The TRUTH: Top Tier Fantasy QBs in 2019 + Super Bowl Buy/Sell - Fantasy Football Podcast

Yeah. Don't ever say that again. There's a one-time-only situation. Scrub that from the Internet. That's gross. All right. Number four, Deshaun Watson. Deshaun Watson finished at number four at the position. Consistency rank was number seven. All right. 60% good games, 47% great. So you got a lot of great out of Deshaun Watson. I mean, week one, he was a third overall. Week three, fifth overall. Back-to-back week one weeks.

Weeks 5 and 6. I got another number two and number one finish. So that's, I'm kind of, I really like this season for Deshaun Watson. It's really unfortunate he had those, the two games towards the end of the year, especially championship week against Tampa Bay. If you remember, that was the game where James was pleading. He was pleading with the Houston Texans to score a lot of points because he just kept giving him the ball. But.

They weren't able to get anything done. So let me ask you guys this, because, you know, we're looking at the quarterback position as a whole. We talked about 9 of 10, finishing below where they were drafted. Are you, so Deshaun Watson finished at 4, had week-winning weeks. He was drafted 43 overall last year. He was the quarterback 2 off the board behind Mahomes.

Are you happy? No, I don't think you're happy. You're not happy. I don't think you're happy. 43 overall, you're giving up a really good running back or wide receiver piece. And you still, even though you got the weak winning performances, you know, 27% bust rate is not that much better than the aforementioned Russell Wilson. He had several games that really hurt you. If you look at the first seven weeks of the season, three of those first seven weeks were he was in a top 15 quarterback.

Now, the thing that evens him out. Probably won you the other four weeks. I was going to say the thing that evens him out is how high his ceiling is. And I still like Deshaun Watson. I think he will fall a little bit next year in the draft, not drastically at all, but be a slightly better value now that other guys are coming up like Lamar Jackson, who will obviously probably be the number one. He'll be the number one guy. So, you know, maybe Deshaun Watson falls to the quarterback three. But if he can get a little bit lower, I still like his upside. I feel like.

He's got to be the closest that we get on high draft capital quarterbacks to being content with the pick. When you were drafted at QB2, you spend the 43rd pick, you're not paying up for Mahomes, and you still get a QB4 finish. I'm not saying you're wrong. I'm just saying that's as close as you're going to get to be an okay. Yeah, I mean, I guess when I say, I don't think you're going to look back and say, I regret this pick.

People that picked Deshawn Watson were happy with him. I just still don't think it was a actually good. Yeah, you don't spend the number two pick for the seventh most consistent guy. Exactly. And he's got to be QB3 off of 80P next year, right? Yeah, probably. Behind only Lamar and Mahomes. I guess I wonder about Russ, but he'll probably go ahead of Russell Wilson. Who's that? Russell. Russell? All right, coming in at where are we at?

Number five? Oh, goodness. Oh, goodness gracious. James Winston. James Winston was number five overall. Consistency rank of 14. This is why Brouserians might feel tempted to move on. 626 pass attempts. 5100 yards. Well, of course, 626 attempts. 33 touchdowns, 30 interceptions. It's rare when I have to make sure I know which one's which.

in the show, Doc, because the numbers are like that. You know what's interesting? I was studying up on Winston. So this year, this was the 12th time in history, an NFL history, that a quarterback has passed 5,000 passing yards in a single season. That was James this year. This was also the 12th time in history that a quarterback has thrown 30 or more interceptions. That was also James. Yeah, I mean, this was a player that you could.

You could always rely on the fact that he was going to get the opportunity to throw the football, which is something that we projected well before the season. When you have Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, J. Howard, and Bruce Ariens. Now, Mike brought up, we were talking to lunch today. He's like, okay, just remember first year. Carson Palmer in the system with Ariens, I think it was 18 interceptions. You know, it was a rough year for Carson Palmer in Arizona. But Palmer was not a guy known for slinging it.

irresponsibly around the field. It was 22. 22. So, yeah, that's a, I mean, that was a bad year. It wasn't too bad. What do you have? Probably about 25 touchdowns, though. I mean, 24 touchdowns, but I'm saying the years before that, 14, 16, 20. So, you know, Palmer was. He fumbled 12 times Winston did. Yes. Five lost. Honestly, I think the fumbles are.

as as big of a deal as the 30 interceptions. You can't throw 30 interceptions, but the fumbles were just ridiculous. I saw your mind, you wanted to say we're a bigger deal, and then you realized he threw 30, horrific. I mean, so many of his interceptions were, what are you doing? By the way, we didn't bring it up because we were moving past Lamar, but if you remember coming into the year, Lamar had seven fumbles, I think lost on seven games. He only fumbled twice as you. Two fumbles lost. Fixed it. Yeah.

That is one thing that can 100% be fixed. Fumbles lost is usually not a very sticky stat. There are a few players, Kurt Cousins, who, you know, or Kurt Warner. If you're a quarterback that starts with the letter K, you're going to fumble everywhere. Kurt Peterson? No, no, that was Adrian. I'm sorry. And Andy then to.

I was curious about passing attempts. We were like, 626 attempts. Of course he hit 5,000, but Jared Goff also had 626 attempts. Matt Ryan had 616. Tom Brady had 613. So to me, if I'm Tampa Bay, I'm bringing James back. I'm going to franchise them. I am not going to give him a long-term contract yet because 5,000 yards doesn't just happen.

It's a pretty big deal. But 30 freaking interceptions, man. That's hard to do. Yeah, I mean, he's got great weapons, speaking both of Winston and Ariens in Tampa Bay. We know they average depth of target. The way he drives the ball down field lends itself to big fantasy output. So if he's back in Tampa, there's really no reason you should, you know, be too blinded by the turnovers.

because he could provide you an opportunity. I mean, late in the draft. Yeah, I mean, James is a guy for fantasy purposes. I'm always going to be interested in. He's not the most consistent guy. And when he bombs, he can, I mean, he can go out there in his first four passes or intercepts as he's benched. He can ruin a week for sure. He's not the most consistent. But the truth about James is that he is a guy that you can often find on waivers that can go out and put up a,

top five performance week 12 top five week 14 top five week 15 top five week four top five week three top five he can go out and win you weeks doesn't cost any of the capital he helped us beat lamar in the expert division of league one so you know it's it's like uh it's like you're going into a fight and you've got the ability to just make a real cheap molotov cocktail that's going to be a good weapon a lot of times unless it goes off in your face sometimes you drop it on the ground sometimes accidents happen

And so that's, he's a Molotov cocktail. He's a Mollosov cocktail. It's not bad. It's not the most precise weapon. No. But if you get it where it needs to be. Oh, fire. Very effective. All right. We're moving on. Number six. Oh, excellent. Josh Allen. Hey, Josh. I take it personally all the success that Josh Allen has in the NFL. Like I'm rooting for him to have success. I loved him coming out of college. Number six and finish.

Number four in consistency. What? That's right, Mike. The fourth most consistent quarterback. He only busted twice. And so when you look at the consistency score, he was extraordinarily consistent. But what he was lacking, like quarterback 12? 73% good games, my friend. 73% good games, but the problem is 13% great games. He was not a weak winner. He's not the type of fantasy asset that I wanted.

most weeks. I would rather roll with a guy like James who was less consistent, but his ceiling was so much higher. I mean, you just didn't see outside of week 11, you didn't see Josh Allen have. I feel like he's the best quarterback for Christian McCaffrey owners on the earth. Sure. He's just not going to ruin your week. You know, going forward, he's got a rushing baseline. A lot of times those rushing.

quarterbacks have a really high floor. Their consistency comes a little bit easier because in games where they can't throw the ball, they can make it up with their legs. That was Josh Allen. But this is just, it's a team that is not going to score a lot of points. They've got a good defense and they don't want to be one of those I outscore you teams with McDermott. So I, you know, I think it's more of the same next year.

I don't think we're waiting for him to level up and be good enough for them to score more points. I don't think that's what the bills want. This is a team that I could see A.J. Green landing on pretty easily as well. I think they'll try to go get a bigger-bodied receiver weapon. You know, we had our, what, blinking you missed at Antonio Brown's, a Buffalo bill last year for a split second. You know, John Brown was very much this same story at the wide receiver position where he just never really gave you big weeks, but he was just hanging around that.

I'm a wide receiver 15. I'm a wide receiver 14. I'm not hurting you, but I'm not. And it was kind of surprising because Alan ended last season with some monster games. Because he was running. Because he was running so much. His rushing yards drop from 52 a game down to 31. And 31 rushing yards a game. That's nice. I mean, that's a good little extra step in the fantasy score. But that's not enough to really make a difference. Yeah. And now you have a situation with, you know, he made.

progress as a passer, nine interceptions. You know, you talk about discipline at the position, nine interceptions, four fumbles lost, ran for more than 500 yards at the quarterback position, limited weapons on offense. You know, if it's Devin Singletary, John Brown and company, they bring somebody else in, I am, I would expect more of the same from Josh Allen. I think Jason's right about that. I think Allen's a top 10 quarterback next year. And he was drafted at quarterback 21.

Yeah, he might be, but, you know, this season reminds me of several years in a row of Philip Rivers, where because he was so consistently met, he finished high because he didn't really bust, but he didn't win you fantasy weeks. You look at the first, you know, the first nine weeks of the season. The first nine weeks of the season, he was the quarterback on points per game, quarterback 11. That sounds great. Except he was only a quarterback one.

twice in those nine weeks. That's not going to win you weeks. That's not how you get to the playoffs and how you get to a championship game. I want a higher ceiling than just a consistently middle of the pack fantasy finish. He was consistent at it, but I don't want my quarterback to finish outside the top 12 any given week. And the majority of the time he did. I just like that he's young. I like that he made progress as a pastor and I like that there's opportunity for weapons there.

Do you guys agree with me? Is that a destination? You could see AJ Green landing it? I think they will add somebody, whether they take a shot for Green or they draft someone in the top three rounds. Yeah, I think they'll draft a really high prospect. All right, I'm going to put a pin in it at the quarterback position. We'll come back on Thursday.
