Fantasy Football Podcast 2017 - Early PPR Mock Draft

Because of Patriots. Right. Because the Patriots looked at the rule. Patriots Patriots. They found a rule that the NFLPA is trying to get rid of. And they have X. Remember when the Patriots had the all the weird who's eligible and ineligible? Yeah, sure. That they had to fix the rule on. Yeah. So this rule will be fixed next year. But now before Legeribol's future is right. But what it says is now if he signs with another team, he still counts towards their compensatory draft formula.

So they will still, they will be reimbursed if he leaves the team. However, if he does not find a team before July 22nd, he can only sign with the Patriots through week 10 of this season. Are you serious? Which means they, and they don't have to sign him. So if another team signs him before July 22nd, that team's giving up a compensatory draft pick? No, no, no, no. Oh, they just get one. Yes. Okay, he'll sign with some.

Yeah, I firmly believe he will, and that's why they did it, because I know he'll end up somewhere, like Detroit or something. Buffalo, Baltimore or somewhere. They'll get a pick back for it, and they're just, once again, the Patriots are the smartest team in the NFL. All right. It's also because it's a low blow. This is a really dirty move to do to Garrett Blunt. I'm just throwing it out there. Okay. You're just sharing your opinion. Yeah, my commentary on it. Yeah, I mean.

You never know what's going on behind the scenes, what kind of money they offered him. But, yeah, it's a strange move, a surprising move. And I want to get through these next two pieces of news real quick and start the mock draft here. Michael Floyd, former Cardinal Patriot receiver, signed with the Vikings, one-year deal, $1.5 million deal, incentives up to $6 million. I can't see him higher than fourth on the debt chart at this point. Is it more, they're checking out Michael Floyd, or is this?

Just they don't believe in Treadwell. I don't really like they've made a mistake. I think they feel that way already. I don't think Floyd has anything to do with it. So I think they're hedging. But I think I would put Treadwell ahead of Michael Floyd this year. And Floyd's a, I believe, a Minnesota native. And this was a fit that people saw coming a few weeks ago. Terrence West signed an original round, restricted free agent tender one year, $1.797 million dollar contract. Terrence West is the guy that.

I'm rising on and at the same time realize that one signing would end my excitement of it. Certainly. Baltimore is one of those teams that could certainly surprise as well with your Mike Wallace and Perman and the West Dixon Woodhead. There's going to be some fantasy relevant players there, even though I kind of don't want to touch it. All right. Anything else you guys need to share? You want to talk about? Mostly Brown's material? Oh, no. We're doing it for everybody. The next two weeks, I will bleed tears here as I stare at a monitor. Full stigmata. Yeah. All right. Well, let's get into the mock draft. Maybe. The fantasy footballers mock draft. All right, guys, I'm excited. Let's draft. We are drafting from the eighth pick, PPR. And...

As always, we use fantasydraftwizard.com to do this. It's really quick and efficient. You guys can see some of our reasoning behind these picks. And what I'm going to do right now is just give you the lay of the land. We're drafting at the eight spot. The draft just started and David Johnson went number one in a PPR mock. I love it. Makes sense. Well, Lev Bell went number two. Yeah, those are my top two guys for PPR. Even though they're running backs. PPR, nope. No, I'm with you. Yeah, give me the guy for 1,000 rushing yards and 80 plus.

receptions. Yeah, the laundry list of wide receivers that had less receptions than David Johnson did last year. The name surprise you, but, you know, Des Bryant's one of them and Brandon Marshall and these guys. Lev Bell, number two, Antonio Brown, number three. Ezekiel Elliott number four, does that pick surprise you, him coming ahead of five, six, and seven, which were Oedell Beckham Jr., Julio Jones and Mike Evans? I would have still taken him three personally.

You know, I think that... Position scarcity? Yeah, I mean, you only have those three guys at the running back position. Like, that's it. And then there's a huge gap to the next tier to me. And so I want one of those three, but I mean, who's going to blame you in a PPR for taking Antonio Brown? Yeah, and a PPR for Elliot's, I may go with Brown or Beckham or Julio, a guy who, you might have 120 plus receptions. And Zeke just was not...

used. He was not utilized heavily in the passing game. And it's not that he can't, but it could just be by design. That's not how Dallas is going to do things. Do you put LaShawn McCoy in a PPR league in the same tier as those other three, or do you have them a significant step down? He's still down there, but it's almost like LaShawn McCoy made it to be his own tier for me. You have the big three shady and then start the rest of them.

So this is an interesting spot to be drafting from the eighth spot. We've talked so much about how we love those top three running backs, how we love those next three wide receivers. And a lot of people have Mike Evans in that next four wide receiver class. So you're sitting here now with your first big decision. And it is a big decision. You're staring down our first pick in a PPR, two running back, two wide receiver, AJ Green on the board, Devante Freeman, LaShawn McCoy. You have Jordy Nelson.

a wideout that I have ranked even higher than AJ Green in my initial rankings. What are the considerations here for you guys? Well, we're clearly going to get either a stud wide receiver or a stud running back. And while we're at this point, I think when you look at both running back and wide receiver, you have several people in that next tier available. You just said, you know, AJ Green and Jordy. Yeah, I put AJ and Jordy are probably.

The next. Yeah. And then there's a drop to me. Sure. And a PPR, that might be the case with Des, kind of falling to that next tier. In the running backs, I've got Devanta Freeman and Shady and Melvin Gordon and DeMarco Murray all in that next tier. As do I. With that, I mean, if we're looking and we go, okay, there's, we're at the eight spot. So there's not that many picks before our next selection.

And if we're saying there's only two wide receivers here in that next tier, maybe that's the decision to make. I believe it is. I believe the tier drop at the wide receiver position. Two guys left there. Four I like at the running back position. A chance that a guy like DeMarco Murray could slip down to us in the second round. If it were me, I'm actually taking Jordie Nelson in this situation. Jordy's my highest ranked wide receiver. It's either remaining on the border overall.

remaining on the board. Gotcha. And for me, this majority is a guy who actually could make it back. AJ Green certainly will not make it back. So the pick actually, to me, is shady or AJ Green. Well, Jason, you're back from your absence. You've taken the place of the grizzly bear. We're going to give you the first pick in this draft. Sweet. Make the pick for our roster. Is it AJ Green? It is certainly going to be AJ Green for me. I know that neither one of you have him as the fourth ranked.

It's just that upside for Allen's targets. It depends on which, what you were going to buy in for the San Diego Charger offense. I think that. Oh, San Diego now, huh? Oh, the Los Angeles. You got me. I was just about to say I'm not used to seeing this L.A. Clipper abbreviation here. That's all I think of when I see L.A.C. Yeah. Well, you should. So for, but to me, just for Keenan Allen real quick, I still think he will be that high volume.

guy. So, but I don't know, even me, I don't know. Like injury quantity, like a high volume of injuries. Yeah, yeah, yeah. No, look, this is too soon for Keenan Allen. Yes, I agree. I agree. No question here is too soon. But, but this is representative too of what you're going to see. If somebody loves Keenan Allen and they look back at the pace he was on, the last time he played, that first half of the season, he was on fire for 100 plus receptions, easy. Here's a perfect example. In PPR scoring format, which of course, we know he's king.

Andy and I both have him shockingly low. We have him 30. I have him 30 and 36. What? I've got him for 88 receptions. And he's, you know, with the incoming. Yeah, you mix together Mike Williams with Hunter Henry. Yeah. I would just say you mixed together the injury history plus the addition of a number seven overall draft pick.

85 receptions is fine. Yeah, but Mike has them at 13. So, I mean, this is going to happen in drafts. He's going to be one of them will be drafted super high in PPR drafts. Yeah, one of the more highly debated players, no doubt this offseason. After Keenan Allen went LaShawn McCoy, great value at 11, Devante Freeman at 112, and flipping over to the second round, Des Bryant, Jordie Nelson, DeMarco Murray, unfortunately did not slip back to us so close. We gambled and lost them both.

Hilton, well, look, there's another guy I really, really like on the board here, and I might insist upon, and his name's Jay Ajay. Jay Ajay sitting here in the second round, Jordan Howard as well, and on the receiver side you have Amari Cooper, DeAndre Hopkins, Rob Grankowski on the board. I know none of us would even touch the quarterback position at this point, so maybe it's worth explaining why, but ultimately, if you've listened to us before, you know why. If you haven't listened to us before,

You realize that we buy into the philosophy that you need to wait on your quarterback position. You only start one quarterback. And it's easily replaceable. Exactly. The replacement value is readily available each and every week on the waiver wire. For JHA, are you buying into this news, this hype that coming out of Florida that JHAE will be used more in the passing game?

I think what I know about... Is that factoring into your decision here? It's not fact... Well, I factored into how I statted J.I. out the fact that he can be a weapon in the passing game. But J.J.J.I. had a monster year. You're talking about 1,200-plus yards, 260 carries, and a player who showed massive passing game chops in college. Right. And so you mix that with some... Look, the Miami offensive coordinator had a string of hyperbole the likes of off-season...

Right. Hall of Fame. I mean, he came out and said, Devante Parker's going to have a monster year that Jaya Jai is going to be a monster pass catcher. And I think he talked about somebody else. Tana Hill's entering the Hall of Fame. Their offensive coordinator thinks their offense is going to be good. Yeah. Go figure. That being said, Jaya Jai, I feel more comfortable with Jai than Jordan Howard. That's really the question for me. That's the decision for me. Those two guys are my next two highest ranked running backs for sure. And I would agree with that. I mean,

Jordan Howard was amazing his rookie year. He's great. He's a great player. He's on a worst team. He's on a worst team. And I don't trust that offense. I would go J. Ajai here as well. That is not factoring in those comments whatsoever. I didn't change my statting on J. Ajai, and he is my ninth ranked running back right now. Because on top of the JHA is going to get more passing work, you still have the report of, well, Kenyon Drake's going to be.

worked in more and more. And that's, he's kind of a specialist for that. And just a reminder, he was the third running back taken two years ago. Clearly Miami liked him. So that was just, I wanted to see how you, your temperature on, on that situation. No, and that's fair. But I think Jia Jai is just a high volume, proved he could do it. He's going to be my pick here. He might not be everybody's pick. It's, but I'm going to take him. I, that's fine. And I, I get it. I don't, it.

And I know we hate the argument of, well, if they didn't have this monster game, but you just said it with 1,200 yards, is that what he had? Correct. And I think he had 603 games. You know, that reminds me so much. That's pretty impressive. I know, but that's the thing is like, it's super impressive. But this argument, just to play devil's advocate to that, right? Like, I get it. And by the way, I don't want to like J.J.I. Just for the record. Like, I didn't like him last year. Just like him as a person? I didn't buy it.
