NFL Draft Breakdown: AFC Winners & Losers

Be still my heart. Yes. When a player that we love gets drafted in a situation that we love. But this was breaking my heart. I literally said on the pre-draft show, the one place I will be sad if Markey's Brown goes. Sometimes you go to Hollywood and you become a big star. Sometimes you go there and you work at Universal Studios waiting tables. Yes. Markies Brown, not a big winner. Here comes King Kong.

Lamar Jackson was. Lamar Jackson was a winner in this draft. Huge. Two big weapons in the first three rounds, Marquis Brown, Miles Boykin, two receivers that I really love. Lamar Jackson love every opportunity to improve on those passing numbers, passing attempts. There will be opportunity for Hollywood Brown in this offense. What are we talking about fantasy wise? Three or four catches a game.

That's what you're probably talking about with Hollywood. And the nice thing is if he takes one across, you know, the formation, he can take it to the house. I would say another loser in this draft is C.D. Lamb, his speedy small teammate at Oklahoma who will come out next year in the draft, and they'll be like, oh, see those tiny guys, they might not work out.

I feel bad. I feel like another loser's... Wow, you're calling for the future draft stock of his teammate. Yes, the 170-pound wide receiver. See, I'm not... Let's say Marquis Brown goes out. It doesn't do anything of no, you know, it can't get the accurate deep passes from Lamar Jackson. That hurts the future stock of all these tiny wide receivers. I don't agree. How about that? Then I disagree with you. Here's why, because you're... If you would want to make that argument about...

Fantasy players won't have faith in little receivers or something. That's fine because I don't think Marquis Brown is going to set the world on fire for fantasy. But he's going to be great for Lamar Jackson. And that's just going to validate the little receiver because he's going to come out. I think Baltimore, they were a team that was competitive last year. You had the most dynamic receiver in the draft. It's going to help them win games. I think it is good for Baltimore and for Lamar Jackson. It's good for CD. We'll see. We'll see. I mean, the whole point.

is really like if Baker had come out and stunk it up this year. Yes. If he just failed and fizzled and it wasn't good. That'd be bad. I don't believe Kyler Murray is the number one pick in this year's draft. So are you then predicting Marquis Brown is going to come up and stink it up? Because that's what you're saying. Well, that's the thing. I mean, he's hyper talented, but this is the worst situation of all 32 teams that he could have landed in. So I think he's going to have a bad year, yeah. I don't think it's the worst situation. Because I think you, you can come in and be the one from day one. But even if you're the one. That's a cool opportunity. So here.

Yes, there's going to be rookie improvement, but just a snapshot of what Lamar Jackson actually did in the games that he started. So he started seven games of the regular season. His pace for a full year is 210 completions, just over 2,500 yards and 11 touchdowns. I don't think he ever passed 200 yards. Did he? Maybe one time? One time he hit 204. I understand that.

But I don't want to, me personally, I don't want to overemphasize the projected season on a rookie quarterback, taking over an offense from Joe Flacco, leaning on what he's great at that you don't need to have a ton of training camp and practice with the first team with, which is taking the ball and running. I think there's opportunity for improvement. So I'm not saying he will be amazing. But you would need. But you have to give a guy an opportunity to get better in year one to year two because no rookie quarterbacks go out and throw for a ton of yards.

Sure, but I'm saying the jump that you need from 2,500 yards and 11 touchdowns, you need a very, very large... Did you stat out Hollywood Brown already? I did. All right, let's take a look at this, because we're in the throngs of our full team-by-team projections. In fact, I believe that was the quick question of the day, and Jason, while we pull that out, maybe you can illuminate, somebody asked, well, what process do you go through?

So the ultimate draft kit, you know, we come out early with our rankings where like a lot of people do, we look at the players we like and we sort them around and order them. Those are pointless to me. Those are fun little nuggets to talk about. But when we are prepping for the ultimate draft kit, we go through and we stat every single player on every single team. We're looking at the quarterback and how the target distribution works.

from position to position, from within the position group. We make sure things make sense. We can't, you know, have our wide receivers on a team projected for 40 touchdowns and the quarterback's projected for 30. That wouldn't make any sense whatsoever. So we really take a look at a ton of different things. But then we go and look at our rankings and we actually get a much different order. Sometimes it's very surprising to ourselves, but much more accurate. It's part of how we have...

historically had such good, accurate rankings in the fantasy pros competition. It's because we are truly statting out 2019. It takes a very long time. It does. It's grueling. So I guess this would be to the point of Marquis Brown not having fantasy value, I don't have them projected for a ton of points. I haven't projected for a pretty good yard per reception. I haven't projected under 40 receptions on the year. As do I. I'm at 37 receptions.

610 yards, four touchdowns. A handful of rushing attempts. That's very, very comparable to me. I have him, I have him statted out for 92 points and a half point PBR. Ninety-point? I'm hired in that. I'm at about 115. But I just think he's a difference maker on the offense. But you're right. It's going to be one predicated on Ingram. Lamar Jackson's rushing. Just saying, so for all the Baltimore people, like, hey, don't grab on my team. You're going to win.

It just stinks for fantasy football. That's what we're saying. Let's talk about Justice Hill. That's what I was going to say. Well, then say it. I was going to say we need to talk about Justice Hill before we move on. Very, very fast running back. I was not in love with this film. He didn't seem to have a lot of shiftiness or moves, but if you could open up a hole.

and get him going through it, it's going to be very difficult to catch him. I think it's actually a pretty good matchup for a team that wants to run the ball so much that has a quarterback so good at running where when you do the run-pass option with Lamar Jackson, if they bite on Lamar Jackson and that linebacker comes in and Hill has a five-yard head start, then he could be really successful. That being said, Mark Angram, the starter signed this offseason. Gus Edwards is still there, Kenneth Dixon.

I think the opportunity for Justice Hill, what they want to do with him is going to come in the passing game. I agree. I think he will have an opportunity to showcase whether or not he has skills. I actually projected him with the second most receptions out of that backfield behind Mark Ingram. I don't know how you projected him. I have him just ahead of Mark Ingram. Justice Hill is the reason that Mark Ingram was a loser in the draft to me. Okay. Third downs. What you were very excited for for Ingram is that he can do everything. He could be a three-down running back. But they have...

a guy who could specialize for the team in the past catching game. His sophomore year, he had 31 receptions. He had 13 the following year. So he has that in his profile. So it was a little bit disappointing for Ingram. Sounds like we had the same thought on him. And shout out to Trace McSorley. He was drafted as the backup quarterback. And I just got to say like, congratulations, because you became an NFL quarterback. I can't believe it.

I mean, I can't believe it. The last couple of years. It's so mean. But it's true. I'm giving him a shout out. I'm congratulating. I don't think he would like it. The dude is an NFL quarterback.

And I'm a man. I mean, good for you, man. I believe you were McSorily mistaken. Yeah, exactly. That's what he'll say. But when it gets done with you. The last two years, looking at Saquan film and look at a Miles Sanders film, half of my notes are just, man, that quarterback sucks. Wow. Winners and losers from the draft for the Cincinnati Bengals. They spent the first two picks, offensive tackle and a tight end. Look, Joe Mixing got help up front. Excellent. Andy Dalton got help up front. And the wide receiver core got no competition. So guys like, obviously you already knew AJ Green was locked and loaded. But it looks like you're going to have real opportunity for the incumbents. Yep.

Yeah, I actually think I know that they took a quarterback in the fourth round, Ryan Finley, but I still see Andy Dalton as a winner because similar to Derek Carr, there were a lot of rumblings. They were sharing a modium during the draft. They were both worried about the diarrhea sweats. And yeah, I mean, you didn't get one of the big name quarterbacks going there that is going to challenge this year for a starting spot. My only loser from the draft would be Gio Bernard. And if you're talking long term of him being a Cincinnati Bengal.

Took two running backs in the sixth round, both guys who, Trayvion Williams has prolific production. Rodney Anderson surely would have been a higher draft pick, not for his very massive injury history, but between those two guys, I think they will have their backup for the future. And speaking of the wide receiver core not addressed in the draft, they did sign Nebraska wide receiver Stanley Morgan, who also runs an investment firm. Yeah.

But Kyle, he is very physically responsible. He's getting me quality 5% returns. My muni ladders are out of control.
