Coming to you from the fantasy jocks.com studios with your host, Andy Holloway, Jason Moore, and Mike Wright. Welcome in to the show. Welcome to the podcast. Welcome one and all. It's Friday. The weekend is upon us, and not only that, but some preseason football action. It's going to say last night.
People were running around on the field with pads on. Watch football last night. It felt good, man. Guess what you get to do tonight and tomorrow and the next day. Football every day. Did you write that? You wrote that song? I just wrote that song. I made it right now. Andy Mike and Jason, the Fantasy Footballers podcast, back again. Fresh off of our MVP episode yesterday. Very excited about that. Thought that went really well. It was nice to have...
So many different experts on the show, sharing their fantasy MVP opinions. Latavius Murray, huh? What do you guys think? Are you trying to convince yourself? No. No, no, no. I'm just curious your opinions. I think he's a good value right now. If you're going to get him at that turn of the third and he does what he did last year and just gets a huge volume with a team that has a good offensive line, then...
Yeah, that he could be a stud. Yeah, it was a very unique and cool episode. So if you haven't listened to it, go back. We have nine different experts on the show, plus our own fantasy MVP. Technically, 12. 11. Sure. 11. You figure out who's not the expert here. Yeah, we've got a good show today, though. We have the 12 team standard mock draft. We're drafting from the turn, the 12 spot in the draft. Very excited about that.
And so we'll break down all of our selections for you live on the air. We'll be very good. We have a lot of news to get into. We have some thoughts on last night's games. I think different people here in the studio watch different games. I'll be reviewing them all this weekend, including tonight's games. And we'll give you some thoughts on Monday. I'm sure we'll have some injury news, unfortunately, and things like that. So before we get into the news and everything else, I want to take a second.
And I want to congratulate the listener league winners. Woohoo! And I also want to congratulate everybody else who participated because we have 300 plus entries. And I'm trying to go through and respond to the people that didn't make it as well. We emailed all the winners. And we just, it means a lot to us to have you contribute your time and efforts towards that. And so we are very thankful for you as a listener. And, you know, there were nine spots to give away out of 300. So realize that...
Even if we loved something you did, it just was impossible to put everybody in. But I wish that there was some way to have done that. Our thanks to you. Yeah. And so let me get to the quick question of the day, guys. This one comes in from Twitter from Todd Wiseman. He says, has zero R.B gone too far? Hmm. What do you think about that question? You can interpret it however you'd like, but has the zero RB theory gone too far. I don't think that the zero RB strategy has gone too far. I mean, it's for,
Where it works, which... Give a quick explanation for those that don't know what we're talking about. You basically go wide receiver extremely heavy through at least your first six picks until you're even considering picking up a running back. And the hope is that you are removing the fragility that is the running back position because they get hurt more frequently. And as well as you're loading up your wide receiver position with such an enormous amount of points.
that you can get away with kind of lower end running backs. And it really works in a three wide receiver with a flex PPR because the wide receivers are padding up so many points, just catching the ball. And then you get into the eighth round and you get guys like Bilal Powell and Charles Sims who are just catching balls. So they'll give you at least a floor of points while your wide receivers are just overwhelming everybody else. So I don't think that that strategy.
where it is applicable has gone too far at all. No, I don't either. The only places that I actually think it's coming into a good era right now in the sense that like, you know, that strategy six years ago probably didn't work well for you. But now with the passing of the NFL, I think that it's a good time for it. The problem, the thing that's going to make it less good of a time is that less good of a time. There you go. Wow. The word smith. I need to hold up this shirt.
another jason yeah we we we have a withstanding victories shirt i'm surprised you didn't say we got one and we got we're going to have the less good shirts coming in here in second but where where it's less effective is that yeah that's wow that sounded like you graduated high school i graduated college uh that's true all right so uh where it's less effective is where you know you're in a league and all of a sudden it's popular
and a lot of people are doing it, then it kind of ruins the own effectiveness of the strategy. Here's where it's gone too far. When you have a season-like last year that works so far in the advantage of the wide receivers that were drafted early, which, by the way, it wasn't as exaggerated as it seems. It goes too far if then you swing the pendulum so far in the direction of running back avoidance that either a bunch of people in your league do it and then you just jump on board instead of taking advantage of running back value, like Jason brought up.
Or you are swinging it no matter the league format. It could be a standard league with 2-21. I just don't find it. I mean, you're taking a risk. You're taking a big risk there in a standard league. Two running back to wide receivers. Yeah, since we ask this question and people are listening to us for advice, we should say, are any of us in this room using that as a strategy this year? No. I am not. I am not as well. I'm not, but I don't know if any of my leagues are.
I guess like the NFL type of situation, you're three wide with a flex. But from a broad sweeping perspective, I'm not in that format. And maybe, fingers crossed, maybe people don't like what is happening with the PPR. And they say, this is too much. We've gone too far. Half point. And we go to half point PPR. Yeah, maybe. So we're going to get into the news right now. That was a good quick question. We appreciate those on Twitter. You can follow us on Twitter at the FF Ballers.
We're also on YouTube. The YouTube channel's been growing a lot. We do our show after the show on there. And so if you want to come watch the show, see the studio, see some of the different things in here. Check it out on YouTube and the Fantasy Sports Network as well. And don't forget, we've got a couple cool things going on on the website. You can find our ultimate draft kit on the website.
This is our whole pre-draft tool that you can use. I know a lot of drafts are getting started in the next couple weeks. Jump on board. Ultimate draft kit.com. If you ever used to get magazines, you know, and to brush up on things to take into your draft, this is like... Would you say magazines are less good? I would definitely say magazines are less good. Okay. Yeah, this is like magazines on, you know... You never could read them, though, could you? 90s...
baseball steroids yeah no uh it's different because you got this lot you know jason's in there every day he's made this uh commitment to the auction values that we're going to get up today this afternoon and uh it's something that we can keep adding on iterating on when news comes out i think we're going to record a new video for jia jai today and just so that we have an updated perspective for you so you're not going to get that in a magazine and we're excited about what we have on there and the response has been really good the feedback's been good uh
Definitely check that out on the website. You can submit questions to the show on the website, the fantasy footballers.com. And without further ado, let's get into the news. News and notes from around the league. All right, the big news that was blowing up my phone yesterday that changed from time. Thank you, Mike. Look, this Lodarius green news is incredible. It's not good. Not only, so right now it's not an ankle. It's headaches that are keeping them off the field.
The report this morning is that Laderie's Green also hasn't disclosed those. It was from a September concussion. He didn't disclose them before he got a $4.5 million signing bonus with Pittsburgh who could look to cut him and recoup the signing bonus. And Laderius Green may be forced to a situation where he's off the field this year. He retires in it completely, which would be really sad and unfortunate for him. Another one of those guys that's like, I kind of felt like.
you know, if Eberon was hurt seriously with that Achilles, it's like, okay, we hype a guy up and you just never get to see it. Right. La Darius Green is very high on people's tight-in boards. We haven't talked a lot about him. He's not extremely high on ours, but right now it doesn't look good for him. Oh, the news yesterday was quite the rabbit trail of, well, the Darius Green is still out.
Oh, breaking news. It's Lederie screen's having headaches from a concussion. Breaking news, Lederie screen, considering retiring because of the concussion headaches. And then it was, oh, now he's going to get cut. I mean, it was this, this ramp of escalation that was just sad. I will say this, just, you know, we always say take these reports with a little bit of grain assault. Know your source. Not every beat writer is the same. Not every source is the same. I believe a lot of this escalated by Mike Florio of pro football focus.
Not focused. It's pro football. Yes. Yes. They're very, very, very different. Very, very different. A lot of good stuff comes from there. A lot of times stuff comes from there that is, you know, to stoke a fire, to create a flame. And this is one of those things where right now, if I'm drafting, I'm certainly avoiding with Darius Green. But I'm, I'm not as convinced that this is a career type of ending thing. If two weeks from now, he's.
back on the field. I personally am going to ignore this. Well, if he's back on the field, yeah. Yeah. Well, no, I know. But I mean, the scare of like, well, you've always got the scare of, okay, so if he goes out there and hits his head again, are you worried that he's going to have a... The thing is... I will avoid him because of this news. So I guess we have a different perspective. In today's NFL, though, it would not be a shocking thing now where if Lederia's screen just says, I've got head problems. I'm hanging it up. Absolutely. Yeah.
And, you know, there are people that have invested in him in Dynasty leagues that need to be thinking in terms of the long term. Yeah, so we can move on. Let's go ahead and talk about just some quick hitters from the preseason games. Yeah, let's talk about the rushing attack in Washington briefly. It wasn't a good night. I don't think there was no rushing attack in Washington. The rushing retreat. I'm sorry. They combine. They have three backs there now that are all involved, right?
in the sense that you've got Matt Jones, you've got the backup third down work, Pat's catching back in Chris Thompson, and you've got the seventh round rookie Keith Marshall, and all three of them got work. They combined for eight carries for zero yards. Yeah, I mean, and we don't read too much into it. I think I read more into the O line, just not being together on day one. But this is, I mean, built into Matt Jones is these games that this could happen. I mean, he's just...
