Fantasy Football Podcast 2017 - Early PPR Mock Draft

I actually, I, you know, whatever. I don't like some of the comments I've seen him make. So I don't want to like JJ. I didn't want to buy into him last year. I didn't want to put him as high as I have him in my rankings, but he belongs there. And the devil's advocate to your argument about the, oh, my gosh, all this yardage came in these games. One, it shows that he's capable of doing something almost nobody else in the NFL can do. Yes. Two, we heard this story.

It was called Devonta Freeman. That's exactly what I think about all the time. And you can bend it however you want to bend it. That's the reality. And everybody, when we get into the draft like this, you make a decision, what do you believe? Do you believe that this guy, you know, is going to drop off the map after having three games like that or not? And so for me, I buy in. That's the decision I made when I started ranking guys. I was going to give you my actual projection. Yeah, my half point projection.

12 actually. So Jason has them higher than I do. Is that right? Full PPR? Let me see here. Full PPR, I can tell you. Right inside that top 10 range. Yeah, I had him higher earlier, but I think he's the right pick here. I think he has the potential to, less potential to decrease than Jordan Howard does. I agree. So we'll take the shot. I think if I was to have made that pick, I might have gone wide receiver there and just passed on those running backs. Yeah. Okay.

Well, we'll see what it's like splitting the difference here and one wide receiver and one running back in the second round. Michael Thomas, Jordan Howard, Amari Cooper, Brandon Cooks, Doug Baldwin, Mike Gillisley goes at the back of the second round and a PPR mock draft. It's going to happen. I mean, we have no idea what to do with Gillisley. I have him currently as my running back 14 in PPR. The upside is just, we've seen the upside of. Is the 18 touchdowns flashing across?

Yeah, your vision. And it's not just the 18 touchdowns. It's LaGarriot Blunt's 18 touchdowns. And then a guy who was one of the most efficient running backs, I believe it was second in yards after contact behind only J. Ajai. He was fantastic last year. There's a pretty strong point to be made when you say, even LaGarrett Blunt had 18 touchdowns. Because I don't think anybody... I think he's... Nobody watches Legerat Blunt, though, and can make the kind of...

comments you can make about Mike Gillisley and watching him break into the second level. Garrett Blunt scored 18 times and they were probably off from the 8 inch line for the majority of them. They certainly are. Gillisly can break a big run. Yeah, we have a great what's on. That being said, it's too early. Too early for me. Yeah, if you want to check out some of the runs from Mike Gillisley, you can check out the What's on Tape article. I think that one was Ben Cummins and some of the runs he made, the vision. It was really great. So it is too early for me in a PPR league.

with a guy like Todd Gurley right after him. DeAndre Hopkins starts the third round. Alshan Jeffrey. Time Montgomery. And then we have something you're going to see this year as well. Surprising, but you are going to see it. Travis Kelsey off the board just ahead of Rob Grankowski in the middle of the third round. PPR. Kelsey soaks up the targets, not necessarily the touchdowns. He did last year. He did last year. It went Kelsey Robinson.

Demarius Thomas and Rob Grankowski. I'll tell you what, if Gronk didn't go with that pick, you know, if I'm in the... You would have been talking this into him? Yes. And I would have bought him. In the third round, Gronk is a complete difference maker. And if he can slip that far, then I will be willing to take him. I'm not willing, because the players that we're giving up here, for instance, right now I look at the board and the guy I like the most is probably like my highest ranked wide receiver right now is actually Jarvis Landry and a full point Pee Hart.

PPR. I wouldn't want to pair him here with Jay Ajay and, you know, go all in and the dolphins probably because there's other pieces. But, I mean, you compare that, which is like, hey, it's a nice plug and play wide receiver that I can be sure of versus a gronk who's like, oh, this guy can, you know, lead my team in weeks. He can make up for other injuries if he himself is not getting injured. I want to bring this up before we make our third pick here at the back of the third round.

We do, you know, Leonard Fournet, Christian McCaffrey, Corey Davis, all the rookies. No rookies off the board yet. When do they belong? Where do they belong? I mean, where should these rookies be going? Is Leonard Fournet crawling into your brain here? In a PPR. Not in a PPR. It would, Christian McCaffrey is my 10th ranked PPR running back. Wow. PPR. I think he's going to catch 50 plus passes this year.

You don't take a guy in the top. This is your argument for Leonard Fornett. You don't take a guy in the top 10 to not use him. The same exact thing goes for Christian McCaffrey. His specialty is going to be a PPR situation. For those of you that might be pausing at listening to that, you need to remember the tale of Danny Woodhead. Oh, yes. Because Christian McCaffrey is extremely talented, high draft capital. And even though Danny Woodhead.

seemed to be limited in terms of what you look at as a prototypical running back, even a prototypical pass catching running back. He piled up the fantasy stats. He was a top 10 running back in PPR format. He probably will be this year. He might be this year. That's what he does. I'm still unsure of that situation over there. But yeah, look, makes sense. Christian McCaffrey on the board, Leonard Fournette on the board. Lamar Miller, still on the board, back of the third round, and at the wide receiver position,

Some names that are interesting to me, Devante Adams last year, 12 touchdowns. Jarvis Landry, as Jason mentioned. You also have a guy, Terrell Pryor in the back of the third round, should be the primary target for Kirk Cousins on a high pass-volume offense. Last year he had over 1,000 yards in Cleveland. I would throw out Golden Tate, who is pretty much a lock for 90 receptions. So, you know, in a full point PPR, he's a guy that I've always liked having. Arshawn Lynch. On the board, back of the third round.

You're not talking me into him. Well, we're handing the pick to you, Mike. Oh! Because Jason took A.J. Green with the first one. I took J. Ajai or pushed J. J.J.E. Agenda. All right. So I'll just... Real quick, this is my thought process. I love Jarvis at this pick, but I'm with Jason. I don't want to overload with dolphins with my first three picks. So in my consideration would be Devante Adams. I'm not buying in on him as a great wide receiver town. 75 receptions last year. But I think that the...

75, that's fine. But those touchdowns to me, I think he can easily get to 10 plus again. That's just what happens at Green Bay. So in contention for me, Devante Adams, Lamar Miller, and Christian McCaffrey. But I want to just get nuts.

You're going to get nuts? Oh, I know where you're going. You want to get nuts? Oh, my goodness. Are you taking? I'm taking McCaffrey. Oh, all right. Okay. Okay. Oh, you thought I was going to throw a wild card in there? I thought you were going to take Jordan Reed. That's exactly who I thought you were going to take. We didn't bring up any of the tight ends. No, because I would take him with my next pick. Yeah. In a full PPR, I mean, he's right there with Gronk to me. So everything I said about Gronk would apply. I'm so excited. The first time I drafted a rookie this off season. Yeah. Christian McCaffrey. We had to break the ice sometime.

Well, that's not entirely true because we did to do a rookie draft. I mean, in a full mock. Yes. All right. All right. Here we go. Lamar Miller, as I would expect, went right after Christian McCaffrey. Joe Mixing. Hey. Joe Mixing at 3.10. We didn't even bring the name up. That's a gamble where you go, if he is the guy used there, then this pick is going to pay off. But you are gambling because there's every bit of chance that Marvin Lewis.

lead team. It says, well, Jeremy Hill is our goal line. Listen, I completely agree with Jason. Do you buy into any potential Jeremy Hill trade? Do you think Jeremy Hill could be possible? We just talked about on the show on Tuesday. Mike and I talking about the rumors of Mark E. Ingram leaving New Orleans heading to Philadelphia. Which have been shut down. Which have mostly been shut down. What about Jeremy Hill? Is Jeremy Hill a candidate for trade or cut?

I don't think so, but there's a lot of rumors about that. I mean, you've got Geo coming off of an ACL. You had both of those guys injured at times last year. Lost Rex Burkhead. Had to have Rex Burkhead play. So to get rid of Jeremy Hill seems like at some point next year, he might be needed. Yeah. I don't. It could happen. Sorry, it could happen. But it's, well, when I get, when I talk Jeremy Hill, I get a little flustered. Yeah, I know. Because I want that tattoo removal service. No, it's very painful. Yeah.

Why do you get every one of your favorite players tattooed all over your back? That seems like a painful... Because I'm a very impulsive person. Let me just say this. If that is the case and your body is covered with your favorite players, then people need to know that your body is the new Madden cover, okay? Because everyone you love... This is a fair point. And they last about a year. And you spent all that money on that jersey. And then I go to the game the next year. And I don't want to pull out my Adrian Wilson jersey. Sammy Watkins, Carlos Hyde wrapping up the third round. That's early for me for Carlos Hyde, by the way. I would take Marshawn Lynch over Carlos Hyde, but he goes to the back of the third round. Devante Adams, possibly a steal there at the fourth round. Marshawn Lynch, Stefan Diggs, and Jarvis Landry going in the middle of the fourth. You know who did not go off the board, Mike, now that we're picking again? Jordan Reed. Jordan. I love Michael Key. Reed. Jordan Reed.

Are you guys really going to take him? I'm absolutely going to take him because, again, I'm usually... Leonard Fournett's still on the board. I am usually almost always a guy that takes a tight-in and a kick and a quarterback very, very late. I don't like taking them early. The only reason I would take one early is if I'm getting a true difference maker at the position, meaning the top tier. And the top tier is usually just gronk, but in a full PPR, it's gronk and reed. Those guys...

are near equal to me in my, you know, statistical projections. So I would take him. And I think they're going to need him this year, you know. You think he'll be capable of building a lot of yards? Oh, he's going to build so many yards. He's going to... Through the air, building them through the air. Oh, yeah. Big time. All right, Jordan Reed, hey, right after Leonard Fournette. He was tempting me there. Not that I really want to throw two rookies on this roster. But the name, the big name, tempting me. Golden Tate, love that pick. 407. Mark Ingram.

Corey Davis off the board at 409. It's interesting. I did my projections on Corey Davis today. I think he's going to have a good, not great year. I think he's going to make a difference in the red zone. Six and a half touchdowns is what I haven't projected for. It takes time for these rookies. I know we all love the O'Dell Beckham story of how we picked them up off waivers and we won our leagues. Who wrote, was a Keaton? Yeah, Keaton doesn't he? So Keaton has an article.

Are those same sirens sounding for Ezekiel Elliott and Jordan Howard last year? Luring in the four net and McCaffrey and mixing lovers? No, and the reason why is because rookie running backs.

are always, I mean, every year there are rookie running back producers who make an impact for fantasy teams. No doubt. And when you look at the draft capital spent, you know, of extremely high draft capital, you're talking top 10. Which Davis was five. No, no, no, but I'm saying in running back, that is actually a rather predictive stat. Whereas for wide receivers, it's very difficult to nail which wide receiver is going to have that opportunity.

As far as at the draft, you know, I mean, you bring up O'Dell. Everyone remembers, well, that won me a championship. Because he was free. He wasn't even drafted. That wasn't a decision people were making. And when he was drafted, he was dropped by week four. So you're saying get lucky. On wide receiver, yeah, I'm saying look for rookie wide receivers emerging. We're taking Jordan Reed. Jordan Reed. Jordan Reed, Jordan Reed. Jordan Reed, Jordan Reed. Jordan Reed. To be honest, I don't know how I feel about that roster right there. We're.

But it's interesting. And we have one wide receiver. Hey, yeah, you know, let's see the value. Let's see what we have there because we have the guy who led the league in reception still on the board. Larry Fitzgerald sitting here at the back of the fifth round. I'm going to give you some names that just went. Corey Davis after him. We saw Cameron Meredith go off the board and the first quarterback Aaron Rogers to the back of the fourth round. Devante Parker, Tevin Coleman. You have Charles Pryor finally off the board and Tom Brady went. Dalvin Cook, another rookie.

Right before our pick right here. So did Dalvin, did I miss Latavius or is Cook off the board now before Latavis? Dalvin Cook is off the board ahead of Latavis, as he should be. I'll take Murray over Cook for sure. Interesting. Whoa. Whoa. You're just seeing goal line. You're seeing. I'm saying total fantasy points at the end of the year.
