Fantasy Football 2017 - PPR Mock Draft + Players We’re Ashamed To Love

Are you using it up? I'll use it now. We'll go Dante Moncrief and Kelvin Benjamin. Those are guys that they can flame out, but they're at the part of your roster where it's like, okay, maybe these guys don't pan out, but we've already got three other good wide receivers. If they pan out, these guys are great and they'll overtake those wide receivers. This is the point you take them. You don't take a Kelvin Benjamin, you know, as someone you have to rely on and start.

You take him as that swing for the fences. Now, I want to point something out to listeners. Mind you, this is a 10-team league. We passed and waited on quarterback. We just took Moncrief and Benjamin, and through the next 18 picks, not another quarterback went off the board. Yeah, because. So if we had taken Winston or Big Bin or Carr or Prescott or Stafford or Dalton or Rivers or any of these guys, by the way, all those names I'm totally fine with. Oh, yeah.

This is a 10-team league is like the bread and butter of the late-round quarterback. Yeah, for sure, because there's about 15 quarterbacks that I really like this year. Like I love about 15 quarterbacks. And there's 10 teams in the league. So let some get their second quarterback before I even dive in. I'm still going to love one of them. Absolutely. All right. So we took the two wide receivers, Lacey left. Peterson's gone. Blunt is gone. Like I said, it's all been wide receivers and running back since then. A bunch of rookies. P. Rhine.

Karim Hunt are gone. And then we get through Robert Kelly went in the 10th round. Willie Sneed is gone at 10th, the ninth pick of the 10th round. Of the 10th round. Okay. Other names on the board now as we have a couple more picks here. We need a quarterback. We do. We only have two bench spots and the quarterback spot before defense and kicker. Is the time to strike now? Now a lot of people see Derek Carr's name on the board here in the 11th round. They're probably going.

How is that possible? Because there are cards going in the six-round, six-quarterback off the board in so many leagues. I would still pass on him. I think I've got him outside my top 12 quarterbacks. I do as well. Matthew Stafford, I have above him. I would be just as happy, though, with Philip Rivers, Andy Dalton, those guys. Do you want to take two non-quarterbacks and use our last position pick on a quarterback? You're darn right, I do. Yeah, so do why. Jeremy Macklin on the board. Oh, man.

You can just auto-click that. For me, I think he has the potential to be that wide receiver too. I think we need more running back depth. I want to address our running back depth first. We already have six wide receivers on this roster and just David Johnson Gurley and Woodhead. We certainly need to go running back here for sure. So Terrence West is still there, but you have the question of do you want to pair him and Danny Woodhead together? At a certain value, which we're there, I don't have a problem with it. But are there other guys that have a...

you know, just as high in expectation to play. I don't think so at all. I think he's the clear-cut favorite. I mean, you can go Jonathan Stewart, but again, I think the ceiling's higher for West. Here's the list of the top running backs. Jonathan Stewart, Terrence West, Sproles, Jamal Charles, Alvin Camaro, Jeremy Hill. None of those guys have the opportunity that Terrence West has as a current starting running back. Should Danny Woodhead go down?

Look, I think you're going to be able to play both of those guys. But if one goes down, the other is going to be better. We'll take West and we'll go into the 11th round with Terrence West, Edelman, Moncrief, and Benjamin on the bench. You have to love that. Now it's a matter of convincing you that I should take Joe Williams here. It's the last bench spot. He has the highest upside to me of any of the remaining running backs. Look, Kamara, what's the biggest pie slice he could possibly receive?

maybe he's 50 receptions and very few carries yeah so joe williams to me is the flyer play right now do you want john this stewart at the bottom of your bench that you don't want to start or do you want like we talked about with moncrieff and benjamin do you want an upside opportunity i know usually i know usually when i leave a draft i want to have as many running backs as i do wide receivers i

I don't want, you know, I think the running back position because of scarcity that happens. That being said, I can't. You have to sacrifice Macklin or John Brown, though, if you went Joe Williams. That's my point. I can't imagine taking a Joe Williams, who as of right now is not a starter who will probably cut in week one if he hasn't been given the keys of the kingdom yet when we need to make a move over Jeremy Macklin, who I've got as, you know, a locked and loaded low-end wide receiver two, high-end wide receiver three. You know what? Last pick before our quarterback, I'm going to let Judge Giamatti weigh in.

Let's hear it. Judge Yamadi, where do you lean on this? I've been wondering if Jaquiz is still on the board. You haven't mentioned him, so I'm assuming he got taken. I'm sure he's still on the board. Would you take him? I would take a quiz over Joe Williams because in week one, one of them is starting and one of the isn't. See, I fundamentally disagree with both of you on that. Why would you want to take, look, you already know you're starting Todd Gurley and David Johnson week one. Sure. Week two, week three. Yeah, week two and week three where you have Woodhead and West.

My point is, if you want the opportunity to find exceptional value with your last pick, you need to draft somebody that could surprise you week one with exceptional value. If Chiquis Rogers comes out and has the best ever week one, it still doesn't matter in week four when Doug Martin gets out. But if Joe Williams comes out, Carlos Hyde is cut, all of a sudden you have a piece on your bench that you can trade for a better asset, a breakout type of candidate. Now,

I'm fine going Macklin. We can just put that to bed and just go Macklin. I was going to say those are solid points, so give me Jeremy Macklin. Just fine. All right. Now we've got to take a quarterbacking. Wouldn't you know? Only one. Nope, there goes two. All right. So Winston and Prescott went off the board. Oh, man. I was looking forward to arguing with you to grab me some Dak Prescott. Now I finally went. Yeah. Big Ben, Derek Carr, Matthew Stafford, Philip Rivers, Andy Dalton.

Stafford is easily the highest ranked for me of the quarterbacks. Yeah, I think Dalton is a spot ahead of Stafford for me, but I love Stafford. We're going to take them here and round out our quarterback position. And then we're on to defense and we're on to kicker. And I'm not even going to tell you who we take there. Just blindly click those for now in the mock section. Okay. I will say this. I do like Houston to open the year at defense if you're in your drafts and you're wanting to know.

maybe a target once a couple are gone. What did you say, Andy? Why don't you go ahead and go through the team? All right. So we've got quarterback Matthew Stafford with literally the last non-kicker or defensive spot. If you're in a 10-team league, let it be known. Wait on your quarterback. David Johnson, Todd Gurley. We've got the Baltimore backfield of Terrence West and Danny Woodhead for a PPR machine at the running back position.

Then we've got a plethora of wide receivers to plug in, play the matchups, Jarvis Landry, Michael Crabtree, Julian Edelman, Dante Moncrief, Kelvin Benjamin, Jeremy Macklin, and of course, the biggest difference maker, if he stays healthy, Rob Gronkowski. We've actually done this now a couple of times in drafted Gronk. I never, I've said this so many times, whether it's on the show or just off the show, I never draft Gronk.

and really like my team on paper. But just looking historically, if Gronk plays, your team is truly set up to win. At the tight end position over the last three years, Gronk has finished as a tight end one. I'm just talking weekly, 80% of the time. The second best, like the next closest, is Antonio Gates at 60% of the time.

This is a guy who every week is just outscoring our opponents so much at a position. The question will come. Will he stay healthy? How big an injury risk is he? I know over the last few years he's had two, you know, 15 game seasons, and he usually goes in the first round. So I like Gronk this year, but I never...

Love my team on paper when I select him. All right, we are going to post the final results of the draft. If you want to see all of the other players that went, obviously we weren't going to read every single one of them. But I'm pretty happy with the team. It's going to be a bit of a test, I think, as an owner of that franchise to make sure the right wide receivers are starting week to week. That's, you know, what pops in my head right away is, okay, how do I take a few good weeks from multiple wide receivers?

combine a couple of those guys and go get a bigger name for my roster that's already going through my head. But I'm pretty happy. See, this is a real Jason Moore type of team in the sense that, Andy, you always, your team's middle of the year in our league of record is always, it's almost like it was an auction where you went the studs and duds approach.

You combo trade and you get like those super elite players and then you fill in the rest with, you know, whatever off of waivers. It's always worked for you. For me, I've always had the depth. I want a bench with quality players and make those start sit decisions and just beat people with that as the weeks go on. So I like the team. I think we can. I just want you to remember this roster when Joe Williams goes off for 350 yards week one. I won't.

Some of your off-season decision-making. You know, look, we tell you to mock draft. We're like, hey, go to fantasy draft wizard.com and mock draft. It helps you. But let's be honest. Mock drafts, you're going against a computer that maybe Martavis Bryant News comes out and he's still being drafted high like we saw today. When you're on a best ball league where you're putting, you know, three bucks, five bucks, ten bucks into a draft and there's, you know, a prize on the line. The other people playing, they're trying to do their best.

You're playing against real people who are in the know, and if you want to work on your craft and get better, not only is it a blast. I've played in over 200 best ball leagues so far this year on play draft, and I've really, really enjoyed them. But it makes you better. It makes you better at, you know, knowing ADP, knowing the rounds that guys are going, constructing different types of rosters. But, of course, there is a difference with how you build them.

Because like I said earlier, you don't win championships at your draft? You do here because you're not making any roster decisions. All right. So what's today's tip for best ball players who are playing over at play draft? Yeah. If you haven't heard this tip before, it's an extremely important tip. Don't draft your handcuffs ever. Here's what you need to do in a best ball draft. You need to win the league. Coming in, you know, sixth place doesn't do anything good.

You know, you're not trying to make playoffs. And you know that from experience. Good one, Andy. You really zinged me. You want to win. Oh, you stay out of this. He liked it as well. All right. That means if your main guy goes down, David Johnson, right? Maybe you want to think, okay, I've got David Johnson. I need to handcuff him. I need to get, you know, Chris Johnson. Look, if David Johnson goes down and he was your first pick, chances are you're not winning that league.

Like, that's just the reality. You know, your team is kind of, maybe you'll still have a good roster and you'll come in second or third, you know, get your money back or something, but you're not winning the league. So what you want to do is draft other people's handcuffs. You want to draft Kevin Coleman when you don't get Devant Freeman. That way, if DeVant Freeman goes down, your team just gets stronger and you're pushed over the top to a championship, you know, league winning roster versus...

mitigating risk and ending up just a little bit better off, but worse? Yeah, a little bit saved, but not really. Right. So that is today's best ball tip.
