NFL Draft Breakdown: AFC Winners & Losers

The Buffalo Bills. The Buffalo Bills went out and further muddied the running back waters in the NFL draft. Very strange. Devin Singletary, one of the players that was kind of a combined disappointment, highly productive in college, lands in Buffalo.

They came out and they affirmed LaShawn McCoy as the starter on this team. The team also has Frank Gore, has T.J. Yeldin. I believe they're trying to unlock an achievement. If you have five running backs that could all play, I think you get a bonus point or something like that. 25 to your gamer score. Oh, okay. Is that what it is? Yes. It's on Madden. How do people feel about Devin Singletary, the selection here? It's a third round pick. It seems like...

LaShaul McCoy is not long for the Buffalo Bills, even if he is the primary guy this year. Frank Gore's not long for the NFL. Singletary could be a meaningful piece in a couple of years. Yeah, I was really hoping Singletary went to a team that had an offensive head coach. He did not, but he did go to a team that has the player he is most commonly comped to in front of him. Devin Singletary earned a lot of LaShawn McCoy comps. So if they're looking at him as a LaShawn McCoy replacement, because they know they can't have LaShawn McCoy.

Winners and losers from the draft. I mean, all the running backs lose from the selection of a high draft capital running back. You already didn't really feel confident with McCoy or any of those guys. We just talked about the mess there. I do think by midseason, you'll probably have a guy you can start in Buffalo. I do believe that. That being said, their quarterback, Josh Allen, he runs the ball a lot himself. Was he a winner in this draft? You know, they got Cody Ford is a good tackle in the draft. I like him.

So that helps. I mean, Buffalo did not have a good offensive line last year. So, yeah, I would say he's an upgrade. I would say Robert Foster was a winner in this draft. Robert Foster is basically lined up outside at this point, locked in. They could have gone with another wide receiver to compliment John Brown, Cole Beasley. Foster should start. And I think that matters. Foster's a burner. He had some good report Josh Allen last year. Any other players, any other losers on this roster because of the draft?

No, we'll just, we'll see if Shady's on the team when the league years starts. You think there's still a season starts? The question. I do. All right, the Miami Dolphins, the Miami Dolphins did acquire Josh Rosen in a trade. And one of the more interesting things that I have paid attention to is whether or not Ryan Fitzpatrick will actually be on this roster. Ryan Fitzpatrick had very, very minimal, guaranteed money.

And there is an argument to be made that while he signed an 11-year two-year deal, 11 million two-year deal, only 1.5 million was guaranteed in that deal. And there's a train of thought that they need to put Rosen out there for the duration of the season to see what they have as to whether or not they have to draft a quarterback. He would still be a $7 million dead cap hit if they cut him. Not if they trade him. Sure. And there's potential for injury, things like that.

If you read what's going on in Miami, there have been some talk about this. The team would rather see what they have in Josh Rosen because they could be in contention for Tua or some of the top quarterbacks next year. They probably will be. Yeah, Josh Rosen's getting traded next year. Well, not if he performs. If he shows something on the field. I mean, if they have a top three pick next year, Josh Rosen is getting trade because they're going to take one of these top quarterbacks from next season.

That's my belief. As far as who was really helped this year in Miami, no. Kenyon Drake. Everyone who was there. Kaylon Belage, any of the court. All of the wide receivers and running backs that you thought weren't good enough this year to start in Miami will be starting. Trust the process. Yeah, but we're not. I mean, are you drafting any wide receiver? Albert Wilson, I'll take a flyer on.

It's hard for me to say that because he's coming back from the injury. I get it. But this is Flyer. This is my last positional pick. That's fair. What's that? I said he'll be there. Yeah. I think Kenyon Drake has a pretty solid year based on the fact that they didn't go out and find somebody else to, you know, him and Belange. Is it all it's going to be? You still are on Team Drake? I'm on Team Drake. I'm on Team Blanche, but I'm on Team Drake to start the year for sure. Okay. Both guys will probably have an opportunity.

I would say Ryan Fitzpatrick lost. If he's on the roster and he's starting, he didn't get any other weapons. So it's going to be, the over unders in Vegas, the win totals. I took the under with Miami. Yeah. I've done it before and they failed, though. They failed, you know. They failed by winning too many games. Correct. They failed me. You're such a disappointment. That's right. Winner. I think Dolphins fans, unlike years past, they know what they're in for this year.

Certainly, certainly. They have a plan. They want 2020 to be their coming back. Dolphins. I have a plan. Yes. Is that Gettleman? It involves Tahiti. What if Dave Gettelman took over as the commissioner of the National Football League is something? Oh, my good. What kind of stuff would happen? With the third pick. Come on. It's me, Dave. I draft myself. Daniel Jones. How many running backs are in this draft? I take them all. We're moving on. The New York.

Jets, the New York Jets, winners and losers that you take away from this draft a tackle in the first round and end in the second round, or I'm sorry, in the third. It's the same thing as the Dolphins. They went pretty much status quo. I mean, they took a tight end in the fourth round, but it's still hernded in, locked in to be the up-and-comer at that position.

And there was word, whispers from the bushes that the Jets were trying to trade up for me, Cole Henderson. What about Harmon? Harmon. Thank you. I won Daryl Henderson and me Cole and the same player. But the Chiefs beat him to the punch. So we know at least that the Jets wanted to add some speed. They weren't unable to do so. So I think that Robbie Anderson and Quincy and Numa are the big winners. I don't really care about Crowder. Would you have liked to see them add somebody else for Donald's sake?

Uh, I mean, when you're talking, you're adding a 4-3 wide receiver. Sure, I would like to see that happen, but I think that their wide receiver core is definitely competent enough for moving forward. All right, let's move on to the New England Patriots who had nine picks in the first five rounds, seven in the first four, and spent the first one for the second year in a row on an offensive player last year with Sonny Michelle in the first round. This year with the final pick, Nikiel Harry.

You jerks. And Nickyah, yeah, we jerks because the Cardinals had the next pick and we wanted to keep them here in Arizona. Yeah, I will say I'm okay with it because at least you kept McKeel Harry fantasy relevant. Nickle Harry, a winner to me. Big time. A huge winner. Big time. With how many wide receivers went to questionable landing spots as rookies, Nikiel Harry ends up in New England with a plethora of opportunity. You have Julian Edelman.

No one really on the outside. Hogan is gone. Grankowski, a red zone threat, gone. McKeel Harry could have very solid impact. McHughry could have 10 touchdowns. Yeah, and McHill Harry, people have pointed out how good he is from the slot. And if they're losing Grunk, who's running from the edge or in, you know, that slot area, they could end up deploying him downfield often like they did with Grunk. I think it's a great landing spot for him. I also think it's a good landing spot.

as far as for the player, more than a lot of people do, for Damien Harris, the running back out of Alabama. But that is not good news to me for Sony Michelle. I looked up the splits between Sony Michelle when Rex Burkhead was active and playing and when Rex Burkhead wasn't. And they are almost double. I mean, when Rex Burkhead was gone, Sony got a ton more work. Obviously, Sony has the knee issue. Did you contextualize those for when Sony was like. No, so I realized. Yeah, I don't.

Go ahead. I realize it was a rookie season. He's still getting into the flow of things. So later in the year, they're using him differently with or without Blurkhead than they would have. Was that Blurkhead? Blurkhead. But the point is. Oh, Blurkhead. Paul Blurkhead. Oh, no. But the thing is, is I think Damon Harris comes in. How much were you excited for Rex Burkhead?

last season, the season before that. The season before that very last season, moderately excited. But you were talking about how, you're calling him a mall cop. You were talking last season about how he was a red zone option and he was very good in the red zone and that they would use him in replacement of Sony. I think that they're going to have a good one to punch with Damien Harris and Sony, but that's not good news for the people like Andy, you've been all about Sony.

up until the draft. I don't know if it's changed for you or not, but you were talking Sony as pretty much a low-end one. No, it hasn't changed for me, really. The confidence they showed in Sony on their path to a Super Bowl last year was what I needed to see. My excitement for him was based on that. I don't read much into the splits. One, because Burkhead has been very inconsistently available to the Patriots in general, and two, because rookie running backs should take time to be involved, and he was hurt. But do you read into a third round running back?

Seven picks in the first four rounds, not as much. I think Damien Harris is a really good player, Mike. You and I both like him. Yes, he's excellent. That being said, I think you have to have depth for Sonny Michelle. Sonny Michelle was banged up last year. He was hurt multiple times. You had depth. You had the mall cop. Blurkhead? Who wants Blurkehead? He's on his segue. He's on his segue. He has never been healthy. Look, because he doesn't use the segue. Can we get a petition that Rex Blurkehead is allowed to use a segue on the field?

Remember when he was goathead? Now he's Blurkhead. I'm not sure there's a worse name than Blurkhead. There's not. When I say it, it makes me really sad. Yeah. You feel stupid. Damien Harris is pretty good. This podcast sucks. All right. Any other winners and losers you want to call out from the offensive side of the ball? Well, I mean, Brady. Because he gets to kill Harry, but not enough that I want Tom Brady anywhere near my fantasy teams.

All right, the Denver Broncos used their first draft pick on Noah Fant. Oh, yes. Heralded, athletic, tight end. We know that Joe Flacco adores throwing the ball to as many tight ends as possible. Or just one. Just one. If he could throw it to two on one play, he would. He would. But I think you're referencing when Dennis Pitta shockingly led the league at the tight end position and receptions. Yes. Yeah, I mean, you've seen that.

Does no offense start from day one? Does he have an opportunity in the passing game? Probably. Yes. Yes to all of the above. Sutton and Hamilton didn't get any competition. Six round wide receiver. That was it out of Colorado, Joanne Winfrey. But basically the incumbent, Sutton, Hamilton, Freeman and Lindsay, that's going to be your offense in Denver this year. And I will say this. I know Drew Locke fell in the draft isn't great, but from a dynasty perspective,

I do like the fact. I think Drew Locke could be groomed into a decent player. I don't, I'm not calling that he will be, but at least there's something behind Flacco. Because my worry for Sutton, my worry for Deshaun Hamilton has been, look, I don't think Joe Flacco is going to be the answer. And so in Dynasty, where they've got good value as second year wide receivers, I've been more down on them. I like that there's at least someone there now.

All right, let's move on, Kansas City. This will be a fun one to talk about. Who could have been a big winner for the Kansas City Chiefs? I believe. Meiko Hardman. I was going to say, Jason and I want to talk about Mikul Hardman. I would love to talk about it. We'll save your Damien Williams victory lap of sorts, whatever you want to call it, even if it's warranted.
