Fantasy Football 2017 - Week 7 Studs & Duds, Rising Stars, Mr. Cooper

He's a converted running back. We need a running back. Do you think that that's the case? And what in the world do you do with Montgomery rest of the season? Because Jones is moving up. It's tough to say because you had, when Aaron Jones had the breakout game against Dallas, you know, he played 88% of snaps. But then the very next week, it dropped to 65 because time Montgomery was back. And so this was a situation that I wasn't really comfortable starting either Montgomery or Jones in our double flex dynasty league.

I didn't play Aaron Jones because it was who knows what's going to happen with this situation. And then Aaron Jones plays 80% of the snaps as a monster game. I think it's advantageous to Jones snap counts that Aaron Rogers was injured because Montgomery and Rogers, the short passing game, some of the report that they've had over the years, that's extinguished with that injury. It's a clean slate and you're putting the best running back forward. And right now that running back is Aaron Jones. I'm going to throw two honorable mentions out there real quick.

Doug Baldwin's starting to get that second half action going. Might be a target for you. He's beyond his buy week. So if you're looking at an even swap situation with another whiteout. That has their buy yet to come. You buy a week with Doug Baldwin. And then, Mike, I can't believe you didn't go with Hunter Henry in this one. But Hunter Henry, the goose. He looks like a top. The goose is loose. Top five, six, you know, tight in here on out. He certainly does. The snaps have turned. The coaching staff finally realized, hey,

Hunter Henry's better than Antonio Gates. We got a goose hog. He was loose. That's right. That goose sounds like he. No, that was Eric Decker, actually. Oh. The whole entire Tennessee Titans. How often do you see a running back like Aaron Jones have more rushing yards than his starting quarterback has passing yards? Not, not often.

Kenny Stills is your rising star because we got to take just a short detour and the time travel express. Because last year, the final eight games of the season. So 50% of the season, he caught a touchdown in six of those games, including.

the four games, four final games where Matt Moore took over for Ryan Tannehill because Matt Moore loves Kenny Stills. This just happens. And Jay Cutler was actually having a pretty decent game. And then Matt Moore comes in and goes, hey, Kenny Stills, do you remember me? And now he's going to be the quarterback at least for next week, possibly moving forward. If Matt Moore has success, how does the team possibly go back?

I mean, he's pretty much just done what he's always done, except he is now the predominant ball carrier. This is the second week in row over 100 yards. He has three touchdowns in the last two games. He's passed his by. I think Mark Ingram is a guy that you're going to start every single week from here and out, and you're going to get two or three disappointing games and the rest. J. J. Jai or Mark Ingram rest of season.

Ooh, that's a great one. I think I have to go Mark Ingram. You're talking about a guy who usually is getting at least four receptions, not just targets. The last two games, four and five receptions. The snaps look great. Yeah, you're safe in all facets. He catches the ball. He's the goal line back. He's been rushing great. So I love marking. But what does Sean Payton do? Like what happens to his feelings when he has to watch Mark Ingram be so successful?

He just remembers that Mark Ingram is on a contract year and will be gone next year. He's like, oh, you know what? Okay, I'll get, I guess I'll let him be good this year. It's a two-part thing because you said AP's gone, but he was basically not relevant. But it's like you lost this, you know, disease behind, like his confidence level has gone up because he's not looking over his shoulder and seeing that grimace from Adrian Peterson. Those were. This week you get Cleveland. You figure you're a week removed from the limited mobility. And then you hear that Jason McCordy, the number one rated cornerback, according to Pro Football Focus, was going to miss the game. And you go out and you cannot throw a touchdown pass. You're 21 for 34. And terrible. Yeah. Yeah. Do you attribute this just to the leg? I mean, there's this. You just, this is a blip.

The radar throw it away. It was definitely, well, I think you have to see him healthy before you can. What we saw in this game was that he's still not able to run. He is not the Marcus Mario that he needs to be. One for eight. So yeah, you're right. In order to be successful in regular matchups, not just the easiest of the easy, you know, Indianapolis last week, you're going to need him to be able to run. So.

I don't think you can trust Marioita until he is healthy. You're coming out of the buy. So he goes into the buy. Then you come out with Baltimore, Cincinnati at Pittsburgh. You don't have another juicy matchup until Indianapolis four weeks from now. And this was the problem. Mario could at least perform against poor defenses. Didn't get it done in this game. Disappointing. Cam Newton, pooped in the big boy pants. What do you do with Cam Newton at this point?

This is the cam we all know. It was awful. We thought he found himself. He's lost again. You're the one to ask because you jumped in on him. He looked great a couple weeks ago. Now, to be fair, I said I would, I belly flopped into the pool because it's very painful. And sometimes you have to get immediately out of the pool. Well, that's the question. Are you staying in there for a little another week? Tampa Bay. Yeah. I love Michael Keaton. I love that matchup. So I would. And then Atlanta.

And then Miami. Cam Newton. Cam Newton. I can't quit you, buddy. All right. Running backs. If he stinks against Tampa Bay, though, I'm out. Stinks like Simeon? Yeah. Oh. Trevor Simeon and that Denver team is in big trouble. Teams have figured it out. It's called let him try to beat you. Because they stop the run. C.J. Anderson.

No, Emmanuel Sanders, which was, you know, you can make an argument that that's his actual go-to receiver. That whole team is in serious trouble. I feel like there are a lot of question marks in the running back poopers because you have C.J. Anderson, I want to know what you guys think about him. Mike Gilles. Are you cutting him now? Yep.

Frank Gore, 9 for 34 against Jacksonville, a team that's been very beatable on the ground. Yeah, they are beatable on the ground. I don't want a cold. I don't want a cold offensive piece right now. The Jaguars are just such, their passing defense and their pass rush is so good that a team like the Colts are not going to be able to establish the running game. Right. But what do you do, C.J. Anderson, Tim for 44. Man, look, I was still on C.J. Anderson. I think he is a.

Great running back. I think he is their lead dog. But it's going to be really, really difficult if teams are going to focus this much on the running game and just completely because they can because Trevor Simeon is not getting it done. And you look at their upcoming schedule for rushing Kansas City at Kansas City in Arrowhead, Philadelphia in Philly.

The New England Patriots who, you know, maybe they've figured it out. Cincinnati, that's the next month. I mean, those are not games where I expect, I mean, truly, I think that you're going to see the Broncos maybe go 0 and 4 here. And those aren't game scripts that are fitting to C.J. Anderson. So me as the resident, C.J. Anderson believer the most recently, I'm really worried about him going forward. As I'm worried as in.

Are you just going to bench him or are you still going to play him as a two? Yeah, I mean, it would depend on who else is on the roster. But I would be looking to see if there are other believers who maybe I could package trade for someone that has a better outlook. It's just, I don't know if there are many people that are going to want to buy C.J. Anderson at a good enough value to trade him right now. What do you do with Tom Montgomery? I think you hold time Montgomery because here's why. You've still got him.

dealing with, you know, the possible rib injury, and then you've got the buy week coming up, and the week after, that's where if that week you still see, and I think you brought up a great point, Andy, in the fact that the Aaron Rogers injury actually helps Aaron Jones if it's kind of this new look offense to establish a running game. But there's a chance that this was also, we're taking it a little bit easier because of the ribs. The buy week is coming up.

And if you were to trade or cut Ty Montgomery, and then he comes back after the buy and reclaims the role of starter, you're going to slap yourself. You're going to just look in the mirror. You're going to hold that hand up and just whack across your face. We had an owner in our league, spend big money on Aaron Jones in the fab, saw that Jamal Williams was coming back, dropped.

This is back. This is the original injury time. Right. I'm just saying the games that it can play with you in that backfield. Dropped Aaron Jones, picked up Jamal Williams. Obviously that hasn't panned out. I think you're probably right on the hold with Tom Montgomery. And I got to let the footclan in on the experience that was this Sunday afternoon. go back and forth every single week with Melvin Gordon, because I've, I've been very vocal in my opinions that, that I'm not convinced he's a really a great running back. Melvin Gordon's great. I think he is a talented athlete. I just don't think that he's necessarily a great running back. And it's like, you know, so a couple of weeks ago against Philly, that was, that was a victory for me. And then he has these great weeks against, uh, like,

the Giants in Oakland. Victries for me. Yeah. And then we're just, they were watching this entire Denver game together. He was the worst. He could do nothing right. No, but he could do everything wrong. I'm talking false start as a running back. Run the wrong route. Totally whiff on pass protection. He was horrifically bad. I mean, you had the, you have the announcers kind of like, and the running back did not follow the fullback there. It was.

It was highly comical. I understand Melvin Gordon's fantasy value. I totally get that. But this was one microcosm where it was just, it was so great to be me. New England, New England and then a buy week. I think he's going to benefit from the buy. He's been missing practice. It was still debatable as to whether or not he was going to be active for this game. You kind of saw some of that. Yeah, my opinion on Melvin Gordon doesn't change it all. 18 carries in a game where you hold him. Yeah. Derek Henry.

For those of you last week, I mean, I hate getting on here and talking bad about Derek Henry, but you had to temper your expectations. And I thought it was ridiculous. You know, I said the Rota World article about him running circles around to Marklemy. Right. Made no sense. Comes out against Cleveland and goes 13 for 13. To be fair to Derek Henry, there were two plays where each of them he lost five yards and it wasn't Henry's fault. To be fair to Henry, he lost five yards twice. Yes. I was saying it wasn't.
