This episode is brought to you by State Farm. Every football fan is different. Some won't wash their lucky mustard-stained jersey until the season's over. Some insist they can't sit down on third downs and some pick their favorite team because, I don't know, just like football fandom, nobody's life is exactly the same. And that's why State Farm gets to know you, not as a policy number, but as an actual person.

2:11 ↗

Guys. Doing some reps over there? Guys, it's week one. Oh, it's week one. We made it. We made it. The extended by week is over. Oh, oh. Mercy. Mercy rings down from the heavens upon us all. Welcome into the show. Excited to be back with you. Enjoyed, I guess, a reprieve yesterday with the families. Didn't have a show. First time we've never had a Labor Day show.

2:40 ↗

which means that it takes us three or four years to learn that a lot of people are off on Labor Day and we should take the day off and give our employees a day with the family to prime up before the season. We didn't give them the day off, Andy. We made them come in and just cleaned mop. Yeah, we were toilets. I think I did make Brooks do some social media. I think just like a brief amount.

3:04 ↗

From his work computer, though. Were you doing the breakfast in bed with the mimosa while you did that for me, Brooks, though? I mean, you were enjoying the day? Nah. Nah. Not enjoying. Not enjoying the wishes he was here. But week one is upon us. It is. And the weekend was wild and crazy. Yeah, a little bit. A little bit. And everybody wants, I don't know if you guys know how Twitter works.

3:34 ↗

But they want to know everything immediately. You want when news breaks, which we're going to get into so much of it today from LaShawn McCoy to Damien Williams, Carlos Hyde, Laramie Tunzel, all this news. But you need to know immediately the entire future of the world on Twitter. It's imperative. And I get it. That's our job to speculate on those things and figure it out. But news takes...

4:04 ↗

time to develop a real good picture of what's going to happen. And so we have, I think, a little bit more than we had on Saturday night and Sunday. Sure. But while you were over there being measured, I was just a volcano firing off hot takes as soon as the news broke. I thought you were a man sobbing in the corner with his Damien Williams shares. Was that not your actual state?

4:28 ↗

No, no, there was some, uh, some weeping. There was some words that we don't talk about on this podcast that may have been muttered under my breath. Oh, well. But I pulled myself together. Here's, here's some headline news for the Foot Clan out there, getting ready for week one. Today, the week one rankings will be up on the website. The start sit tool will be up on the website.

4:53 ↗

We'll have all of our, basically, this is the transition day into week one. People have been drafting. People drafted all weekend long. People are still drafting. I love my. Come on. You're supposed to finish it. That was impressive. Thank you. And you are both simultaneously correct. People are still drafting. The season has not begun. It will begin Thursday. Point of clarity because I need to say this. I misspoke on the last show when I inferred.

5:23 ↗

that Josh Gordon played on Thursday. Somewhere in the deep recesses of my subconscious, I thought the Patriots always play on Thursday to start the year. They play on Sunday. So I had made the comment that you need to make sure that you move a player out of your flex into a position spot on Thursday. So that would be all Packers, all bears. The strategy still holds. The strategy holds. The advice was garbage. The specific example was.

5:51 ↗

horribly inaccurate. So apologies on that. You can find us on Twitter at the FF baller. Still time to get in on the signed Alvin Camara jersey giveaway at footclan giveaway.com. And I also want to encourage people, if you do want to be a part of the Meglabel, the deadline is basically, yeah, thank you, Mike. Is that a ping pong bowl? No, that's a... Oh, that's a clock. That's a...

6:18 ↗

The little timer. Ait timer. Ending doom. Yes. But you can go to join the foot.com. All of our Patreon supporters get a free entry into the Meglabel. There are over 6,500 of you now in the biggest best tournament of all time. This legitimately, as far as a true season long league, I don't know if it's the biggest that exists, but it might be.

6:45 ↗

So that won't stop us from claiming that it is. That it could be. That it could be. It's going to be a lot of fun. So without further ado, no quick question. Too much news to cover. Let's do it. News and notes from around the league. Presented my sleeper. I have no idea how long it will take us to get through all the news, roster cuts. As long as it takes, Andy. As you say, I don't care how long it takes. I've been wanting to talk with both of you about all of these issues as much as I have the Foot Clan because,

7:20 ↗

We were off this weekend and we were we were trading slack messages and we were tweeting. Mm-hmm. But. We didn't get a chance to argue in person. Certain. And that's really what fuels us. Yes, yes. My blood needs to be boiling to exist in this world. The bills released running back LaShawn McCoy. This was, I'll give a shout out to Mike.

7:48 ↗

who on our show on Friday specifically said, please don't cut Devin Singletary or make any adjustments to your bill shares until this weekend happens. Because all offseason long, the moves the bills made, pretty much pointed towards releasing the show McCoy, all the words they said.

8:15 ↗

were related to Lishon's our guy. I've been told he's the guy. He's the number one guy. He's my best guy. And now he's gone. Yeah, the money pointed to getting rid of him. And that's really, that was the cause when we first started talking about Shady possibly being released was just because look at the money. I mean, he was owed more than so many other star running backs combined in the league. They go out and they sign Frank Gore. They bring in T.J. Yeldden and draft a running back.

8:43 ↗

it looked like it would happen. And then all the verbiage, all the usage in preseason, we kept saying, like we were off, you know, off show. We were like, man, it just looks like they're trying to feature him for a trade or highlight him or something. Yeah, it had to have been for the trade. And just no one was going to trade for Lashon McCoy with the amount of money he was owed. Yeah, no question about it. So McCoy, gone. Let's talk about what remains in Buffalo before we talk about where Shady

9:14 ↗

went. Devin Singletary, Frank Gore, T.J. Eldon. That is the backfield in Buffalo. Marcus Murphy also released one of the other running backs in the room. But Singletary shares those of you with Devin Singletary, rookie running back. We're very excited about this news. Frank Gore has looked like the starter throughout the preseason continues to be.

9:42 ↗

ever the Frank Gore. He's infinite. So how do you boys see this shaking out for the duration of this season? Like how would you treat? Because I know the questions. Right. They don't just want to, our listeners don't just want to hear that. They also want to hear what do I do week one with the Buffalo backfield. So where are you with those two questions? So I believe it will start out as a timeshare. What was great for Devin Singletary and hopefully for the majority of our listeners.

10:09 ↗

You were able to draft Singletary incredibly late when the backfield was muddled on the surface. But the shady release, it just really felt like it was going to happen. That's why Singletary was worth the draft pick. Unfortunately, after the news, Singletary would just, he got in his rocket ship, and he launched off to Mars. And people started paying up way too much for Singletary who they think, okay, automatically.

10:38 ↗

Singletary is the leader of the backfield. He's going to be the primary guy. I don't think that's the truth. I think that Frank Gore and Singletary will share the first and second down role. And then T.J. Eldon, who's a great pass catcher. Meanwhile, Devon, he'll play third downs. Devon Singletary, he doesn't really have a huge production profile, especially his last year in college. So I'm concerned that he'll be able to work in on third downs.

11:05 ↗

But Singletary is a, he is a great stash if you were able to get him in that 9th or 10th round or even later. I don't, personally, I don't think he's going too high in drafts right now. Really? I would draft him higher. Right now he's in the ninth round in like the last week. That's just ADP hasn't caught. Sure. Like people were asking me. I will take him in the 6th round. That's where people were taking it. And that's, that's what I would tell people personally to do. They did not cut LaShawn McCoy because of Frank Gore. They cut LaShawn McCoy.

11:34 ↗

because of Devin Singletary. He has come in. He's looked electric. There's been some people around the team that say they believe he can be a workhorse three down back. He has that skill set. That's what hurt the ADP. It was not just the release of LaShawn McCoy. It was an accompanying beatwriter who suggested that Singletary would be featured right out of the gate. And you combine those two things into kind of the whirlwind for Singletary.

12:03 ↗

I think Singletary will establish himself in time. I do not think it will be immediate by any stretch of the imagination. And for all, I don't know if you've seen this. I mean, you know, this was a surprise to them. This was a surprise to Frank Gore. This was a surprise to Devon Singletary. Gore came out and said in practice on Monday. He said, I thought it was a joke. When he heard Lasham was released, he said 10 minutes later, I noticed he was actually serious. Like, he didn't know this was going to happen. So Gore has looked better than Singletary.

12:33 ↗

In the preseason. No. Yes. Gors looked fine. He's looked better than you expect. Singletary's had a very moderate preseason. He's three point something to carry. Yeah. Gore has been for something to carry and he's looked better to me. So the problem with- The future is Singletary. The present might be Gore for a few weeks. Like he maybe he turns into a three-down guy, but that's what has to happen if you're going to start moving him way up your draft board. No one was excited to draft Shady McCoy.

13:01 ↗

No one. He was going sometimes after Devon Singletary in drafts, and he was the starter. Like, it was, yes, we were reading the tea leaves that he should be cut, but that was a really last second cut. And up until that point, no one felt like the starting running back for Buffalo had value. But that was because it was shady. I mean, the truth is, early in the off season, I said that there's no point in which.

13:27 ↗

I would draft shady because he was 31 years old. Interesting. Okay. Last season he looked terrible. That was early in the offseason, just saying he was on his way down and out as a player. I mean, that's just how it looked. And now you've got a guy coming in that was high draft capital. One of the most telling translating stats are certain stats in college that translate better for predictability and fantasy. At the running back position,

13:56 ↗

surprisingly the most sticky stat from college to fantasy production in the NFL is rushing touchdowns for running backs. And Devin Singletary had 32 in one season and 22 in his final season. I mean, you saw him used around the goal line in preseason and then, you know, I think he's got the opportunity. Do I think he comes out and is a three-down back week one? No.
