Fantasy Football Podcast for Week 9/10

What happens? Third time is a charm. He's come out and he's put three consecutive solid performances together, 17 for 94, and a touchdown, a couple of catches for 10 yards. He's the guy. Yeah. He's the guy in Jacksonville, and he keeps producing at a very high clip in terms of yards per carry. I will admit defeat. You did not believe. On Denard Robinson. Which I don't blame him, but he's performed so far. The one.

uh caveats not then this is miniature this is a very miniature small aside toby gerhard actually looked like toby gerhard probably because toby gearhart belongs in a backup role maybe how he looks like toby and soby gerhardt also had that really bad injury week one and he thought he could play through it but we know that running backs can't play through ankle injuries maybe he's healed up now that he's set out the last couple weeks uh but

I'm not jumping back on the Toby Gerhardt bandwagon. I just wanted people to know that. He still exists. Yeah, he exists and he looks healthier, but it's still Denard Robinson. There'd be no reason to change back at this point. Julian Edelman, he showed up again. Yeah, he's, you know, it's hard to count on a specific receiver in New England. Yeah, especially Edelman. He had all but disappeared for a couple weeks.

um if you have him as a i would say a wide receiver three there's no doubt i'm still playing i'm throwing him in there yeah it was nice to see him involved again nine for eighty nine and a touchdown and then he had um he had a punt return touchdown so he had one of each yeah but if he's my two that's sketchy at best uh alan

showed up again for the first time, I think, since week two with another monster game. I still prefer Robinson in that passing game. Alan Robinson, yes, thank you. Mike Evans came out, seven for 124 and two touchdowns. On 11 targets, he looked the part. You're seeing a lot of these rookie wider seers actually come into their own a little bit. You saw last night Odell Beckham Jr. He looks...

He looked pretty good. He looked like the best receiver on that team. Mike Evans had his biggest game. Now Vincent Jackson wasn't ignored. He had 12 targets, but the touchdowns went to Evans in this one. Actually, the passing offense was somewhat proficient. So how do you feel about Evans knowing that they're talking about going back to Josh McCowan? Does that change how you feel about him?

Um, no, because how I feel about him is not, I'm not gung-ho just because of this performance. Right. Um, I think he is a, he's as relevant as that passing game is, which is blows with the wind a little bit. Sometimes Glennon can throw, sometimes he can't. He had a great game before he got hurt. Uh, I can't remember what his injury was, but he was, I think he missed. Wait, did he even miss the game? I don't think he missed the game, but he, he,

You could tell he was hurt. He was still hampered from it. So Evans is actually a guy that I'm starting to like more and more. And if you have the opportunity to kind of, you know, you're seeing the same thing with Sammy Watkins too. Right. Where these, you know, first six, seven games, these guys are not, they're not up speed. They're just becoming acclimated with the system. And so.

When they get the trust of the offensive coordinator, more plays called their way, those type of things. You know, I don't, I like Evans this week against Atlanta, regardless of who's starting. Yeah, you know. And he doesn't have, I mean, he's got the Redskins and the Bears as the next two games. So, yeah, take a flyer on him. I'm not going to crown him as a wide receiver two locked in the rest of the year, but he's on his way. You know, the locker room headache.

That's ironic. Yeah, see what I did there. Percy Harvin. He's the locker room migraine, they call him. 11 for 129. And with a quarterback of Michael Vick, who actually looked like a competent quarterback. So what do we do with Percy Harvin? You play him. Okay. As a wide receiver three. I mean, he, obviously, they want to get him in the mix. I don't know what he did on the ground. Did he get carries in this game? I think he at least got one. I'm going to check on that.

That's the other nice thing about him is he gets involved in some gimmicky plays. Yeah, he does do that. And they're going to use him. I mean, they need to use their toy, and he's a toy. So I thought, I think he's a wide receiver three right now, and you wait and see what they do with that running back situation. You had to expect them to use him. Why would you trade for a guy and not use him? Yeah, I thought his upside was going to be better. I mean, I said it. He's going to be better in New York than it was in Seattle.

just based on the proficiency in the offense. Yeah, it was quantity instead of quality for him. Yep. It reminds me of how they used him in Minnesota, to be honest. Yeah, that's fair. I mean, he was the first, second and third read for about a whole year, so. Yeah, he was a great fantasy player in Minnesota. Charles Clay, tight end for three golfers. Tight-in. Run downs, you want to take care of those? Yeah, five for 65 and one. He almost had a second one. I like Charles Clay. I like this resurgence because I'm on that Tannenhill bandwagon.

I've been driving that for a few weeks now, and he looked fantastic. This week is tough because they have the lions, and it's on the road. But there's a lot of teams on buy. It's bi-nato three bypocalypse week for the third time. So, Clay, you could do worse, I would say, for a bi-week filling than Charles Clay. Is this Michael or McCall?

I don't even know this Michael Rivera. It's Michael. I know Rivera, but... So he scored twice on Seattle. He's actually been targeted a lot the last two weeks by car. So he's somebody who... He's not an athletic... Athletically gifted tight-in. He actually reminds me of Brandon Myers as far as his usefulness in Oakland, but they're targeting him. So, again, another guy you could do worse with. I like Rivera more than I do guys, like Amaro. And then Chase Ford...

uh for minnesota yeah i must say tennessee uh the tied in for minnesota had five for 66 and a touchdown although the only reason i put him on the list was kyle rudolph yeah he's coming back there minnesota is on by this week the following week is rudolph's target for return and and ford has actually had uh two good weeks back to back he didn't score the last week but if this is a yeah if this is a usage yeah

of tight ending and you're it is with yeah and if you're your tight end is say he's not the strongest this this is the week to pick up rudolph you have to do it now because you're not going to get him next week and you can get him probably super cheap this week yeah and bridgewater bridge water bridge water's going to lean all over him yep so let's uh let's talk about pooped in his big boy pants

That was me frowning. Yeah, some negatives on the week. Let me come out right away and say, I don't like to admit defeat, but man, I swung and missed with Cam Newton this week. Oh. He just had an awful game, really. I mean, if you watched it, he didn't look good. He looked disconnected. He looked inaccurate. And, you know, what's funny is two weeks ago, he had one of the most accurate games of his career. And it was all over the map. And, you know, he ran the ball a little bit.

He scored? Yeah. But if he is going to throw for 150 yards in the air to these hodgepodge. And, you know, he had Jericho Kotry on a post route wide open for a touchdown. He backfooted the throw, not disciplined, not making the throws you want to see from a quarterback. And so Cam Newton had a really bad week. The, now, the reason I did not like.

uh cam newton going into the week was i knew his offensive line was in big trouble they had an undrafted rookie starting a left tackle and i think i believe it was uh four four starters are out for that for that line in that week and that's just we've seen it with matt ryan no matter how good you are as a quarterback if your line can't protect you for a three-step drop you're just you won't have success

Absolutely. Yeah. And so moving forward, because what we like to do with this section is to look at these guys that struggled this week and say, hey, do we expect that trend to continue? Do you need to make an adjustment to your lineup? What do we think about them on the way out? And so for Cam Newton, I think you have to put him in the – I'm encouraged by the amount of rushing yards he has, but you have to put him in the Can't Trust category for quarterbacks. Absolutely. He's not a guy who I'm starting until –

I feel more some confidence in that line. Philip Rivers, who we talked about, I don't know about just an enigma. To me, it's an enigma. It's the West Coast had to go to the east for an early game. The Dolphins have a fantastic defense. All those things combined. And I don't know about your scoring format, but in ours, Philip Rivers, the quarterback, finished with negative points. Not good. Chris Ivory.

Came out and laid an egg, eight for 22. More carries went to Chris Johnson this week. And more production. The savvy owner has looked at Chris Ivory's last couple weeks and saw the Fool's Gold there. Touchdown dependent. Yeah, his attempts and yards, while were more, I think they were closer to maybe 12 for 40 or so. But he was getting touchdowns. So you take those touchdowns out of those games and his...

His fantasy numbers look really similar to they did this week. Yes. I want you to wave goodbye to this next guy. Yeah, he was my running back start of the week. I thought he was going to be able to finish it off. Time to say farewell to a one, a slow Brandon Oliver. 13 for 19. Goodbye. Goodbye, my friend. Goodbye, my love. Yeah. If you've watched Brandon Oliver, it's pretty obvious that he is a...

Capable but not elite running back talent. And you have Ryan Matthews and Donald Brown back in the mix. And Brandon Oliver's fantasy relevance is gone. So I don't know if I drop him, but probably, I probably will. Yes, possible. I believe San Diego's on by this week. And people forget how good Ryan Matthews was, especially last year. And he got hurt really early in this year.

or people don't like Ryan Matthews because he's not typically in on third downs. But if you're talking about a guy who's one of those first second down guys, he's got to be at the top of the list for me. The big thing for Ryan Matthews to me is that entire offense is predicated on actually having an efficient running game. When they lost Matthews and they lost Woodhead, they got the one boost.

from Oliver against Oakland. He had two good games. He crushed the Jets too. In the second half of that game. Yeah, I think maybe he did it in the air, though. Well, my point is they got a couple of good running games, but that offense has struggled without efficient use. So they use Ryan Matthews as the point. So let's just skip this next guy. No, Ben Tate has had. Your boy. Your boy. Yeah, he's killing me. He's killing me. Your boy.

If you were a Ben Tait owner this week, you wanted to shoot yourself because... You got to read that line, man. Read that stat line. Ten carries for three yards. Now, I'm... Are you a math whiz? Well, I was just say, I'm not a very large. I'm an average-sized male. And I think you put me in pads and you give me ten attempts. I'm going to get you more than three yards. I don't know. Alex Mack is gone.

And man, does Bente look bad? He actually almost salvaged his fantasy day. He had four for 29 through the air. It's not bad. Half PPR or PPR league. And then he had a goal line carry that seemed like he was going to, you know, break the double-digit barrier and he just lost three yards. And not to mention, so let's talk about his future. Terrence West, who was a healthy scratch a couple weeks ago, was the back in the second half of the game. Mark carries.

and he scored through the air. Here's the problem with the Browns. We'll talk about West. I don't mind taking a gamble on it, but if you look, you're going to be able to find polar opposite news on every single guy in that backfield. You'll find. I don't know what I just realized. What's that? Their offensive coordinator is Kyle Shanahan.

who may have kind of inherited the trait that his father is known for in fantasy football. That is fair. Which, I mean, if you knew Mike Shanahan was always known for taking a running back from nowhere, turning in fantasy relevant, and just as quickly putting him on the bench. And now you have three capable running backs in Cleveland, but you don't have a good idea of who's going to get the bulk of the carries. Before last week,
