Episode notes

Jason's golf disaster overwhelms the draft-predictions episode: a broken putter, a lost bet and a full-body rage spiral become the show's main character beat.

to the fantasy footballers podcast with your host, Andy Holloway, Jason Moore, and Mike Wright. Oh, welcome in. Let's go, let's go. I was going to say it's draft day, but this might be out early. See, you didn't want to betray the... Yeah. What, you got standards for your... Oh, well, I mean, I wasn't going over the original lyrics of it's football time. I think we all expected it to be its draft day time. Did you do that before? I'm sure there's not a good syllable situation. Yeah, we've done many things. The Fantasy Footballers podcast, Jason Moore, Mike, Wright, Andy Holloway. Welcome in one and all. We are, well, we're going to release this show a little bit early. We've got our draft day predictions episode on the show today. I haven't looked to see who won last year. I assume it was me. It was me. Pretty sure it was Jason. Was it Jason? It was me last year, but.

1:18 ↗

the year before it was me and then the year prior to that i also was it also you one so it looks one of those years we did tie mike okay i did i did i did check that i'll take you know what you had dart to the giants i did you have cam there too uh i did i did i think i got both of those guys but i need to take i need to take a break i don't need to take a moment i do need to do this well i do i do i have no idea what's happening so

1:45 ↗

look this is show one thousand nine hundred and nine yeah we've done this for over a decade and when you do something for a decade in life things happen outside of the show that you know we don't bring to the show we don't bring it to the show we what is i don't know what's happening oh i know what's happening over there what is happening things happen outside of here that we put on a happy face we come back to work and we just everything's good in life today is not one today is one of those days today is one of those days where I did I was this the remains of your potter I was not going to bring this up whole I was gonna guys I was gonna give you a chance to not talk about golf today I'm not a golf guy but usually a butter a putter longer than this does a putter for ants this guys putter is it's missing a lot listening to the podcast

2:43 ↗

What have we got about three inches worth of the shaft that deserves that of that remaining of the putter tech club deserved that and honestly the rest should go in ashes I did lose to Jeremy today but I also lost to life and oh no I have spent this whole show for the most part in silence squeezing this table just my hands right now are ready to lift it up The anger that is coursing through my body right now. I can't believe you wanted to talk about. Is this cathartic? It is, but it's like. Did you ever have to use that little golf marker you have on your hat? I pulled it off once. I'm so angry. I could. Jason didn't play well. I could eat this helmet. I could eat the helmet right now and I would feel nothing else. Oh, man. So I'll shove this in my heart. I hate golf so much. It's the worst thing of the.

3:41 ↗

Don't know, not Michael. Someone's going to get hurt. Oh, man. This is about Draft Day, Jason. It's one of my favorite shows. This show, this specific episode is like one of my favorites. I haven't heard Jason say anything since we got into the studio. So he got here way earlier. I was not, I didn't do the golf. So I'm, I'm in here. You still shot better. Yeah. Yes, you did. Mike. Yes, you did. You know that the way I hate golf so. The phrase you, you. what is it you you miss every shot you don't take 100% of the shots you don't yeah yeah not in golf no no you don't screw up a hundred percent of the shots that you don't take yes well i guess it i guess it came up al so yeah i say i didn't do the golf i was in i'm getting ready for this show and i hear jason walk in the way before everybody else way way before everybody else i drove a little fast i was very the uh the gate

4:35 ↗

of the feet was faster than normal and you fully bypassed I was not ready to talk to people see I was like oh that's that's that's tum-tong he thought you had to poop he had already pooped I wish that was a Chipotle run no that was pure unadulterated anger I will tell you I was playing in the three-pack behind Jason's three-pack when they finish and we were waiting to to hit on the final hole and i'm jason went from the green to the truck in under i mean faster than most of the 40 times that we're talking about on today's show he exited he noped out of that course i don't know i don't know if i'll ever be back there was i and for my health i think i shouldn't so you've got to learn to have fun so originally we had a hundred dollar bet on this game right

5:28 ↗

Oh, no. Oh, no. How did it get? Well, last night, last night we're talking. And I had taken a lesson with a guy that I really liked. And we were talking, Jason said, does he do group lessons? And I said, he does do like two adults at a time if needed. And so we decided to change the bet to, it's $175 for a two person lesson. We changed the bet to whoever loses pays for the lesson. And we go do a group lesson together. So it's actually cheaper. It's like 87 and. 50 for instead of a hundred dollar bet because you'd be basically buying the other person's half i got it i sent jeremy a hundred dollars today and said oh you're out you're out yeah he sent me the hundred bucks and said forget the lesson i'm out okay so we would we will get to the the draft but i'm not here i've not heard it have some fun but so jason yeah the the picking up of golf or repicking up of golf is is not happening it's but of saying in this

6:26 ↗

The course we were currently on, it was, this was very recent. Yeah, the, the course has been behind you the whole time. You just, this was like two weeks ago, you showed up, hey, I'm gonna, I'm doing this charity golf event and it went from there. Previous to that, when, how long was the gap between real golfing? 15 years. Not top shot, 15 years. Yeah. He had not golfed in since before we started this podcast. Correct. And you are aware that golf is like, it's a hard, really difficult. I am very aware. Okay. Morbidly aware. What were you expecting from yourself? I don't need to be great at golf. What I need to do is have it make sense and have my body do what I tell my body to do. That's it. But that's not what happened. We could talk. You're like brand new to the sport. You've played in 15 years? No, it's not okay. Jeremy's terrible. And Jeremy beat me because like I would, I would have a much better shot off the T. Jeremy would.

7:24 ↗

shank it do something crappy and we tie every time we were like seven holes six holes in and it's just like he's playing like crap i'm playing not good but better but we're tied everything it just doesn't matter there was a colossal meltdown you oh yeah oh yeah i think going into hole seven and we played nine i think going into seven i was up one stroke and it was just the putting game the putting game was uh well I got news for you. Yeah, I figured out your putter game. You're too short on the old. You need a handle. This is brand new, wasn't it? That is a brand new. That's a brand new putter. Very nice putter that I was so thrilled to break. You should sign this and give it to somebody. I would, I will. I'll sign it. Anyone can have it. That's my trophy. Yeah. Yeah, I mean, I'll sign it for you. Wow. Well, anyways, I didn't think we were discussing this. That was not the intro I was expected. But I did tell Al beforehand, I go if Jason, I'm not bringing it up.

8:18 ↗

But if Jason brings it up, you give me that putter. I can't believe that. I can't believe that that's the only club that got destroyed. I can't believe it. I'm surprised I didn't go to the parking lot and individually break every single club. Goodness gracious. So he's mad. How about we transition to the draft? Now can you move on? Yeah. Let's do golf lessons. Let's also do some anger management lessons. Yeah, I'm going to be talking to the therapist about this one. Halfway through, he goes, my therapist told me this was going to be good for me. Oh no. What an idiot. This is unbelievable. The meltdown has gone. I want to be clear on something as well. The meltdown began on the driving range before the round. How did I do out there, Andy? I've never seen 20 consecutive shots go worse for him. And I just kept saying, I tried to be the good friend. I was just like,

9:11 ↗

You know, just breathe, man. Next shot. Next shot. They got worse and worse. When you shoot 20 times and one of them is, I mean, bad, but not. Like, I can't even say good. Anyways, all right. All right. We're back in. We are releasing this show a day early because we wanted to get our predictions out there in the world, which we were in the middle of saying Jason's the champ of the predictions. Yeah. Four of the picks right last year. I was at three, Mike at two. When people say stick to football. Yeah. That's what they mean. Yeah, they do.

9:41 ↗

headline here before we get the into the news and the draft predictions. We're going to go through the big names at all of the fantasy relevant positions on today's episode and see what we think is going to happen. Every beat reporter has been changing their minds seven ways to Sunday because they don't really know what's going on because teams don't really want to tell you what they're thinking about doing. And sometimes they'll be right about some things and sometimes they'll be wrong, but they're all positioning for trades. Different transactions. Did you see? I think it was Shreger. Kyle, you can correct me if I was wrong. But essentially him, him talking about the number two pick where it's the Jets. And he's like, this is going to surprise everyone. We don't know because the Jets are not telling us what they're going to do. As in like the Jets always tell us what they're going to do. Yeah. Okay. That was Shrager talking about it. It was so funny of the like the pleasant surprise of, hey, they.

10:41 ↗

They're actually not telling us. Doing something they should be doing, which is not communicating their intent. Yeah. It is Ultimate Draft Week, guys. This is the biggest headline of the day. You can win a listener league spot to come play with us in the Fantasy Footballers Listener League. That is the Grand Prize. Ultimate Draft Week giveaway. We're also giving away a signed. 11:32 ↗

Go pick it up. lowest price of the season, ultimate draft kit.com by the end of the weekend. And you will be very happy you did. Yeah. If you've got the plus or if you're an Ultimate Foot Clan member, there will be a brand new thing coming out next week that I have been working on for months and months and months. I am so doggone excited about it. And I was so scared it wasn't going to be ready. It's ready. It's ready. I'm like ready like your golf game or? No, way more ready. I'm sticking to football. I'm sticking to football. I got this.

12:02 ↗

Golf is golf's for losers. He said he's been working on this for months. He's only been working on golf like three times in 20 years and thought he'd feel good about it. I hate being bad at things. I can't handle it. Then I, that's why I quit 15 years ago. It's like, hey, I can't golf. I'm out. This is why Mike and I told you verbatim, you might not want to buy new clubs the first time you play. Mike's like you can borrow my clubs and you're like two minutes later, you got a cart, you got clubs, you got clothes. I can't wait to buy them for 20 cents on the dollar. Yeah, I want your cart. Dude, dibs on the cart. All right, moving on. News and notes from around the league.

12:45 ↗

ESPN's Adam Schefter said he would watch and see the Falcons could be looking for a trade partner for Kyle Pitts, who they're open to dealing. Okay. That would put them, I think if Kyle Pitts gets traded, they are going to take one of those big time wide receivers at some point. So that would be interesting. Franchise tag on Kyle Pitts, right? He signed it though, right? Yeah. I believe he's the only one who was just like, okay. Money, please. Yeah. We have a report. I saw this yesterday. Tetero McMillan said he dropped about 10 to 15 pounds during his rookie season and got down to 205. He spent the off season working on power and weight and muscle game. This was really good news once I understood it because I saw it. Yeah, this morning when I first saw it was that basically was down 10 to 15 pounds. And I was like, that's not good. I don't want that. And then it was like, no, no, no.

13:44 ↗

last year going into his rookie season. He was focused on speed, probably just training for the combine in the 40 time or whatever. And then now he's focused on getting into that man body. That's what you want. We talk about it a lot. We want wide receivers to put on weight early in their career. That's usually better than losing weight, the opposite for running backs. But yeah, we want wide receivers to bulk. We want running backs to cut. Yep. Bucketeers. Sean Tucker, one year $3.52 million contract. He will be part of the running back room. All right. Jason and I were talking briefly yesterday. The Tampa Bay situation, we'll talk about it on today's show. Let's put it that way in terms of our running back draft predictions because that draft room, they lost Rashad White, who's now a member of the Washington commanders. And if Bucky Irving, it's just what is the... They picked up Kenneth Gainwell. Yeah. What is the confidence level for Bucky long term may determine...

14:38 ↗

what you see in the draft. Yeah, Bucky going into last year looked like, hey, this is a piece of our franchise. Bucky going into this year is like, I'm not, it doesn't seem like they are as confident. Obviously, you had the reports, the rumors of the mental issues, the injuries as an undersized fourth round back. So it doesn't feel like they have a complete rock solid group. Speaking of not quite rock solid, the Steelers quarterback room. Mike McCarthy said, Will Howard and Mason Rudolph are splitting reps in the off-season program? He said, quote, and this is a heck of a quote. I have confidence in where Aaron Rogers would be the day he would arrive. If that's his decision, I think Aaron is probably more in tune than we would realize the endless rope. They have to know. You get. You think they know? And they're just saying, hey, skip it. No, here's the thing. I'm just going to say two different things. I think they don't know. But I believe that they should know.

15:39 ↗

How are you, you can't allow this to happen. Aaron Rogers wasn't even good. Yeah. That's why I asked if he earned the right for this rope. He, Aaron Rogers, better than Mason Rudolph, probably better than Will Howard. We can say probably because we just, we haven't seen Will Howard, so you can't say 100%. But he was not, he was not the level of play that you sit back. You're like, oh, please, please, please, just come back. We'll wait. We'll wait. No, you should, they've got to do something. There's a good chance, Will Howard's the starting quarterback of the Steelers. Yeah, I mean, the Steelers brought in Carson, Paul Payton, Tailing Green. They brought these guys in for top 30 visits, so they aren't, they are aware that they are unsure of their quarterback position. And maybe Pittsburgh will be doing what the, the, their quiet quitting, as in they won't, the signals won't be as clear as everybody else, like, you know, the Jets, the Cardinals of like,

16:37 ↗

sure seems like these teams are going to play for next year as in not play this year and go after next year's quarterback market. I don't know, man. They traded for Pittman, gave him money. This is not a team. Mike McCarthy is not that kind of coach. That's the thing. And the Steelers aren't that kind of franchise. They are fine trying to win and get the playoffs. That was that was all Tom and stuff. They were 10 and 7. I think so. They were at least over 500. You have no future. right now. And let's say Rogers comes back and we win six games. Well, you have a real problem if that happens. You're super host. They'll probably win more than that. Well, Tomlin would. Well, McCarthy, we'll find out. Yeah, they were 10 and 7. All right. We'll take a break. We'll come back with our draft predictions. It's going to be exciting. Oh, man. I forgot about that. I didn't remember that whatsoever.

17:52 ↗

2000 hokey dokey here we go we'll start off with an easy one we'll start off at the quarterback position and we will barely call it a prediction but fernando mendoza we all have going to the jets nope wrong try again falcons oh no let's go raiders how about yeah yeah the raiders we know their story i i saw a pretty interesting right up yes yeah we all got a point there um It saw some pretty interesting analytics. I don't know if either of you guys saw it, just on the Raiders in general, their cap space, the dead cap coming off the book, the amount of money they spent in the off season, which, look, they didn't, when you sign like Jalen Naylor, you kind of mock that kind of a signing. You're like, oh, wow, they made big moves. They had a lot of other significant moves. Both linebackers, Tyler Lyndonbaum going to the, I mean, that is a monstrous signing. That's a big one. They traded for Max Crosby.

18:47 ↗

Right. So that was pretty big. Two firsts. Yeah, they got two firsts for Max Crosby. I mean, they did, they have a lot going right in terms of where the franchise is headed. Mendoza is going to be a key piece of that. They have Bowers. They have Gentile. It was pretty interesting. If you have a first, the number one overall pick and you draft a quarterback, I believe the number is 15 out of the last 20 teams that did that. We're above 500 within three years. And so your odds are already, I mean, that's the way you build a franchise. You just talked about Pittsburgh and maybe having to tear it down to the nubs and find somebody. I think the Raiders are on the path. And I think you're kind of lining up well with the rest of the division in a few years. It's not going to be this year. But adding Mendoza, having Lindenbaum, Gentie, Bowers, probably some other weapons in the draft. They have six picks in the first four rounds, I think, something like that.

19:45 ↗

They are well positioned. I think they're on their way. They have done, I think they've done about as good as you can. Had they been able to, you know, get the two firsts for Max Crosby, I think that's better for them long term. Sure. But, you know, the coaching hires, we like all that stuff. It's Mendoza, the truth that, I mean, I feel like it's always impossible to actually. It's your best shot at the truth in this draft. Yeah. Oh, yes, for sure. And we're all going for the Raiders there. So let's move to Ty Simpson. The only other quarterback will throw a prediction in for today. Ty Simpson has been linked very often to the Cardinals lately. He had top 30 visits with Arizona, Cleveland, and the Dolphins. He had a private workout with the Jets. Ty Simpson draft day predictions.

20:35 ↗

It's been on the fringe of the first and second round in terms of where a lot of people are estimating he'll go. I think he is a perfect candidate for a like dropping significantly just because when I look at that top of the second round, you know, I don't see very many teams that would take him outside of Arizona and the Jets. It's the Jets in Arizona in that order at the top of the second round 33 and 34 that are both rumored, both brought him in, both have desperate needs for him. The question, I think, is because of the Jets at 33, the Jets at 33 are the reason that the Cardinals are so rumored to be trading up for him, to just kind of hop over. If they were to trade with Seattle, two spots, get that fifth year option and get ahead of the Jets. That would make sense. I went back and forth here between those two teams. It does seem like it's going to be one of those two teams. Yeah, I went, why don't you guys go first? You guys both went with Arizona. I went Arizona. Chalky. I'm going to go a bonus point, though.

21:35 ↗

I think they trade up to Seattle's pick. Oh, wow. And they draft Ty Simpson. Well, like Jason just said, that would be the target. I think the Jets would be okay, taking him at 33. That's the pick I'm going with. I don't think the Cardinals get it figured out. I think maybe that's been overplayed. I'm going to go with the Jets. The crazy thing is like if the Jets don't take him, don't want him at 33, like I feel like. he would be available to trade to like trade up to 60 and you know what I mean like Miami's at 43 they'd be in contention the Jets at 44 from Dallas those would be a couple picks I'd keep my eyes on if he falls Ty Simpson can easily Malik Willis or should do her this where yeah because a little bit Pittsburgh could be in play at 53 by the way or trading up Pittsburgh is another they absolutely could it's just the

22:33 ↗

So the known top 30 visits for Simpson, Arizona, Cleveland, Miami, and then the private workout for the New York Jets. The way that he's been talked about, it feels more like the quarterback that's going to have the longer weight. All right, let's have some fun, guys. Let's move on to the running back position. Considered by many to be the best player in the draft, Jeremiah Love out of Notre Dame. draft day prediction for jeremiah love who will instantly go and change a backfield uh into a likely very dominant running back room i am going to it took me a long time i dismissed it for many many months i'm going to go with the new york football giants i think that the cardinals i know

23:24 ↗

I know. The people hate it, Andy. Here's what I think is going to happen. Oh, and I'm going to be wrong. I mean, Jason's going to be right. Remember, he gets it right. Sick. Then I'm right, too. But I think the Cardinals will trade out of three. I think it will be with a team that wants to come up and get a defensive player. If Arvel Reese is there, maybe Sunny Stiles. I don't think someone's trading up with the Cardinals for Jeremiah Love. And I don't think that Tennessee is going to pull the trigger on him at four. I think.

23:51 ↗

The Giants are not going to be able to resist him on the board at five. Best player available. They now have two top 10 picks. Their ability to take the shot on, Jeremy I love, you know, and still get a defensive player or another wide receiver is there. I'm going to go with the Giants. That one's, I don't blame you, but I think that that's impactful for one of your later predictions. I think it makes that a little more interesting. But so I'm going Titans. uh i've had him going number four i'd yeah you've been pretty maybe it's maybe it's take lock but it's i haven't seen anything to sway me off yeah it's it's weird um every mock everywhere always just has jeremiah love to the titans and it feels like one of those things that just been so copied and silent if you're the titans you're just sure you know and so i could see we are totally going to yeah exactly i could see him not being taken there he shouldn't be taken there they have

24:47 ↗

too many holes to fill teams in the top five should not be taking a running back ever but i do have him going to the titans i'm going to stick with that all right so giants titans titans for jeremiah love i have seen washington obviously in recent mock drafts as well who are there at seven i believe i feel like if he doesn't go at five he goes to washington yeah jadarian is like that would be my dream like for fantasy football my dream is that he goes to the commanders uh if i could pick the team in the in the top ten i think

25:14 ↗

I think Giants is equally as good as just the... But Cam. Yes. I'm saying if he goes... Scataboo is... I mean, you can see that working. That's what convinced me this last week is I started to think about love and Scat being a good tandem. Yes, it can work. We think of team construction. You're better off taking a different player and rolling with Scataboo and Tracy. But love would be great in New York. It's just the emotional sadness for the fantasy community. All right, it's going to get a little more wide open here. Darien Price out of Notre Dame, the running mate for Jeremiah Love. I saw that late. Was this a late pivot? Did you make a change? It was a late pivot. Originally, I had him going 32 to the Seahawks. That was, you know, at the end of the first round sneaking in there. The Seahawks desperately need a running back. But then I remembered something. John Schneider is awesome. The GM for the Seahawks. He is really, really smart.
