This episode is brought to you by State Farm. Every football fan is different. Some won't wash their lucky mustard-stained jersey until the season's over. Some insist they can't sit down on third downs and some pick their favorite team because, I don't know, just like football fandom, nobody's life is exactly the same. And that's why State Farm gets to know you, not as a policy number, but as an actual person.

We also want to thank Seat Geek, longtime partners of the show. Look, you can go out and you can buy tickets. And sometimes it feels like ticketing websites make getting to the event difficult on purpose. They're antiquated. They don't work. They're not like Seat Geek.

1:41 ↗

They're too big. They don't care about the customer experience. And look, we have the Seatgeek app on our phones. We've had it for years. It's the only way we buy tickets. It's the only way we go to games locally, the Cardinals games. Out here, we use Seek geek. I bought tickets to go to the Christmas game with my son. I bought it on Seeky. Merry Christmas to you, good sir. Yeah, it's going to be fun. And they.

With your host, Andy Holloway, Jason Moore, and Mike Wright. How? Welcome in. It's football time. Yes. Hell. The producers got in on that one. We did it. Oh. By doing something. I mean, we just survived. The calendar move forward. Time just kept moving. But we're here, baby. But here's the coolest part.

3:22 ↗

I know that the five of us in this room were not the only ones singing it's football time. The Foot Clan were along for that ride and it is football time. It's so exciting. You know what I didn't consider. If enough people are listening to this podcast, if they started at the same exact month and they all scream, it's football time, it might be strong enough to.

3:49 ↗

push the earth slightly out of orbit. I was thinking the same thing. We might have just doomed humanity. The axis is slightly off. Yes. So I apologize. I didn't know you could do that. But football time is strong with enough listeners. Today's show. It's the propulsion of the voice. We all just, we just slightly push the earth. No, it's scientific. Yes. I agree. Don't, don't look into it. Harvard graduate, right? Mm-hmm. Yeah. Today's show is.

4:18 ↗

exciting. It's jam-packed. Our starts of the week on today's episode, we're getting into the forecast, breaking down the matchups for week one. We've got news to talk about. We have never not working. We've got the boom-boom kicker. Oh, yeah. Feels like a mega. Was that an oh yeah for the boom boom? Oh, yeah. We're ready? That means his rhyme is ready. That is what it means. Get ready. Get ready. Get ready because you're ready. That's right.

4:45 ↗

Oh, my goodness. The website is switched over for week one. The StartSit tool is available. The Fantasy Footballers.com. Tons of articles each and every week. Getting you primed, getting you ready, helping you get the advantage over those dastardly ugly leaguemates of yours. Dastardly. That's a great word. Yeah, I tried it out. A little snidly whiplash. That's right. Twitter at the FF. Ballers, the community at join the foot.com. Let's get the show on the road.

Never Not Working. Presented by Head and Shoulders, Scamp Shield Technology, available at Walmart. This is going to be a very exciting segment as it is every week, trying to give you the advantage you need to guarantee success. Every fantasy player needs to be never not working, needs to be doing a little extra. Jason, take it away. Well, we are heading into week one, and rookies are exciting, and rookie wide receivers are all the rage. And now it's a question of,

5:52 ↗

Yeah, but are they? And how do we know? When do we pounce? Who can we trust? And so we took a look at kind of the ADP since 2014 of all these rookie wide receivers. Once the ADP is kind of concluded and we know exactly where they went. Average draft position. Thank you. And how they turned out relative, you know, their fantasy finish versus their wide receiver position that they were drafted in. Who hits, where they hit, where they don't. And then maybe some things to look for.

6:18 ↗

early on in the season. One of the things that stood out to me was just remembering that Tyreek Hill and J. Schuster and A.J. Brown and Terry McLaurin and Chase Claypool, these great rookie seasons, were all undrafted. Okay. So when this week one happens. Interesting. Yeah, exactly. It's not necessarily Jamar Chase. In fact, that's one of the bad news, which to me is good news. The wide receivers who have been drafted

6:48 ↗

Seventh round or earlier pretty much have not hit at all. The only one who returned just close to value was Mari Cooper back in 2015. That one is not good. But the wide receivers drafted in the kind of mid-late rounds, around seven through nine, had a pretty solid success rate on the season this year. That would be Devante Smith. That could be Jalen Waddle. Sure.

7:16 ↗

Looking at kind of the things to look for guys that stand alone and project to be a large market share, I would say that the rookie to be the most confident in going in this year to beat their average draft position would be Devante Smith. Also, this doesn't necessarily apply to this season, but one of the craziest things, it's a really small sample.

7:42 ↗

But rookie wide receivers drafted in the 10th round, if there happens to be one in the draft. They all fail. I mean, like universe. Give us the example. Like Devante Parker, Jalen Rager, Corey Davis, Corey Coleman, and Tajay Sharp were all these rookies who just sucked. Yeah, not only did they not return value, they returned a very negative value. The 10th round frown.

8:09 ↗

Yeah, the 10th round frown, as we've always said. But then you get to the 11th round and you turn that frown upside down. Yeah, and once... There you go. 11th heaven. Once you are... What is? It's a great start. We're all hyped. We're all ready to go. We're on our B game. So we want to know, okay, we've got that information, but that's done.

8:34 ↗

Week 1 happens. How long do you hold on to these wide receivers? And here's some things that you want to look for. Sam Hoppin of 4-4 did a study that averaging over 36 receiving yards per game and seeing 21% of the team's air yards. That's something to look for. We'll look for that and relay that information going forward. But my big takeaways are, you know, look at the late round and undrafted wide receivers.

9:01 ↗

who have a large percentage of routes targeted. We talked about this last week. If they're running a route, are they targeted? Because that doesn't necessarily mean they had a good fantasy week, week one, week two. But it means that they were involved when they were on the field. We will tell you about those players. We will target those players. And also, Devante Smith is going to be great. I have been rising on him. And I do wonder if there's a blind spot for Jalen Waddle in general. I mean, you draft the player with that draft capital.

9:30 ↗

you're going to use him in the offense, right? And I think because the wide receiver core in Miami is so kind of discombobulated, right? Like what is Devante Parker now? And then you have the missing week one so you don't get to see where Will Fuller is in this offense. It gets a little bit confusing, and sometimes the murkiness is what drives that average drop position to no man's land. And like,

9:57 ↗

Jalen Waddle is certainly a candidate for a breakout season if they involve him the way that they should involve a top 10 pick, right? All right, let's move forward, a reminder, get up to 100% dandruff protection. That's never not working with head and shoulder scalp shield technology available at walmart.com. News and notes from around the league presented by Sleeper. So. Hmm.

10:30 ↗

We were live on Spotify Green Room yesterday afternoon, and I'm fairly... Oh, it was delightful. It was great. It's always a good time. Hanging out, chatting. Austin Echler, that name was just in all caps, typed in the chat for an hour. People want to know what's going to happen. What do they do? Non-participant on Wednesday, it's been revealed that it was a hamstring injury. A campstring at the very last moment in time.

10:59 ↗

Are you concerned? Who do you pick up? How are you feeling about old awesome excellent? Yeah, I mean, you have to be concerned. This is a little bit too early for us to have great insight and great medical knowledge. I have not seen a report that specifies the greater, anything of that nature. It just popped up yesterday. This was last evening. We found out about it. It's possible this could be nothing. He plays Sunday and everything is good.

11:28 ↗

But, I mean, that's just not what usually happens with a hamstring injury. It doesn't just disappear in a second. If you pull your hamstring, you've got to have rest. And so at the very least right now, you need to be targeting the backups. There is, there's two guys there. I do not believe in Joshua Kelly as a talent. So if you are going to be targeting someone, I think you should be targeting Justin Jackson. You agree, Mike?

11:58 ↗

I do. Justin Jackson, yes. He has, he's been that guy several times for this team. I get that, you know, we have a new coaching staff, and so maybe they have a different take on it. Maybe they really like Joshua Kelly, but it's hard to imagine the new regime just throwing out all the tape of Justin Jackson, who's...

12:20 ↗

He has more juice than Kelly does. He's more versatile. Yeah, Jackson's a good player. He's not better than Austin Echler, but he has a very competent replacement. They have dealt with so many injuries in the backfield over the last couple of years. And the last year, I was trying to remember, you know, when Echler missed all that time, I mean, it was a knee hamstring issue for him where he missed the five or six games, whatever it was. It's one of the reasons I don't.

12:45 ↗

have muscles. I know that the... That's true. The damage... You can't get hurt if you have no muscles. No, I mean, you see this... We've seen the flexes. What is dead may never die. Maybe stop flexing everything. Yeah, and also, we're not to the start of the week yet, and this guy probably couldn't be in there because it's too obvious, but go ahead and fire up your Keenan Allen. Good call. Good call. Thank you. Chris Godwin left off the injury report. We said it yesterday. I didn't think...

13:14 ↗

you know, Godwin or Brown was anything to be concerned about. You had a, you know, a Thursday night game. Clyde Edwards-Dillars practicing in full. Curtis Samuel, this one is not great. Pulled up during a route. He doesn't feel right. It's been a long time. It's not like Curtis Samuel was out there two weeks ago, three weeks ago. It's been a long time since we've seen Curtis Samuel. You know, we were talking about, oh, he'll be, you know, he knows the offense so he can just acclimate the second he's healthy. Well, he's not healthy.

13:43 ↗

Yeah, and that's the issue is it's official. I mean, it's done. He has absolutely not helped. This is a guy I was high on. I talked him up just a couple of weeks ago. I've drafted him everywhere. I've got them in our family league. I've got them in our league of record. I think I've got him. Oh, no, I got sniped in the listener league. Ah, loser. But the reality is he's had so much time to rest and recover. The fact that right when he gets back.
