Fantasy Football Podcast 2017 - Early PPR Mock Draft

It's not a fear. It's a Drew Brees. You like Drew Brees more than Alex Smith, do you? Just a little bit. You have 117 targets leaving in Brandon Cooks. And yes, you have Ted Ginn coming in. But Ted Ginn's career high in targets was 97. And so maybe he gets 100 targets, but that still leaves about 20 targets left. And I think Willie Sneed will.

Like you alluded to, I think he will have 120 plus targets. His 16-game pace was already for 111 targets. So I love Willie Steed. I do love Willie Sneed. And that's a good pick right there. Theoretic and Sneed on the bench for us coming around to the back of the ninth round. Eric Decker, Jordan Matthews, Randall Cobb on the board, Paul Perkins, Doug Martin, Duke Johnson. Those are the names that are jumping kind of off for me, Kareem Hunt there.

Our Tavis Bryant is still on the board. And we just lost Corey Coleman right before us, Kenneth Dixon. And Deshawn Jackson and Tyree Kiel win at the top of the ninth round. I think those are great picks for whoever ended up with Tyree Kiel and Deshaun Jackson. Whoever got Frank Gore just got the running back 12. I was actually going to bring that up when we took Theo Riddick and say, let's get another wide receiver because I think we can get the running back 12 in the next round. You're probably right about that. This is why you mock draft.

You get the hindsight perspective of saying, oh, wow, you know, Frank Gore's sitting around. Nobody wants him. I'll take him. You know, maybe later we can get Marlon Mackackackackackack. All right, so who's making this pick here? I would personally, I'm going with Doug Martin if it's me. Oh, then I'm making the pick. All right, go for it. So you're down on Martin, too. Now, you weren't here. I have Doug Martin ranked very highly despite missing three games. I think he's...

He's the guy in a great offense with a bunch of great passing weapons. We've seen it before from him. He's a 1,400-yard guy twice in his career. You're talking ninth round upside as your fourth running back. I don't think it gets better than that. Don't give me no Matt Forte action here. Give me Doug Martin personally. We've got time to wait on him. But you can make the pick. That's fine. No, no, no. Here's what I'm going to do. I'm going to let you make Doug Martin the pick because at this point in the draft. Now I'm an illustration.

A cautionary tale. This is your brain on Doug Martin. Watch what happens when you become Andy Hollywood. Let's see what happens to him right here. The pick that I was eyeballing. Unbuckle your seatbelt. The pick that I was eyeballing here was the pick that went one spot before us in Corey Coleman. Because what I want at this point, we kind of got a roster built out. Is a brown. Is not necessarily a brown, but does this person have the potential to be a superstar?

Doug Martin, we know, has done that. Oh, okay. Yes. I thought you were, I got you. No. Yeah, that's what I want to. You want that potential. Corey Coleman, you know, has that potential, that draft pedigree and the opportunity this year. I'm not projecting him to take that, but I want a guy that can do that. And so I'll let you take Doug Martin because he does fit that bill. You are correct that Martavis Bryant is still on the board. If you're talking about guys who could be incredible. Yeah. Yeah, or.

Doug Martin is accidentally being drafted. I'm so sorry, I took him. Here's the other thing to realize when you talk about that potential. That doesn't always mean that you're angling for this guy to take over a spot in your starting lineup. It also means that you're angling for amazing trade capital at some point during this year, where all of a sudden you're knee deep in running backs or wide receivers and you can fill a need on your roster. You know, there are people out there right now probably saying, oh my gosh, how do you not draft a quarterback? You have three bench spots.

Kirk Cousins Still on the board, Marcus Marriota, Philip Rivers, Andy Dalton. Quarterback's going to be our last pick in this draft. I can tell you that right now. Well, third to last with kicker and defense behind that. We need to move it along here. Theoretic, Willie Sneed, Doug Martin on the bench. Mike, I'll let you fix things for our roster if you want. Now, Martavis Bryant.

He did go. He went with the first pick of the 10th round. Oh, what? Decker, John Brown. John Brown is, I love John Brown. But I wouldn't necessarily want to pair him with Larry Fitzgerald. And then Jordan Matthews, your guy, Jordan Matthews, 10-04. Mike makes the pick. You got Randall Cobb, Richard Matthews, Adam Thielen, Sterling Shepard, Mike Williams, rookie out of Los Angeles. Love that opportunity here. The unknown of Kevin White? Yeah. So got Matt Forte on the board. Yeah, I mean, I...

I'm pretty sure who would be my pick here. All right. Well, you can weigh in. My pick would be Randall Cobb. Because even though people are disappointed because of recency, he's really, I mean, he missed a couple games last year. He was on pace for 80 catches. He's got Aaron Rogers. He catches touchdowns. I think he has the potential. We've seen him be a wide receiver. He was not healthy. Yeah, he was not healthy. And he's an 80 catch potential guy. I have him around 78, 80 catches. And also for reference, we have.

two bench spots. I don't know if you had said that. We had five total, so two left. We have two left to fill. Do you jump on cousins here? Do you want the stack with Jordan Reed and James and Crowder? You're sitting here and you're deciding between a fourth or fifth wide receiver, right? I like having a stack in general, but I don't want like that double stack, you know? For me, it's, I like the stack. It's fun to have. I do not force it. But.

I'm trying to pull it up. Kirk Cousins is my seventh quarterback. You have an opportunity in the middle of the 10th round. I would probably draft him here since the remaining tiers of these flyers are all very similar to me, and I don't have a standout guy. I see a lot of wide receivers I like that are going to roll back to me.

So are you all right with that, Jason? No, I am fine with that. I like Kirk Cousins. I believe I have Philip Rivers higher than him, so I would not have gone quarterback here. Now here's something interesting. We took Cousins, not another quarterback went all the way through the next two rounds. You had Jeremy Hill, Richard Matthews, Rex Burkhead finally went. Randall Cobb. I was just throw out. Rex Burkhead was actually in consideration for me just because at this point in the draft, you're going on a flyer. And while it is clearly assumed by.

uh by the community by other fantasy experts that mike gillisly is in fact the guy who will get that le garret blunt touchdown role that's not solidified and it's not the only thing that matters necessarily in new england so it to have uh the the upside of rex burkett at that point i was considering him uh before the cousins by jason uh

I want a sleeper pick from you. We've got two bench spots left before our kicker in defense, which we will not discuss at length. So I want to name from you a guy that you really want to put on your team. I'll give you two names and let you pick between them because they're opposites. Based on roster, this is a good thing for listeners to hear. To me, I think Mike Wallace is a great value. He's a wide receiver two last year. Steve Smith is gone. Kumar Aiken is gone. And I heard a stat. I forget what it was, but it was like.

Over the last eight years or something, Mike Wallace has been a top 30. Yeah. It was Mike Clay was talking about it. Yeah. And so I like him if we need consistency. But if you want that huge blow-up, you know, ceiling potential, then I would go someone like a Kevin White. Okay. Yeah. I mean, I know, I get it. But with, if I was, if I had this pick. So that's where you look at the roster and you go, well, which one do we need? Do we need the high potential? Or do we need the.

No, I think I would take the depth and the guarantee in Mike Wallace here. With Doug Martin, you have him on your bench and suspended for three weeks. You're waiting. For me, it's Mike Wallace. Are you cool with that pick? Do you take him? Do you like Mike Wallace or do you like Kenny Brittmore? I like Mike Wallace much more than Kenny Britt. And trust me, I dove deep on the Browns today. You spent most of the past week on the Browns. That's why you were out. My other consideration, we took the pick. We took Mike Wallace. My other consideration was the heart ring.

Cole Beasley, who is just a PPR. PPR machine. All right. Last pick of the draft, Mike. It's all yours. You can lay some of these guys out there. You know, Matt Jones, obviously, is the pick. No. Wayne Galman in New York, Joe Williams out of San Francisco. Here's the one caveat I will give listeners, and this will help you in your drafts. I love Joe Williams. I love a lot of these flyer guys. And I know that if I take any of, if I took Joe Williams with the last pick,

I might not get to keep him on my roster. He's your first cut. If a player has to, yeah, because that first week with the waiver wire, it's tough. It's why we don't draft handcuffs that often in the draft. It's tough. You need that week one, you know, after week one, you end up having to cut guys, and the guys you're always going to cut are the guys that are still behind that situation. Yeah, and I'd like to draft somebody that could.

come out week one. Come out week one and dominate and then go, oh, okay, I have an asset here. For me, I don't think Joe Williams is a week one dominator the way that, I don't know, Marvin Jones or, you know, Kenny Stills or somebody could come out and give you that, even if it's a temporary trade value, a flash in the pan. You could take Rashad Perryman, and you could say trade whichever Raven doesn't do well. See, I was actually looking at another Raven. I was going to draft the starting running back.

Oh, is he still sitting there? Terrence West is still available. That's who I would go for. Because I want my, even though it's a PPR, I still like to have my running backs who have. This is a Mike Wright philosophy. I like my bench to have more running backs, especially when we have one who's sitting there for a just three game suspension, hopefully gaining value as you're watching those first three weeks. That's going to be stressful for the people who watch.

or who draft Doug Martin is watching the team. How does Chuck Quiz do? Do they throw out Sticky McNichols? Does he perform at all? Paring Doug Martin with Terrence West is really, really nice for our team as well because you've got a guy who, you know, it's the first three games are suspended for Kenneth Dixon. I think Dixon is four. Yes. Four for Dixon. But yeah, that's actually funny. Terrence West could have great value for the first four weeks. Martin could have great value beyond those first three weeks.

It's just a thing of beauty, guys. A thing of beauty. All right. Kirk Cousins, the quarterback, J. Ajai, Christian McCaffrey, Theoretic, Doug Martin, and Terrence West at the running back position, A.J. Green, Larry Fitzgerald, Willie, Willie, Willie, Willie, Willie, Willie, a kicker in a defense. When we were through the first four rounds there, I hope, at the tight end position. And then I grabbed the Cardinals D and Dan Bailey because the things said I had to take one. We started a defense. When we were through the first four rounds there, I was.

I felt a little queasy, but I really am happy at this point. I would. It's shaped up. Yeah, I would be very happy with this team. All right, that is it for our PPR. You don't panic. You don't panic.
