Fantasy Football - Mock Draft Episode + Mike's House of Cards - Podcast for 6/24

You made it a little bit easy on me, Andy, by taking Burrow and making me not have to make the decision. That does feel like the end of the I feel good about my quarterback pick early group, Alan, Jackson, Burrow, Daniels, and Hertz. In some order. Yeah. It truly is in some order that you, I don't think I'd blame anybody for taking. It's hard not to have Alan and Jackson at the top, but if you wanted to take Jaden, I get it. If you wanted to take Hertz, I get it. I was in a real. league where, I mean, it's a different scoring format that really boosted it towards Jalen Hertz, but I took him as the first quarterback. That whole group is shuffle up. So I like getting the last of that group. All right, Jalen Hertz at the 504, Cortland Sutton. I was desperately hoping that Cortland Sutton would drop to me. Yeah, that would not be so bad if you go high tea and you get a quarterback and then you can lead the way with Sutton.

That makes sense. He goes at 505, however, and you don't get him. Kyle takes Tet McMillan, so either I sparked something in him or he's on the same wavelength, which is him sitting there as the number one, a top 10 pick, Bryce Young's resurgence, there's some PPR value to be had there. And then George Pickens goes off the board at 507. So, Mike, you are on the clock, McCaffrey, H. N. Camara. I mean, I kind of like it. It's a PPR explosion at running back. I am in a house of cards right now. Oh, it is. This thing could topple at any moment. It is so fragile. The point of a mock is the experimentation. Yeah, that's what I'm going with. This is not your draft. But I am curious now how you navigate feeling better about the house of cards from here on now. Is there a way that you can ensure these guys or make yourself feel better at running back if one of them hits the shelf?

I would bet a lot of money that Camara and McCavvy don't play 17 each. Sure. So, you know, I'm just curious to see how it goes. Yeah, but I have to start looking at the wide receiver position or it's going to be all flyers and upside at an entire position, which that's not feeling great heading into the draft. You might already be there. I might. I might, but there is a name who, look. I'm surprised Dandy didn't draft them in round three. Betts is letting me know we're into tier eight of the UDK rankings at wide receiver right now. Yeah, that sounds right. Oh, James. But I'm going to take Jameson Williams here, who I am in agreement that is being undervalued. Zay Flowers, who went next to Joe. He was, he's in some consideration for me, but the, I need, I need some touchdowns. You need alpha potential. Yes.

Yeah, I went stack with Burrow versus taking my guy in Jamison, but I love it. Much better value than I got last draft. Flowers off the board. Godwin next. Waddle at 511. T.J. Hawkinson. I think there's some PPR value right there. Yeah, absolutely. At the 512. And then Trayvion Henderson in New England at the 601. Caleb Johnson at 602 and David Montgomery at 603, three running backs leading off the sixth round. you know, Monty at the 603 feels all right to me. As a running back three, that's fine. And Caleb Johnson, I thought maybe I'd hear a groan from Jason. I didn't see it. I didn't see it. Caleb Johnson got drafted. He's not on your team. Ah, he's no longer in my queue. DeAndre Swift at the 604 could also be a steal. So Mike, you're back on the clock.

You took Jameson. Flowers, Godwin, and Waddle at Wide Receiver went after you, and that was it at wide receiver. So looking at the ADP, worthy's at the top. Olave is, man, Olave is interesting here, considering the build of my team. Don't love doubling up on the New Orleans Saints with that situation that they got going on with their quarterback. Travis Hunter. is on the i'm just reading through 80p jordan addison i'm i am concerned about a suspension for this year so i don't think i could start with him so i'm it boils it down to olive i have to do it i have to do it that's the regasps for one pick it's yeah because it's that's the minimum for drafting olive yeah it is it's one gas per concussion oh oh you need more gasps uh

Joanne Jennings, was he in consideration? He was. I thought I would be overdrafting him and I thought I could sneak him into the future round. Yeah, I thought I could get him. Yeah, I know. Sometimes you gamble and you lose. Sometimes it's not a fart. Oh my gosh. Olave and then John Jennings and then Xavier worthy off the board to Kyle. Yes, because I let me like like Jennings is higher in my rankings than Olave. Yeah. But. tried to play the game and I lost. I understand the enticement of Alavi in your specific situation because of what we've thought he could be. A world exists for Chris Olavi this year, even with bad quarterbacks too, because he's just the guy, show up with a, I don't know, high 20, like a 28% target share and just, and truly, I mean, PPR his way into value.

Maybe you're only looking at four touchdowns, but you could be talking 80, 90 plus receptions here. Tony Pollard off the board at the 608 ahead of Jason selection. Jason currently with Chase Brown and Bejohn at running back Higgins and Devante Smith. Two running backs, two wide receivers. I have two players in my cue. One is a running back. One is a wide receiver. Very difficult to decide which one to take. But I look at the three teams left. between me and my next pick. So they get six picks. And of those three teams, each one of them only has one running back. So that makes my decision a lot easier in the sense that I think that they are going to probably have to, yeah, a little bit of strategy. So I'm going to take RJ Harvey here. We talked about him a while ago. I think in a PPR league, very talented. He's in the system. Man, that seems like he, did he fall already?

What am I just remembering? No, he's falling a little bit with the J.K. Dobbins news, but it's certainly to me, I think, a rookie in Sean Payton's system that targets the running back so much. It's a good value there. Well, I was hoping Harvey or Aaron Jones would fall to me at the 612. Harvey is gone to Jason. Aaron Jones goes next to Kurt and Roma Dunzee. I don't know if that's best just trying at this point. Wasn't going to be the pick. But, you know, he's in the queue. So I'm back on the clock, took Burrow, which cost me at running back. I look at the running backs that I could have had, and I do feel like it's a tiered down right now. I can take a chance on Pacheco returning to form. Not hyper excited. Brian Robinson, we've talked about him as a value. I like that. But you are, it's getting.

Ugly. It's getting ugly. I can trade you a running back. Man. I, you know, how do you view Leporta and Kelsey in a full PPR? Kelsey is a very big question mark. The way that I am projecting this season, I think Kelsey is going to take a significant hit in his target market share. He's always been 24, 25% plus. I've got him sub 20 for the first time in his career. If he's not, if he doesn't take that hit, then he should, he's going to be one of the best values in the draft in a PPR league. Even if he doesn't have the crazy yards after catch or yards per reception, the volume's always been there for him. So it's just a matter of how you're projecting the chiefs and you've got to call your shot. Historically, it's been pretty good idea to bet on Travis Kelsey. I'm going to go ahead and take Isaiah Pacheco with the first of the two picks. Oh, gross. Yeah. Yeah. Well, I mean, look, Mike.

My choices at running back at this point are Tyrone Tracy. Is that more gross? I don't know. I mean, I'm not, I didn't take Brian Robinson. I took Pacheco over Brian Robinson because I have McLaren on the team already. Yeah. And those two are, it's close. Naji Harris, how much work is he going to get? Is it going to get handed off to Hampton? I need a running back of value here. And so it's tough. I don't, Javonte Williams, Ramandre Stevenson. It is thinned out. Yep. So, you know. All the signs, all the news reports, all of the camp talk, Pacheco, back to his former self. Oh, is that whether I haven't read any of those. No, it's been good reports. It's been very positive whether you get that on the field. We'll see. There is an argument to be made for Pacheco that if he's back to full health.

He really is, he doesn't have a lot of competition there. I know they brought him Elijah Mitchell and they brought Kareem Hunt back. I think it's competition for him. I mean, personally, I'm, I'm negative on Pacheco. I think it'll be a three-way time share. And last year they used Kreme Hunt as a pass catching back and near the goal line. Yeah. Win Pacheco. Your high value touches are gone. Yeah. All right. My, uh, my next pick is, is probably a surprise? But I went with Stefan Diggs. That is a surprise? In a full PPR, we, we've had the conflicting. Is he ready? Is he not ready?

reports that if he's ready that's a fantastic pick i mean in the seventh round the number one target for drake may who you guys have confidence in i think it's a perfect selection when you already have three wide receivers so you get to see if you've got something special there in ppr Travis hunter goes next Calvin ridley goes at 703 your groan was for what jason Travis hunter i was between Travis hunter and rj harvey i thought maybe um i could end up getting both of them when i picked harvey i i definitely think I use the right strategy and getting a running back there with the running back tier that was left. It's all gross now. And there's still wide receivers I like. I'm going to take one of them here. I'm going to grab a guy who was. Don't tell us. Oh, I'm not. Tell us in a second. Oh, TBD. Would you want a player who in the last eight games last year was on pace for 121 receptions and 1,723 receiving yards? I would. That's Jerry Judy. Oh, man. His situation's exactly the same. It is because Amari Cooper's not there anymore. And everything else is the same. James is the quarterback. Oh, I could dream a dream. Four White House to start the seventh round, it goes Diggs, Hunter, Ridley, Judy. And. I mean, the same thing with Judy. If it's Joe Flacco and Jerry Judy is being drafted around this range, that that will end up being wild. But I think that's a, again, fragile because it might not be Joe. It might be Joe for.

four weeks it might be joe for a month that's all i need baby and then trade jerry judy one month the team says no we got a we got to look to at the other guys we got to look at the kids it could start with can he picket oh julia oh come on well bo necks goes and then kelsey goes and mike was going to eat his fancy vegetables and jacoby meyers and he's on the clock because myers finishing the sentence myers goes right before his selection. Oh man. So now you've got to scramble. I felt so good about that. You got to figure it out. Yeah, I got it. Other people eat healthy too, Mike. I got it. I'm going to draft a player. Boy, by the way, Julia has like your, you're like dream team of whiteouts here with Pickens. We share John Jennings and then Jacoby. We share a lot of.

fantasy philosophies. Well, she has mixing, so not everything. Well, yeah. Hey, that'll be too weird. All right. So, uh, how are you feeling, uh, three picks removed from your triple running back choices? We're getting there. We, we are, we are, we're getting there. We're building that wide receiver room. Uh, I'm going to go with the guy. It, he doesn't get talked about. I think enough on this show. He recently came up on, I think a footcast, but the dude got a bag. I got Josh Allen. Khalil Shakir as my wide receiver three with, I mean, I'll just take his floor with potential ceiling there. So I'm in the late seventh to get Shakir. I'm for it. All right, Shakir to Mike. Brian Robinson does go at seven or nine. Brooks, you devil dog. Come on, man. Brooks takes Josh Downs at 7.10. He was in my cue as well. Oh, he wasn't making a, I was going to go Shakir Downs. It was going to be great.

Well, he said he wanted Shakir, so you took him from... We might make a trade later. All right. Well, Debo... It's a mock draft. It's a mock trade. It's a mock trade. Oh, it's just a mock trade. Mock trade show. Josh Downs, Debo, Samuel, Ricky Pearsall, finishing out the seventh round. Keon Coleman, who recently the news came out that Keon Coleman was dealing with injury, I think, in week nine and beyond disrupting his rookie season. Travis E.N. goes at 802. He was definitely a target for my next pick. somebody that can catch the football out of the backfield with a shot at the number one overall spot in Jacksonville. Jaden Reed off the board. Mike Q has been just decimated and cleared out in the last like seven picks. So Downs and Jaden Reed to Brooks in back-to-back, seventh, eighth round picks. Debo at 7-Eleven. I don't know how you feel about that. Debo that? I mean...

I don't know how to feel about Debo. I feel like I'm mostly out on Debo, a player who seemed like he lost a step last year. I feel like I'm completely out. Changing teams at an old age. But at this point in the draft, it's also tough to say you're out on a guy who it's not costing you much here who's been a top fantasy option in the past. All right, Baker Mayfield goes at 804. And Mike, you're back on the clock. You have taken Jameson Williams, Chris Olavay and Khalil Shakir the last three rounds. Man, I would, if I had gotten Josh Downs right here, I would have felt the cards a little bit more secure. The wide receivers at this point, Addison, again, the suspension, I don't know, IEuk, when is he even ready? Cooper Cup.

Andy, who talked about him as a bust pick recently, which I think I agree. And then it's just taking some up, you know, some real shots on unknowns. And I feel like you guys, I'm looking at the draft. So in between me and my next pick, three teams have taken a tight end. I think that I would guess at this point that a few will be taken off. For me, I don't want Johnnyu and A-chan. So it comes down to Sam Laporta and Evan Engram. Do I think that Engram will get enough PPR action to outproduce Sam Leporta? I think it's real close. But with what happened, I know I have two lions. And this one I am actually okay with because I want, I think that Leporta is the better tight end pick over Evan Engram. I'm willing to go in on the lines offense. So you took Leporta? Yeah. Jason's doing a fist pump over here. Jalen Warren, Jaden Higgins, and Jordan Addison.

The triple J's off the board. Jason did a fist pump. Is that what the fist pump was for? He probably saw his Judy pick and was thinking about it again. He's like, yeah. No, my, my fist pump was, I think in the eighth round, the best, the value at tight end goes to me. It goes, McBride and Bowers, great. Kittles probably the best value. Yeah. And then I want to punt forever until to be late. But my, literally in PPR, my tight end four. is the guy I'm able to get in the eighth round, and I'm so happy you have a chance. So you believe that it will happen again. I do think, yeah, I mean, he was the tight end four last year, Johnny Smith and a PPR hyper-targeted with those short Tua targets. And so I'll be thrilled in a full PPR to get him in the eighth. All right, well, that works for me, Jason, because Mike was between Leporta and Ingram. That would have been the selection that I was between as well. Johnny Smith goes to you, which I think that's a good pick. He was a PPR monster.

Najee and Tyrone Tracy go. So I think my picks here are going to be fairly simple. I'm going to take Evan Ingram for the PPR value at tight end. They signed him for a reason. And then I'm going to come back and just take another shot at my running back spot. It is thin and nasty. And like I'm talking Giovante and Ramandre, two players where if I draft them, I need a bucket because I need to throw up a little bit. Yeah. And in PPR, even more so, I feel just kind of gross. I don't know. I really honestly don't know how much work Javante is going to get. But I know Javante is not what he was. So I'm going to take a third down shot. And I'm going to take Cam Scataboo. Yeah, that was true. I was going to take it. I'm going to take Scataboo. He goes two picks after Tyrone Tracy. And you had him on the board, Jay? Yes, yes, sir. So Jordan Mason goes next to Betsy. Also a great pick. Yeah.

Yeah, at this stage, ninth round. I mean, we are almost at the end of this draft. You're taking some shots. Jordan Mason and then Egbuka goes at the 903, Jason. You're back on the clock. So there's three players. Didn't see you fist pump. No, no. There's three players I like here, Javante Williams, I think is a value in the ninth. Obviously, he's not the same. I love Trey Harris, rookie wide receiver for the Los Angeles Chargers. And then a safe pick in Darnell Mooney. So I'm going to make my decision based on my roster. Right now I've got Bijon, Chase Brown, RJ Harvey. I'm happy there. T. Higgins, Devonte Smith, Jerry Judy. I feel like I could use a little bit more upside at wide receiver. So that dictates that I'm going to take Trey Harris for the hope that he is the, you know, I think he is a very good wide receiver on a, you know, playing for Herber. And he's going to be, you know, that outside guy that they need. Trey Harris, David Njoku goes next. Patrick Mahomes at 906, Rashid Shaheed.

Mike back on the clock after the Laporta pick. Oh, man. All right. So my team is actually, I have now balanced out the scales here with the three running backs, three wide receivers. I got my onesie positions filled at this point. Oh, man, Giovante right here, he's not what he once was. It's an alluring upside pick because the Cowboys will be. They will be a strong offense. I just, I don't know who it's going to be. Looking through the rest, like Rashad White, does he catch enough passes that you're still happy? White has the upside, you know, if you guys are worried about, if you worry about the undersized bucky injury situation. Yeah, for me, though, in the ninth, like, if I'm taking Rashad White, I got to feel comfortable that I could flex him, you know, if things went wrong, you know, with my first three picks at the wide receiver position, like Matthew Golden is there.

I didn't realize Kyle went super stack at Kansas City. Worthy Kelsey Mahomes. Man, you got Mahomes and you got the wrong Kansas City Chiefs. Should have got rice. That was weird. Weirdo. Matthew Golden is there. He was a first round wide receiver. I don't know that I believe he should have been, but he was for a team that really needs a number one. I'm trying to quickly scroll through the wide receivers. I'm going to take Javante here. Am I? Am I? Oh, man. I am. Oh, the struggle is real in the ninth. I told you this was an experiment here of starting with three running backs and a quarterback. And it has been difficult. So remember when I asked you how you were going to ensure those kind of injury prong guys at the top? I didn't know your answer was going to be Javante. That's right. But that was your answer. Cooper Cupp. Garendo. Yeah, that's what I was thinking about that. Cooper Cup. Javante appeared in every game last year. 9.09.

Yeah, part of it. Devante did not appear in any game last year. Dobbins, Mark Andrews at 9-11. Caleb Williams goes at 9-12, Mr. White, Rashad White at 10-01, and Matthew Golden at 10-02. Yeah. Yeah, Golden was... Would you have taken Golden there? At 10-0-2? No, at my 908. No, I think with your team, I would have taken Garindo. I think that's what I would have done. Would you get another shot at? But Golden goes... Tucker Kraft and Zach Charbonnet. You have your second to last pick here, Mike. You're back on the clock. Yeah. In hindsight, I wish I would have taken Matthew Golden there just for the upside. Looking through the wide receivers. Oh my gosh. I mean, Cedric Tillman is there. He's kind of interesting. Romeo Dobbs is... Bad. He's not bad. He is... He is a very flexible player. He just...

It touches toes. Yeah, no, I know. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, he, I've, in our dynasty, like, I've started Romeo Dobbs on many occasions. And it has what? What are you pointing it? I'm just pointing at this new tech we have that we are not supposed to do sound effects. Oh, we'll just peel back the curtain. Yeah, when we're, when we're done with this, we get, we got the warning from the producers. We're good. We're good. But, yeah. Okay. All right. That's why you have a real drum set here. All right. We're going to take some fantasy vegetables here. I'm going to take Darnel Mooney in the 10th round. Oh, come on, man. I don't think there's much of a difference between that fantasy vegetable and the one you could have taken three rounds earlier in Jacoby Myers. So that's a great pick. I had two players in my queue from a while ago. They were actually Giovante Williams and Darnell Mooney. And so you just took your last two picks. You used.

What an incredible turn of events. Kyle Williams, Brandon and I. I felt terrible about both of them. Ray Davis off the board. And then Jason, your second to last pick here at the ninth pick in the 10th round. Yeah, I'm looking. I feel like I could use another running back more than anything. If I'm, you know, Ramondre Stevenson is out there, but he's playing with a much better player in Trayvion Henderson. You got this shot of Jalen Blue being a pass catching guy. I don't like any of the running backs here. So you can't make me take one. I'm going to take a guy that is not getting enough respect. Michael Pittman is a good wide receiver. I was between him and Mooney. We can say Josh Downs is the better receiver on this team, but Michael Pittman has been a very reliable target. And the report out of- Oh, thank goodness, Matt. The report out of camp has been that, you know, Pittman is making sure.

that he is going to get his targets. It's an amazing pick in the 10th round. Thank you, Matthew Betts. From making sure you didn't have to draft Remandre? From making sure I didn't have to look at, because Remandre in the 10th round is stupid value. Remandre is the starter. Yeah? All the news out of camp is that Henderson has a ways to go and that they're not going to use them between the tackles to start off. Now, that could change, but Remandre is going to be their number one running back to start the year, and that is good enough for a little while.

in the 10th round. But thank you for taking him. I'm going to go back-to-back whiteouts here to end my draft. Both of them starting whiteouts that are just undervalued. I will take Rashad Bateman with the 12th pick at the 10th round, and I will take Calvin Austin, who will start and, you know, kind of just ignored by everybody in the fantasy community. And yet Aaron Rogers is there. and he's an explosive player that can get things done. So I think there's some upside potential in Calvin Austin as a shot for week one, see what happens, and then you can move on. Tutin? Thank you. See, that's the sound effect you can do. Yeah. That's not using the technology. Tyler Warren off the board, Jason, you got your last pick. We're rounding this thing out. I want a sleeper running back, someone that could surprise. I'm going to take a complete bust from last year. Jalen Wright.

Second year running back for the Dolphins and hope that with Moster out of the way, they've been talking about using him more. He's, you know, 210 pounds runs sub 4-4. That's my pit. All right. Roshan, Trey Benson, Brock Purdy, Julia Grabiner, quarterback, the last quarterback. Or actually, there's two teams that need them. Wow. We got some really late rounders. Yeah, Brock goes and then, let's see if I can predict this. Brooks and Brian both need one. Who's Brooks going to take? Probably Dak. That's my guess. But, Mike, you're on the clock. Final pick. A sleeper, I guess. I mean, this was a from Superstar 2 sleeper running back in a PPR format. We're in all agreement that Brian Robinson is a fine value pick because just buy into the Washington offense. That's not a bad picker. Echler was what?

He only showed up in, he only played in 12 games this past year, but he was averaging over three targets a game in that time. And things could break the right way for him. I'm going to take Echler here. All right, Austin Echler with the last pick of Mike's team. All three of us have finished the draft. So I ended up with Chase, Garrett Wilson, McLaurant, Diggs, Bateman, and Austin at Whiteout. Josh Jacobs in the third round. with Pacheco and Scataboo, definitely my weakness right now is running back. And I, you know, you look at that and you say, would I have been happier with a fifth round running back? Maybe. I mean, at that point, it was like the rookies, maybe Judkins, and then I could have come back to quarterback. I ended up with Joe Burrow to stack with Jamar Chase and Evan Ingram in the eighth round is my tight end. I've got Jalen Hertz at the top, Jonu Smith at my other onesie, and then at running back.
