Some won't wash their lucky mustard-stained jersey until the season's over. Some insist they can't sit down on third downs and some pick their favorite team because, I don't know, just like football fandom.
Nobody's life is exactly the same. And that's why State Farm gets to know you, not as a policy number, but as an actual person. So they can help personalize a coverage plan that's just for you. Whether it's game day or just another Tuesday, State Farm has you covered. The Fantasy Footballers podcast with your host, Andy Holloway, Jason Moore, and Mike Wright. Welcome in. What?
That was weird. I won't make comments. Welcome into the show. Tuesday, January 28th. I couldn't hold it back. I don't know. I didn't feel like myself today. You don't look like yourself. Not anymore. You're a sham. No, I know. Failure. I know. And welcome into the show. We're recording the Tuesday, January 28th show. It's on Monday.
And we've got the quarterback truth episode. And I know there are some fire stats that we're going to bring up on this episode. We're going to break down the truth of the fantasy quarterback position. This is always my favorite of the truth episodes in part because we get to talk about quarterback streaming and quarterback strategy and what we're doing with the position heading into next year and kind of, I don't know.
unearthing some of the truths about the position, but also like getting rid of some of the myths about having to have a number one MVP type of quarterback. So we'll talk about that today on the show. We'll talk about quarterback truth on the Thursday show as well. Is that right, Brooks? Yes, sir. But we are, that'll be the majority of the show, but we are fresh off of yesterday. And so we won't stay here a long time. What happened, Kobe Bryant, his daughter, the tragic accident in California.
And, you know, Mike and I, we got together playing pickleball this morning with Al Borland. Yeah, that's right, pickleball. You heard me. Yeah. And we were both saying just how kind of shell-shocked we were yesterday. Obviously, you know, I was trying to figure out kind of why it hit so hard. You know, we're not like in L.A. We're not L.A. We're not Laker fans.
We grew up as sons fans. So, you know, Kobe did terrible things to us. For 20 years, right? But I started to think about this. And I had a hard time all day yesterday, even going into going to sleep. And I'm like, I was 12 years old when Kobe Bryant was drafted. He retired when I was 32. I'm 35 now. So, and I've been an NBA fan my whole life. So this was the superstar. This was the icon that was there for the pretty much duration of my, like, life. And.
It's just so jarring and so strange when somebody on that level is gone before their time, or so it seems. Yeah, yeah, it's rough. And when you factor in who was in the helicopter, the other kids, his daughter, their parents, it was so tragic. And we're all fathers. We're all fathers of three. We all have a daughter. My, like, the age that, you know, Kobe and Gigi was, that's me and my daughter, Jersey will be the identical age. So it's like the same gap.
So it's emotional, man. This, you know, it sucks. It's a hard time. You know, sports are, sports are for entertainment, but you get invested in the lives and the stories of the people, well, beyond sports. And, you know, that's. You definitely have kind of a, I know, it's one way for the fan, but it is a relationship with the player that you've had over time.
And so it was definitely a jarring, sad day and continues to be, obviously, thoughts and prayers with his family, the family of all those involved. And so I don't know. I couldn't help but talk about it to start the show here a day later. We do have the Super Bowl coming up this week. By the way, thanks to everybody supporting the podcast, Apple podcast, subscribing, reviewing. You can obviously listen on Spotify, ad free on sit your premium.
and the website's the fantasy footballers.com. But we got a, we have a Super Bowl. I was in the mall yesterday. I'm walking through these sports stores and they just got it all laid out. All the Chiefs gear, all the Garoppolo gear, all the Mahomes gear. Wait, wait, it's all the Kansas City gear and all the Garoppelow gear? No, like there's no. 49er gear. Okay. I thought about getting a Super Bowl shirt. I thought about shooting my shot for this back wall of our studio. Like we always replaced this helmet. Just putting Kansas City up. With the defending champ.
But Andy would have put the 49ers up. Based on my bracket, yes. How dare you? How dare you? No, I would have bought the chiefs. Thank you. Because I'm a cardinal fan, so I can't root for you 49ers. Here's what I know about everybody going into the Super Bowl. You have 49ers fans and everybody else. Like if you're, you know what I mean? Like everybody's rooting for Kansas City. This is really one of those like.
Do you want high scoring, fun, analytics-driven awesomeness, or do you want old school run the ball, play good defense? Oh, heck yeah. That's how it feels. And I'm excited about that narrative. I like it. I think you're right. I think you're right that it's 49ers fans versus the world. Who is Joe Montana? But I don't, I don't think you're right with the Kyle Shanahan offense. That dude is a, I mean, he was just in the Super Bowl. I mean.
They have odds on him whether he'd blow another 28 to 3 lead. There are Vegas odds on whether he'd blow another 28 to 3 lead. I'm going to say not good. Yeah. I'll say he won't do that. But I mean, that's impressive. He was just there as the offensive coordinator. So I, you know. And I'm not, I'm not saying that the 49ers aren't well coached or analytics driven. I'm saying like the Twitter crowd of the perception of analytics. It's like you got to pass the ball in today's NFL. And this is like, do you? Let's find out.
Jimmy Garoppolo's six completions in the conference championship game. That's not going to win in the Super Bowl. Not against Mahomes. No. All right. One of the big highlights I want to bring up here before we kick things off is Super Bowl Sunday means two things. One, incredible game we get to watch. Number two, that's when the pre-order of the 2020 ultimate draft kit. Yeah, yeah. Let's kick up the 2020 season. Mike will only use that voice for these promos. I promise you.
Wait, what's wrong with that voice? No, it's small doses, is all I'm saying. Lowest possible price on the ultimate draft get this Sunday. If you pre- Oh! If you pre-order before March 1st. So when it goes on sale, pre-order on Sunday through March 1st, you get the lowest possible priced. You get $5 gift card to shopballers.com. You get $10 at Fantasychamps.com. You get early access to dynasty and rookie rankings. Oh.
and you get entered with a chance to win the Ultimate Fantasy Footballers Prize Pack, which includes a listener league spot. It's the first one of 2020. If you want that first spot after Captain Sink, he did win. Yes. So he's back after that second spot. Yeah. Well, the first new spot. Yeah. So if you win that prize pack, you get the listener league spot. You get an invitation to come on a... You could win the listener league spot. You don't just get one.
You can win it. Thank you. Yes. You are entered for a chance to win the price back on top of those other perks. So anyway, UltimateDraftKid.com, Super Bowl Sunday. You'll be able to check that out. That's our baby. The UDK is our baby. We've had a lot of babies. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, we've been doing this a little while, Mike. One baby, though. Just keeps getting reborn? It's growing older. It's getting older. Yeah, it's more of a, it's not a toddler anymore.
It's in kindergarten. I was going to say it's a tweener. Jason, you had an interesting Super Bowl stat you wanted to share. Yes, since we're talking about the Super Bowl, the defense and running versus the awesome offense of Pat Mahomes of the Chiefs. So James Palmer on Twitter tweeted this out. So in the last 15 seasons, there have been seven teams that have reached the Super Bowl that had 55 or more. Oh, sacks.
And you got the 2005 Steelers, the 2007 Giants, the 2008 Steelers, the 2010 Packers, 11 Giants, 2015 Broncos, all won the Super Bowl. And you have the 2019 49ers. So far, it's 100%. And so facto. Have you looked back beyond the 15 years? Is that?
Nope. No, you have. So I wonder if this is. It's probably very selective. It's at least a streak, a streak of the last six teams that have had 55 or more sacks winning the Super Bowl. The 49ers, look, I think the game's going to be great. I think it's going to be a close game. Both of these teams, I'm just excited to watch the game. I promise it will be so much better than last year.
That's a guarantee from me to you. Unless you're a specific fan of one of these two teams. And you know you can find them at Jason FFL on Twitter if it goes wrong. That's right. Buy or sell presented by pristine auction. All right. We've got three buy or sell questions. We're going to run through real quick. Super Bowl edition presented by pristine auction. Patrick Mahomes, 300 passing yards in the Super Bowl. Buy or sell. So his last two playoff games.
294 and 321. The 49ers defense only gave up more than 275 passing yards three times during the season. They held opposing quarterbacks under 200 passing yards nine times. Impressive. So 300 passing yards for Patrick Mahomes in the Super Bowl. I'm going to sell it. I think he wins by being clutch Mahomes, not necessarily by being...
overwhelm you Mahomes passing yards wise. I'm going to take the... I'm buying. I'm buying. I will buy Patrick Mahomes. There is a reason that one person in the world calls him Showtime. That person called him Showtime over and over and over. Are you using Booger in your argument? Is that what you're doing? I am. Okay. Look, I think Mahomes is going to light up the Super Bowl. I think he's going to be great.
Yeah, I totally agree with you. I mean, but he lit up Tennessee, didn't get to 300 yards. This is a really tough line. $2.94. Look, I get it. It's an actual under, but that seems more in the favor of 300 yards. It is a really good line, but I'm going to buy. I'm going to say he reaches 300 passing yards, even against the great 49ers. He's made for this stage.
This is funny now. We're going Jimmy Garapolo 200 passing yards. You can do it, Jimmy. Past two games he combined for 208 passing yards on 27 attempts. He had 131 yards against Minnesota, 77 against Green Bay. Do I believe that he will pass 200? I will buy it. I believe it will be necessary for them to stay competitive in this game. I will buy 201. That's about where I have them. You're buying Jimmy somewhat close then to Mahomes.
I mean, I guess it's a 100-yard gap. It looks like when you're saying you sell Mahomes at 300. Yeah. In your head, what are you projecting? Look, the reason. 250, sure, 250, 270, whatever, under 300. All right. But the thing is, is the reason I love San Francisco to start this entire playoffs run is because they are a machine-like team with a great defense. I think Jimmy G. is going to need to do more than 131 against Minnesota or 77 versus Green Bay when facing Patrick Mahomes. So I'll take it.
But can he against Kansas City? I think he can. What we don't talk about is San Francisco's defense is highlighted. Kansas City's defense. Stepping up. They turned into an absolute juggernaut over the second half of the season. So I believe that Jimmy Groplo can and will do it this week. You know, in those games where he was forced to throw the ball more, he was able to go back to that New Orleans Saints game, great defense. He was great because they needed him to do it.
208 combined passing yards. That's what they hope they'll be able to do, you know, have another, have a good 88 yards this game. That's what the Niners want Garoppolo to have. He's going to have to do more. I think he's going to be able to do it. All right. George Kittle, last one here. Does Mike get to weigh in? No, apparently not. Oh, I'm sorry. I'm so excited about this next question. Mike, are you buying or selling? I will buy.
