness, the way that we've been viewing DeAndre Hopkins, because it, it's the same cause, the same Genesis, it's, it's quarterback play. Now, I have more confidence that Ryan Fitzpatrick can get it done than I have more confidence in Brock Osweiler. So.

I guess for that reason, I would take Brandon Marshall ahead of DeAndre Hopkins, but you need to lump them in that same group where you are not just saying he's a great name, he's done it before, he should be able to do it, so he's an auto start. It's not to say you can't start either guy, but he's not automatic. Well, I was going to drop my Steelers defense that I streamed against Cleveland last week, but I'm not going to anymore because they face Scott Tolzine.

But they probably will face. They may face him on Thursday night. Andrew Luck, concussion protocol. The reports are very unlikely to play very bad luck for luck because the concussion coming with the four, you know, four days before the Thursday night game, not enough time to get out of the protocol most likely. He could still be cleared. We saw this with two other quarterbacks, you know, earlier in the year. When you have that short week of rest like Carson Palmer.

You don't play. Concussion protocol. Everything was fine. Bruce Ariens was saying we're hopeful he can get back. He's on track through the protocol, but he still couldn't make it through in time. And they've got to move on and make a game plan. They've got a game to play. So you just can't mess around with waiting until the day of the game and going, okay, shoot, we don't have Andrew Luck. Now, the nice thing is, at least you know as an Andrew Luck owner early in the week.

We will have streaming quarterback options for you on today's show after we talk waivers. So there will be some options for you to pick from if you are indeed without Andrew Luck. Packers said that they intend to get Christine Michael ready. Whatever. I don't care. I don't buy in. No. I mean. What does ready mean? Able to get five or six carries in a game? Ready to be Nile Davis and what he was for those couple of games.

Rex Ryan non-committal on LaShawn McCoy for week 12. So if you're a McCoy owner, you probably already have a support group that you go to meet up with them again and get ready to figure out whether you have to get to start in this way. You better get gillisly. I was going to say, I feel like every shady owner already has gillously because they've gone through it. If you don't, shame on you. Yeah. Pete Carroll says Thomas Rawls is banged up after week 11. I was asked about this on the radio this morning. All you had to do is watch Thomas Rawls play football on Sunday.

after not playing football for many weeks and the way he hit people. Yeah, you're banged up, but you're alone in that backfield. You better get ready. I think he's fine. Eagles are hopeful. Ryan Matthews and Sproles will be ready to play in week 12. If they're not, it's Windell Smallwood. Wait, who reported this? I know. That's important. Did Doug Peterson say this? I'm not sure. If this is Doug Peterson saying that these guys are ready, they are out. They are out immediately. Yeah, it's hard to trust any report, certainly on a Tuesday. We need to watch how they practice this week.

and decide on that. Would you, if you're running back desperate, maybe you don't even own these guys, but you might need somebody this week. Does the possibility that Smallwood has that backfield to himself mean you pick up Smallwood? Yes. You've got a couple weeks in a row as well against the Green Bay Packers. I know they started the year as one of the best run defenses out there, and they have been still decent. However, the last few weeks.

as their secondary has just been destroyed and they've been giving up more points than any team in the league over the last four weeks by a wide margin, more than the Cleveland Browns. You know, that's the matchup on Monday night football for Wendell Smallwood or whoever. So if those other guys were ruled out, Wendell Small would be a great pickup. Someone will discuss on today's waivers. Absolutely. And then Tevin Coleman is practicing as the Falcons come out of the bye.

We'll watch him and talk about him tomorrow. And then a report about Adrian Peterson. If he stays on track, he could return week 15 and 16. I've seen questions about whether you should pick him up. I mean, what? He comes back week 15. He's not going to get a full workload. It doesn't really make me excited. They don't have an offensive line. And he was terrible before he got injured coming off of the injury. And I've only seen that line get worse and worse as the year goes on. If you play through to week 16, is he worth it?

You mean 17? Right. I'm not going to tell people avoid it. Don't pick them up and stash them. If you want to do that, go ahead. But I have very little hope for Peterson this season. I will happily tell people that I am personally not doing that. All right. Let's move on to waivers. Put me in, coach.

I'll start at the wide receiver position. If you grabbed Richard Matthews last week, he paid off for you, had another great game, and yet somehow is right now only owned in 60% of leagues. So he needs to be the headliner to me. If he is somehow available in your leagues, there has been an awakening of sorts, a changing of the guard in Tennessee at the wide receiver position. It is Richard Matthews show, and as long as Marioita keeps his hot street going, he's the guy to own, nine for 122. And 13 targets. Richard Matthews,

I talked about him yesterday. He's evolving into that Alan Robinson guy where you just, I mean, you can see it. You can see it where ESPN owned in 60% of leagues, a guy who's been tearing it up for, I mean, would he have six straight weeks with a touchdown? Then he goes over 100 yards the next week, and he's still not just 90% owned. I mean, people are not buying in, but at this point, you have to. You agree, Jason?

100%. I mean, since week four on, he's a top five wide receiver in fantasy football across the league. And we're in week 11, week 12th. I mean, at this point, you have enough of a sample size to say he should be started. All right.

Let's talk about that Cincinnati situation with AJ Green going down. We alluded to it yesterday. You guys gave me some thoughts on Boyd and Lafell. Mike, I think you said it was scoring system dependent. Yes. You said in what, half point and full point leagues, you'd be more on the Boyd side of things. In standard leagues, Lafell is going to stretch the field. Neither of them are owned right now. Boyd did have a touchdown last week? Tyler Boyd, yes. Okay. Yeah, he had the more production. And then there was the update on AJ Green that.

kind of dropped late last night, that it's a small tear. He avoided the surgery, big tear. So they think that he could be back sooner than later. We're talking, though, still 15, 16, 17? Yeah, I mean, maybe a month. But, I mean, look at Doug Martin. Look how much time he missed. I'm not hopeful for him, but I'm saying there's going to be a lot of people. Should I drop green? I would hold onto him, but.

Just don't expect him to be back. But don't, I wouldn't cut him. I think I've made my decision now that I would rather have Tyler Boyd if I were picking. Because I would like the upside of the young guy who is involved. Then, you know, I feel like Lafell. What's his ceiling? Wide receiver two. Yeah, but what's Boyd's? Probably a wide receiver two. Yeah. Yeah, but like one spot higher. Right? I mean, their ceiling to me is exactly the same.

Brandon Lafell is, I know we'd make jokes about Lafell's catching ability, which for a wide receiver is pretty crucial. However, Brandon Lafell, we've seen him do it before. Boyd is still the rookie. And I don't know. I'll take either at this point. But if I'm setting my waiver priority, man, that's really tough. I still lean to Lafell personally.

Yeah, either one is worth a shot at, but my expectations are not that you're going to get any kind of replacement here for a wide receiver one going down the road.
