Fantasy Football Podcast 2016 - Mock Draft Episode!

Yeah, so Julian Edelman would be my pick. All right. Yeah, let's go Edelman. So Edelman slots in at a 1 and a standard on our team, which is a little unexpected. A little bit of a reach to say Julian Edelman will be your wide receiver 1, but it's just a little bit of a reach, really. And to start with three stud running backs, I'm not too disappointed so far.

All right, so let's go ahead. Why don't one of you guys run back what we had off the board? Can you see it? From Edelman. Yeah, after that, we had Randall Cobb, Russell Wilson, Latavius Murray, Andrew Luck, Jeremy Maclin, Golden Tate, Kelvin Benjamin. My man, Ryan Matthews, unfortunately went off the board there. Jordan Reed, Jeremy Hill, Dionne Lewis, Jay, Ajee, Frank Gore. Frank Gore, moving up. Hey, getting some respect. Wow, in the fifth round. Good for you, Frank Gore. Jarvis Landry.

Jonathan Stewart, the Fantasy Cabbage, and Greg Olson. If you look last year to start the season, I'm just looking at Edelman. I think that run was great. Yeah, it was great for us, because only four wide receivers went, and that was a long run where we were, you know, away from our turn. So now we get two of the next, you know, what is that, in the next five picks or so? Yeah. Seven. I'm still staring at Edelman as the number one here, and I'm looking at and seeing.

He started last year with six touchdowns in his first eight games. Yeah. Julian Edelman, number one wide receiver. Come on, Brady. Yeah, I don't feel great about it, but that's okay. All right, we're sitting here. You read it back. Ninth pick of the fifth round. Eric Decker is still sitting on the board. Michael Floyd's sitting on the board. Unfortunately, for me, Jeremy Macklin's off the board. If you buy into Michael Floyd being a potential number one and you're not confident Edelman isn't more of a two, he's a risky number one here. I think the pick has to be Decker. Really?

I do. I would love, look, here's what you're doing in this draft, as I smack my microphone. In this draft, you have taken, you're all in on running back. Standard League. You've got touchdown machines on your team, right? Ingram, Charles, Rawls, those are guys that should carry the load. At this point, I am not looking for high risk at wide receiver. I'm looking for the safe. Who's safer than Edelman and Decker?

From a reception and a red zone target standpoint. I completely agree with that. You have to look at the makeup of your team. And normally what happens is I want my wide receiver one to be a huge blow-up potential guy and my wide receiver two to be more consistent. But that's in a normal draft where I didn't just go running back, running back, running back. You explained it perfectly, Andy. You want consistency. You just need to get every week some production out of these guys and let your running backs carry you if that's how this draft is gone.

Eric Decker would be my pick as well. My pick right here, I have Decker slightly ahead of Michael Floyd in my rankings, but the upside that Michael Floyd could be the number one wide receiver for a team that had the most yards in the NFL last year was the second highest scoring team in the NFL. I would go for that upside, but I'm okay with Decker here.

Decker it is with the two-thirds vote. I don't mind Floyd. Followed immediately by Michael Floyd. Feels scary. Yeah, Floyd went next, then Big Ben, John Brown. It's interesting. Again, Michael Floyd, John Brown. Two picks apart. Jason and I have talked at length on the show about our opinions about those guys. Clearly, they are going very close. Drew Breeze, six round. Is that a value?

It is, I think it is fair. I'd love to get him in the 7th or 8th. It's fair value for him if you're wanting, if you want to take the quarterback earlier, Drew Brees and the 6th, that could be worse. Now you had Jordan Matthews and then Jeremy Langford, third pick of the 6th round, went behind Gore. That's pretty good value. Went behind a Jai, went behind Jeremy Hill. That seems like a steal. At that point, I would be in on Jeremy Langford. All right. It's our pick now, guys. Well, it looks like there's actually still a couple wide receivers on the board that.

that are valuable here. You've got Emmanuel Sanders on the board. Larry Fitzgerald. Larry Fitzgerald. And then it kind of trails off a little bit. We could pair Hearns with Decker and just go with the wide receiver two. I think at this point I have a different mentality with those two solid guys in there. I start to look at Deshawn Jackson.

I start to look at Emmanuel Sanders. What about a, could I talk you into a Dante Moncrief? You could talk me into a Dontee. Dante Moncrief to me is a guy who I think can be consistent, but could be huge. He's one of these rare guys on a team where he could end up near the wide receiver one. He's got that kind of potential to me. When the waiter brings the menu, and Mike's picking somebody out, he always picks out a Moncrief.

If you give him the chance to pick a Dante Moncrief out, he will. So it depends. It depends on what time it is. I mean, how risky am I feeling? So you guys don't feel like you want the upside of a Kevin White or Deshawn Jackson here. Not Kevin White. You can't talk me into that. Deshawn Jackson is a, I'm okay with that. So what is the bust potential of Dante Monkrie? What is the bus? I mean, we're in the sixth round. We're in the sixth round, but this is a guy who we're going to potentially have to flex.

You know, Rawls? Sure. There's risk with Rawls. We're talking about a guy who we have to flex. In fact, we got three injury-prone guys with Ingram and Charles and Rawls right now. Well, because they're running backs. They all are injury. We have three running backs. In a standard league, Dante Moncrief, I don't remember if you recall it, Jason, but I think it was five touchdowns of the first seven games. He started off real hot. So, and that's...

That's where I would go. I would go with the upside of Moncrief. I think he is a monster breakout candidates this year. Kelsey, Eiffert, Fleener? Any of those names in Tice? Kobe Fleener does, but I think we can be able to get him later. So this is the Moncrief is the pick. Let's do it. Now, I could be talked into it, but just for, for prosperity's sake for myself, posterity sake for myself. Wait, what do you say for prosperity? This is how we grow. I would say, I've got Deshaun Jackson.

Marvin Jones and Devante Parker ahead of Dante Moncrief, but I'm fine with all four of those. If we want to go Moncrief. Devonte Parker is interesting there. He's got the opportunity to be a one. You know that Moncrief is not the one. Moncrief is not. It's Hilton. Right. And I understand that. But I've seen Andrew Luck throw 40 plus touchdowns. Yep. And I don't care. He'll throw four plus. And to be fair to that point.

We don't know that Parker's the one either. Sure, very true. I mean, the same way it's T.Y. Hilton, it could be. Looks like I'm drafting Dante Monkrie. Yes. I don't know if I, Mike, can you reach over and push the button? I can't, but I can think about it. All right. I pushed it with my brain. Well, I did it. It was tough. Certainly not.

All right, so we got a nice mixture of a run between these picks. Large group of guys. A lot of quarterbacks. Quarterbacks, tight ends going off the board, running backs, and wide receivers, all of them. I'll give you some highlights here. You had Blake Bortles, Tom Brady, Eli Manning, and Carson Palmer go off for the quarterback position. You have Julius Thomas. Kobe Fleener, Delaney Walker, and Travis Kelsey. So now tight ends.

Those have been gone. Now, here's my opinion. If the guy you want at tight end that you think is a good mid-round value is gone, then I'm going to wait for a long time because there's plenty of late guys that I like. So I'm going to hold off on tight-in personally. You don't think Tyler Eifert with the ninth pick of the seventh round in a standard league with his touchdown potential is the pick right here? No, no, no. I do. Not only.

Do I agree with that? I had no idea Tyler Eiffert was still on this point. I assumed when we're talking about all these other guys in a standard league. That is a can't misspick to me. Well, you're not risking as much when you're... You got a 14 touchdown year on a limited work. I don't care if he misses a game or two. You're in a standard league where Eifford's power has really felt. It's not PPR. It's not the Jordan Reed show. This is the touchdown show.

I think Eifford is the shoe-in pick right here versus a fourth wide receiver or a fourth running back. We actually have a consensus pick because I would take Eifford here as well. That's just a steal. I think that's the pick of the draft. If he had been gone and you moved to that next tier, then what I'm saying is wait for a long time. Very fair. All right, Melvin Gordon went next. Gary Barnage. Okay, that's fair. Corey Coleman. So back-to-back Browns.

Don't see that too often. Ladarius Green, Amir Abdullah, and Zach Ertz. And now we're in the fourth pick of the eighth round. All right. I'm going to need a better, a more clear shot of who is available. Sure thing. We've got, that's difficult to do. But we got... Why don't you hide the guys that are... Kevin White? Kevin White here is interesting. Michael Crabtree is also on the board. Ooh, Tyler Lockett. And...

Yeah, I mean, there's a few guys here. Who are the running backs that are available? Do we have, can we pull that list up? Yeah, running backs. We've got Gio Bernard, Danny Woodhead, Chris Ivory, Carlos Williams, Legerrett Blunt. We've got Arian Foster and his impending signing of somewhere. Because we started so running back heavy, I kind of like being able to take some shots.

I mean, this is where guys like Kevin White or Marvin Jones, those guys, we've got a core of wide receivers that we know are solid. Try to buy a one late in the draft. Try to buy a one. And you can, those two guys are the guys that stick out to me. Kevin White and Marvin Jones could run into that role. Kevin White could possibly run into that role. So those two guys are who stick out to me. Yeah, those are the guys that stick out to me too. I mean, Treadwell is a little bit of a temptation. If he can get the touchdown numbers, I'm worried about volume.

But he's still a thought process here. He's still a consideration for me. Sure. Mike, what do you think? I like the thought process of leaning between Marvin Jones and Kevin White. We were just talking about Jones on the ADP show of he's going really late, like right now. And he had a game of four touchdown. Sure, that was probably a little bit of a fluke. But here's the thing. Actually being able to see it done, you know, that's better than not. Am I right?

Yeah. Is a red zone option? I like Jones as an option here because White is going to need an injury to Alshon Jeffrey to be an elite one. I'm going to go with Marvin Jones here. So Marvin Jones, off the board, we got to wait a little while again. Geo Gates went off the board. Big running back run. Kevin White did go. A bunch of running backs, Isaiah Crowell in the ninth, Derek Henry, Garrett Blunt, Foster, Dixon. Kenneth Dixon went off in the ninth. What do you think of that?

I would not personally do it. Kenneth, I mean, I'm not, it's not at a gross pick at all to me. Kenneth Dixon, if you can hold him on your bench by the end of the year, he could be one of those second half type of guys we talk about. If he gets into the starting position, he could be a guy that carries you over the, pushes it over the top, but at the same time, I don't think he starts the year as the starter.

So I think you'd be waiting a while on Dixon. You'd be like an egg. You're trying to hatch the egg. All right. We're at the ninth pick of the ninth round. So Kenneth Dixon in this draft went before Justin Fawcett. That's bananas. That is absolutely ridiculous and stupid. Justin Fawcett is their starter. He's the guy that I think is going to end the year with the...

lion's share hearing. Oh my gosh, we couldn't disagree more. So you're saying you would rather have... I'm willing to hit the button right now. Oh, do it. I don't even know what the bet is. Dixon versus Fawcette? Yeah. That's B-nanas. B-nanas. What section are the B-nanas found in? They're failing the crazy section. That's where they are. They're found in the Looney bin.

So you're taking the guy who is currently slotted in as the fourth running back over the guy that is currently slotted in as the first running back. Yes, sir. Okay. Wow. Yes, sir. I'll take Kenneth Dixon over the long haul. I'm not saying he's going to start the year. No, we're not talking dynasty, right? We're talking. I just want to make sure you're not saying like a 10-year long haul. Yeah, in three or four years, you're going to say, ah, I told you. No, I'm talking about by the end of the year, you're going to wish you had Kenneth Dixon. Okay.

Maybe by the end of the year. And I'm going to make you eat some beananas on the air. That's what we'll have to do. You will have to eat some bananas. All right. Let me write this. Let me transcribe this. You will have to spend an entire episode eating bananas. That's what you're going to have to do. Well, here's what we should do.
