Fantasy Football Podcast for Week 8/9

maybe Trey Mason like Flash in the Pans potentially. Mason was one of the top signings last week. Now he looks like he's stuck inside of a pretty bad RBBC. So top few guys here. I'm going to read you the top five names off of this waiver list. I want you to put them in order for me. Okay. Brandon LaFelle, Jonathan Stewart, Alan Robinson, Bobby Rainey.

and Charles Sims. Okay, of this list, LaFelle is going to top my list. The news broke maybe 20 minutes ago. DeAngelo's playing for the Panthers, and he's starting. So, Stuart, probably. He looked good last week. He did look, he looked good. I would assume that these people were weighing in on waivers before they knew for sure if DeAngelo was coming back. Fair. So second, I would actually go.

I would be torn between Sims and Rainey. Now, Sims is a rookie. He was a later round draft, later round pick. And, I mean, he hasn't played at all. He also has not, I don't know how much practice he's gotten in. But is Lovie Smith really ready to say, hey, rookie, you know, get in there? And Bobby Rainey, when he's been given the,

Workhorse position has produced pretty good fantasy numbers. He's had a couple. He has some ball security issues. But you know who else has ball security issues? DeMarco Murray. No one cares either. Get over yourself. No one cares. Just because you're running back fumbles a couple times. If he's doing great, you don't kill him by putting on the bench. I'm talking to Lovie Smith. Oh, I thought you were talking to. No, Belichick. No. Oh, him too. What I'm just saying? Look at, look what Murray's doing. Yeah.

He's lost five fumbles already. Yeah. Well, you saw it in the post-game interview with Garrett yesterday, too. Garrett, like, barely had a negative thing to say about it. He actually was, it was probably to the detriment of DeMarco Murray owners that he didn't condemn the fumbles a little bit more because he was just kind of like, yeah, he, you know, he runs pretty aggressively and, you know, he's a beast. You just, you have, to me, that's some of the stuff that you just have to take if you're going to get all that good.

Well, you still expect the guy to improve upon it. I mean, whether you're Tiki Barber or, you know, Tiki Barber had a problem like that, too. So did Peterson. You know, you do get concerned more so towards the end of games. Yeah. But, yeah, so if you had to start one of these five this week, who do you start? Oh, LaFell. Brandon LaFell. Absolutely. He's a target of mine in quite a few of my leagues where I need a wide receiver. So let...

And we talked about Alan Robinson. Let's read a couple more guys on here. Jonas Gray. He's another name that you might or might not know. He is the running back that took over the big back role from New England. And I was trying to remember why didn't we talk about him last week. And it's because the, was that the Thursday game? The week before the Thursday game. I don't know. I don't know why we didn't talk about him because I actually, it's a secret. Don't tell anyone. Okay.

I'm in a league, and my wife is in the league. That is a secret. I'm running her team. Don't tell any of those other people? Don't tell the rest of the league. She's doing really well. And what's funny about it is my team is awful. I'm one in seven in that league. Don't admit that. Is your wife beating you? Oh, my wife just beat me this week, handedly. So I guess I beat myself.

But I snuck Jonas Gray on her team before Sunday. So that was one of those, I feel so smart because I grabbed Gray right before he had a bunch of kids. You mean she grabbed Gray. Oh, yeah. I mean. Shh. Yeah. That's funny. Yeah, Jonas Gray is a guy.

He's Stephen Ridley now. I was going to say he's a guy that you play in games. You think the Patriots are going to run the ball in. Exactly. I don't like him this week, for example. I can't remember. What's the match? Denver. Oh, no, no. This is the type of game where Shane Marines on the field. You also saw James White get some carries. Which is exactly why you should play Jonas Gray. Right, right, yeah. But I like him if you need a back.

Lorenzo? To me, he's the... Honestly, Lorenzo is back on the top of my waiver list. Yeah, I'm surprised he's so low. Because of long-term value. Teleferro is two touchdowns this week. Came in, the reports from the coach after the game were positive on Telefiero. So I don't think it's going to change. Another guy that I was impressed with, just with my eyes. Is it the next guy in the list? It's not. Okay, we'll get back to him. Yeah, we'll get back to him. The guy...

that impressed me this week is Devante Adams. Because he caught everything thrown his way, and he looked like a guy that Rogers depended on. Now, he was the beneficiary of a kind of... Of Jordy getting blanketed. A Jordy dud game, yeah. But it just shows how valuable Adams will be moving forward if Cobb or Jordy goes down. And perhaps still flashing the pan like James Jones used to be. Now, he's not as much of a red zone threat, but he does score touchdowns.

A guy that will give you a really good game every once in a while. So do you want to count on him? No, but if you are going into the playoffs with one of those other. And you have Coburnet. We've talked about this, I think, every week. So pick him up if he's there. You could do much worse. It's strange to handcuff a wide receiver. But when the receiver is going to get the ball from Aaron Rogers, it changes everything.

Martavis Bryant was the guy I wanted to talk about Pittsburgh. Okay, let's talk about him and Marcus Wheaton in the same breath. Okay, so they basically shared snaps. I saw he played 33 of 80 or something snaps. Yeah, a lot of snaps when you have a game like that. Bryant, we're talking about. He's a fourth round rookie. And clearly, if you didn't notice Big Ben had the game of his career.

With 500 yards, six touchdowns. I put a little bit of... Yeah, I mean, that throws a little bit of... So that skews things. However, what the takeaways from the game when I was watching, it looks... And it's funny because it's following the same path as last year where the Steelers towards the second half of the year. It's like Big Ben just gets fed up with Haley's play calls. And he says, enough of you. You get on the sidelines and stay over there.

And I will take care of the offense. And they were going no huddle. And it looked like Big Ben was in charge. Yeah. Which is what happened last year when Big Ben really became productive. So perhaps they had forgotten that that worked so well. But it just in the way that Wheaton has been playing, I know he's had a couple productive games. I was productive this last game. He was too. But it. Two touchdowns, I think. Bryant has now had.

No, I think Wheaton had won. Okay. Maybe. Because Bryant had two, Brown had two, Miller had one. That's a lot of touchdowns. And Wheaton had one. And Wheaton had one. So I think Bryant's going to be the guy going forward. And there was a little blurb. That's he'd rather have a weird. There's a little blurb that came out that's from Pittsburgh. Tomlin was saying he thinks that Brian, you know, it just could be coach speak, but I think Bryant's going to be the guy going forward. He might still be splitting some snaps.

perhaps this week, but it's not going to take long until it's going to be Bryant and Brown. Yeah, so is there anybody else that jumps out? I mean, a question for you is, is Big Ben a top 10 startable quarterback here on out? Isn't that literally the hardest question you could be asked in fantasy football anymore? It's ridiculously hard because his ebbs and flows are so extreme. But if they...

You have to imagine they take to heart. And this was against the Colts. Solid defense. Who were historic, I mean, over the year. They've been a great defense. What's his face? Cornerback. Who's their good quarterback? Vante Davis. Davis. Davis got hurt in the game. So you have to factor that in. However, you would think the Steelers watched the film and go, now why was this so successful? I just, I think.

You put Big Ben in the same category as Flacco. Flacco had a five touchdown game two weeks ago. He had a zero touchdown game. The difference between Rogers, Breeze, luck, those guys is they don't have off games. Oh, I'm not calling him. No, I know you're not, but I'm just saying if somebody in your league is jumping all over, he wants to trade you for Big Ben. I say trade Big Ben. Oh, yeah. If you can get something good, sure, why not? Don't count on six touchdowns, everyone. Any other thoughts or should we...

Move on. No, let's move it on. Starts of the week. We're starting to hit home runs in this section. We are. If you're listening to the Fantasy Footballers podcast every week, you're getting starts of the week that most of these are hitting. Yes. And we did pretty well. And once again, these are not obvious starts. We are not saying, Aaron Rogers is my start of the week. No, we're trying to pick guys out that they might be on.

They might be on your bench. Yeah, or even the waiver wire. And you're torn between some people. So we haven't done this before. But I thought we should actually, let's have some humility. Accountability. Humility and accountability. Yeah. And talk about our starts of the week and how they did last week. All right. Let's go through these. I'll go through years real quick. Okay. And you can go through mine.

Your start of the week at quarterback was Ryan Tannahill. He actually had a disappointing game, I would say. For his matchup, he did. For his matchup, he didn't kill you, but he was just under 200 yards in a touchdown. Jerich McKinnon was your... He didn't... Look at you. You got to qualify it. Yeah, well, I was just saying he didn't get the second touchdown, which is really disappointing. But when your defense scores two defensive touchdowns, it really changes. No excuses, Mike.

Yeah, oh. It's been excused. Jerich McKinnon, I would say disappointing as well, simply because he didn't. Yeah, I mean, he was 16 for 83. He certainly got all the bulk of the carries.

Still an okay start. Just didn't score. Just didn't score. Sammy Watkins was your start of the week. That was a big home run. He had a monster game. Should have been even bigger. Should have been bigger had he not been a rookie and danced his way into that. He went to Sean Jackson. Yeah. So Jeremy Witten was your tight-in start. Hit a home run on that one. Absolutely good game. Touchdown. Long touchdown. I saw that. It was nice. You still have him written down as Jeremy Witten. So that's pretty funny.

And then you had the Texans defense. Which they were good. They weren't Buffalo or Miami this week. Yeah, there you go. All right. And then let's hold you accountable, my friend, my co-host. I didn't have as good of a week as you, I don't think. No, but let's see. So Carson Palmer was a slam dunk. There you go. 329 with two touchdowns. So he was great. Joach Bell, 14 for 39, and 2 for 22 in the air.

Now this one is where it's... They were down 21-0. Yeah, why did this happen? Because they were down 21-0. So Theo Riddick came in and they were going to scat-back. Doug Baldwin versus Carolina, he would 6 for 61, which is a... Yeah. If that's your flex guy, you're okay, I suppose. Your tight end was Owen Daniels. Hey, this is Tuesday, man.

Nobody knew he wasn't going to play. And the Ravens tricked us all where they just said, oh, no, he's missing practice. I would call that a miss. If you started him, you suck. And then Friday, like, oh, no, he had a knee scope. That's why he's not practicing. Why would you not just say that? It's frustrating. And you went on a limb. Yeah. And you took the jaguars versus the dolphins. And the jaguars, they were actually okay.

They were just, I think, a couple points behind the Texans. Did okay last week. Yeah, they were startable. All right, let's see who we got this week. Who's your quarterback? My quarterback. It's pretty bold. I'm taking my bearded brethren. Fitzmagic. Ryan Fitzpatrick. Ryan Fitzpatrick. He was 227 with a touchdown. He is playing Philadelphia. Now, why am I doing this? Why am I streaming this? Philadelphia has given up multiple touchdowns in all but one game.
