Fantasy Football Podcast 2016 - Mock Draft Episode!

Oh, a banana. Oh, that's too late. I'm in. Here's the problem with that. A smoothie bet. I think Jason might want to lose the bet now because he loves bananas. Bananas are delicious. They belong in every dessert. He just hedged like a master. He hedged the water bet with throw dessert in my face. Yeah, we're going to use a banana cream pie here. Well, there's no guarantee this is in your face.

This could be in your crotchel region, my friend. This could be a bananas foster. I don't even know what that means. All right. You know what's crazy is I'm looking at the board, and I'm saying Justin Fawcett here is a really good value this late in a draft. So it's funny to have this conversation. Yeah, let's talk about quarterbacks on the board for the people listening. Tony Romo, Derek Carr, Andy Dalton, Mariotta, Winston, Ryan Cousin, Stafford, one of my guys.

There's just so many quarterbacks. I know. I don't want to draft on either. At the running back, you got Forset, you got Coleman, you got ProSise, McFadden, not seeing a lot of names I love. If you have Thomas Rawls, how do you not take pro-size? It's not I'm not saying how do you not, but how strongly do you feel about handcuffing?

Thomas Rawls with ProCyce. And we don't even know that ProCise is the guy to own. That's my problem. It could be C. Michael. It's really tough with a rookie like that. That isn't a consensus three down back. If it was just Collins, right? If you just knew, like look last year with Devonthe Freeman. Tevin Coleman is the clear-cut guy to own, even though he's a rookie, he was drafted early, he's the guy to own. That's not the case with Procise. You got Collins, you got...

Christine Michael, I don't think you, I don't think that's the handcuff necessarily. I agree. I would rather have Tevin Coleman here who's on the board because if Thomas Rawls goes out, I expect C.J. Pro Seas to do what Fred Jackson did, which is to stay in that role and have someone else come in to have Alex Collins come in or see Mike. But that's what someone asked me just today on Twitter. I don't know what impression they got of my thoughts on handcuffs. But they basically said, why is it better to have the handcuff?

then another backup running back. It's not. That's what I said. I said it's not better. There are certain situations that it is ideal to have the actual handcuff. We don't want any handcuffs. We only want handcuffs. And if he's not one of those great guys, we don't want a handcuff. I don't want a handcuff. I don't either. I'd rather have, like in this situation, like you said.

Someone might jump and go, I got to get ProCise. ProCise has to be the guy I pick over Tevin Coleman because I have Rawls. Can I just ask you a question, though? Of all the running backs that are available. I mean, we're looking here. We're really late. We're ninth round. Is there possibly any starter left? Or is everybody on there still just a backup?

Theoretic is on the board, and he could lead the team in fantasy points. Yeah, but he's not the starter, right? No, he's not. Chris Johnson? Immediately? No, yeah, who's starting the week one as the starter for their team? Nobody in this list other than, I mean, Tevin Coleman would be. No, he's not the starter. He would, he's the only guy in that list, oh, I think could potential. Justin Fawcett is the clear starter for the Ravens. That's my point. Well done. I forgot he was still there. I know, because he shouldn't be.

And I'm with Jason. I like Justin Forsett a lot. All right. Andy drafted him. All right. We took him. We're coming around. 10th round. Got to move it on. Got to move it on. Got to move it train, Mike. All right. Pro size off the board. Jordan Howard. I want this next pick. DeVorese down. You won it yourself? Yeah. All right. Talk about who's on the board. We are in round 10. So you're looking at a Marcus Wheaton, a Vincent Jackson. He said Marcus Wheaton's name so sadly. Because it is. Here, say his name again. Say his name again. Marcus Wheaton.

He's the guy left standing. That's not fair. No, that's true. But you're sad. In, like, Stefan Diggs, I mean, I guess Treadwell here is interesting when you're in the 10th round. But we are in the 10th round, and there is a player who I have as a 2, a wide receiver 2. Are we going to give him Tori Smith here, Andy? I was already given the pick. You can't take it back. So the pick here is, is Tori Smith for me. I understand dancing.

with the devil here for one more round possibility with Smith, but double digits, a guy who is, I believe it was a good colleague of ours. Matthew Barry has just tweeted out criminally underdrafted. Tori Smith, I am with you, I am with Matt Harmon. He's not the only one. I would say Matt Harmon applauds every time that you move him into that side receiver, too. There are just, I love the upside of Tori Smith. You're in the 10th round here. You got pretty much nothing to lose. Do you understand?

The Tori Smith talk is identical to the Carlos Hyde talk. There are those that will buy into Carlos Hyde, and there are those that won't. And the arguments for Tori Smith's success are identical. Yes. System, opportunity, versus horrible team. If you don't know... Plus talent. If you don't know, San Francisco is favored in zero of their 16 matchups this year. No home matchup, are they a favorite Vegas-wise? Right now. Yep.

Right now, things change frequently. There's high turnover in the NFL of teams improving. They're in a division with Arizona. I'm not predicting they will. Seattle, with St. Louis. But it's going to be tough sledding, even if Tori Smith gets, however many more throws you set. The nice thing about that pick is that we're going to see really quick if we can just cut him. You know what I mean? Like, I'm not going to wait around forever on Tori Smith when we're using our 10th round pick to grab them. Look, you talked about drafting some guys with upside.

guys that are slotted in as a one? I mean, Toy Smith's the one. That's kind of good to have. So we're in the 10th round. Let's just look at the quarterbacks that are available. I really like Tony Romo. When you can get him late double-digit rounds, Tony Romo, to me, is a guy who has finished year after year after year. When Health, he's finished as a top fantasy quarterback. So to be able to get him and the 10th I'm happy with. Granted, I also like Andy Dalton a lot. I would take Matthew Stafford. Later.

And I think you'll be outvoted two to one on that. Well, we got Marvin Jones. Well, I would push. I wouldn't take a quarterback here. There's enough that we still like. So many that I love. So how many picks do we have left? Because it's only a five bench league. We got one, two, three, four picks left. Whoa. So our bench is done. And two of them is. No, no, our Ben.

We have one bench spot left, and I think we do roll the dice. We draft a running back or a wide receiver. Okay, so we only have one more bench spot. I'm actually perfectly fine here, taking the quarterback. If Romo is the guy that you want over all of these guys, then I would just take it. For me, you know, I would want either Romo or Dalton. You don't want Christine Michael right here? Just in case Rawls doesn't start in week one or week two. That is an interesting thing.

Or is it because there's just so much? I think Christy Michael is the clear handcuff right now. You do? Right. I do. Yeah. Because he was last year, and he's taking first team reps, and he was the guy that came in when Rawls was hurt last year. He knows the system better than Alex Collins or C.J. ProCise will not be a three-down back no matter what to start his career in Seattle. There's no chance of that. I feel like he's just a normal handcuff to me. You're talking about Michael? Yeah, Michael. I'm not sure that it's him or Collins. All right. So I'd rather spend the fab budget later in the

year when I know who it is. The only tempting thing here of drafting just an average handcuff is that it is possible Thomas Rawls isn't ready for week one. Josh Doxon? I feel like that's what Andy was talking about. Yeah, that's what I was saying. That's the point of Michael's having a starter in week one. Yeah, I guess because it's week one and you can't pick them up on Fab. I'm fine with Chris and Michael. Yeah, so nobody's excited about this pick right now. If I was taking the running back, I think I would just hedge there with Michael. There's a good amount of wide receivers here who are very interesting though.

with major upside like Josh Doxon, Dorset, the old reliable Aiken. I understand that the upside is capped with him. Ted Ginn. Ted Ginn is on the morning? You're moving a Jeff Janice, a Sammy Coates. If we want Kristen Michael. Josh Gordon, just in case. If we want Chris and Michael, he's going to be their next round. So we should take the quarterback we want.

That's fair? Who do you want? You pick the quarterback. Then I'm going to pick Tony Romo. I think he is a fantasy stud, throws a lot of touchdowns. And we've taken Matthew Stafford. It looked like he was going to do it. That would be my thing. I would love to take Matthew Stafford. I think Matthew Stafford, Tony Romo is going to be a water bet we make soon. Hold on, hold on. It probably will be. But that will be based on 16 games.

Are they, or wait, that you have to get 16 in? Yeah, Tony Romo is not injured. That's what all of our listeners do. They say, Tony Roe, let's draft Tony Romo right here because you guarantee 16 games. If Tony Romo gets injured, I'm fine streaming the position. That's my view. If he plays a full 16, I've got a starter for 16 games. If he's, he's an injury risk, he's not going to go out and just stink.

Does anybody think that Tony Romo is going to go out, play football, starting the game, and then really hurt me week and weekend. So let me show you what's going on here. Right now Matthew Stafford is ninth on my board. He is 22nd on yours and he's 18th on mics. Romo is 19th on mics. So he has Stafford one ahead of Romo basically back to back. Jason, you have Romo 10 and I have Romo 18. And so we have Stafford Romo exactly inverse. Mike has him back to back.

Make the quarterback. Yeah, Mike's got to pick it. Ooh. I'm going to go with Tony Romo. Well. Yes. America has won. I have them so close on my rankings that I went with the guy who still has an elite level wide receiver. So we're going to grab the maybe cuff. The maybe cuff and Christine Michael. Hey, Kamar Aiken got drafted. We did it, everybody. We did it America. Yeah, Kamar Aiken got drafted. We did it, America.

The last position player in the draft looks to be Jeff Janice. That's not bad. Alfred Morris went right before that. That's not bad either. He went 13. You don't like even, you don't like at all taking a flyer on Morris? No, I don't like Morris at all. I think DMC is the better handcuffed there. So there you go. Do not get rid of the draft. I will not get rid of the draft. I will not. All right. So that is it for our mock draft. We do need to go through our roster. Do we not?

Yeah, let's read off the final roster. And we will also point out, we have a lot of people, you know, oh, man, Fantasy Draft Wizard, it didn't like my team. Yeah, but here's the thing. Did you like your team? Because we're, well, I guess we'll find out if we actually like our team, but Fantasy Draft Wizard thought that team was not very strong. Well, and here's the reality. If you want to, if you want to have at the end of it, have your rankings say that it was high, it goes based off the rankings. So just take the guy they recommend every single time and you'll have the...

The highest score. The highest score. But that's clearly not going to work come draft. So do not draft a team that you like and get a bad score and think, oh, I must have drafted a bad team. I never have a good team. And that's human nature to see those rankings afterwards and question yourself. But you've got to realize those are based on consensus rankings, expert rankings elsewhere. That doesn't mean it's the best thing for your team in your league. And...

Just be happy with making the right decision on every pick. Yeah, but you've got to believe in your process. So the question is, by going crazy, going running back, running back to start, avoiding those wide receivers, did we end up with a team that we can build a championship? Here's the team. Tony Romo, a very high upside quarterback with the injury history, Jamal Charles and Mark Ingram at the running backs. You've got two potential ones right there. I like that a lot. In a standard league, touchdown heavy. Julian Edelman and Eric Decker.

I like the fact that those guys are consistent. Consistent. You've got almost 20 touchdowns between them last season despite Edelman's injury. You got Tyler Eifert, a guy with 14 touchdowns at your tight-in position, and you got Thomas Rawls in the flex as of today with options at the flex of Dante Moncrief, Marvin Jones. Kristen Michael of Rawls. Tori Smith, Christine Michael. And so I like it. I really don't mind it. I like it. I thought when we were taking the risk, I thought.

This is going to be garbage. I'm telling you right now. I like it. If we had taken, like, I don't know, Deshawn Jackson and Jeremy Macklin or something, and you look at this team, you don't really feel comfortable. But when you slot in guys like Decker and Edelman to supplement the powerhouse running backs, you feel kind of comfortable. In a standard league, I would love this team. I really would.

And we say it all the time. I say it all the time. You don't win your championship at the draft. You build your foundation. You build your foundation. This is a good foundation team where we can go and win the championship. Man, the effort, we had a lot of things break well for us in the draft, which, you know, those things happen when the bolts are flying on your live. That Tyler Ifer pick sets things over the top for me.
