new newt mcboots on twitter has our quick question for the day okay so i feel like we need to answer this uh because it's coming from newt mcboots certainly how do you change your draft strategy for different sized leagues very simple question but uh one we get a lot sure how does the draft strategy change if you're let's say you're in an eight man a ten man a twelve man league a fourteen team league

How do you look at draft strategy? Because we kind of talk probably from the paradigm of like a 12-man league most often. In fact, our mock draft, 12-man league. When you say most often, you mean every time. That's when we're not specifying. We're always talking about a 12-man league. The differences aren't that extreme. I think sometimes they're overblown between different leagues. But I will say this. If you're in a small league, if you're in an 8 or a 10-man league, everyone's teams are going to be great.

You know what I mean? Like you... On paper. You all have superstars. Loaded. So it's really... Like my team at the end of today's draft will be an example of what an 18 team. Eight team league would look like. Well, here's the great thing. Foot Clan, you're going to get to vote on this. So once we're done, Brooks, make sure that our team to get up and that there's a poll everywhere so that I can dominate Andy in the polls. And you can have...

your pretend victory right now. I'll put Sammy Watkins down in the first round for you already, so don't worry about it. He will be worth it at the end of the year, but I'm going to let him drop to my value. However, I'm talking to Newt right now. Yes, Newt. Listen up. Boots. Yeah, and so if I'm in a smaller league, I am actually more willing to, like, first round, I would be willing to take Travis Kelsey. Because there's only Travis Kelsey Zackertz and maybe George Kittle.

at that position. At running back at wide receiver, even at quarterback. The advantage is more pronounced in a league where you have less total teams, is what you're saying. Exactly. Because I, my, the running back depth issue that is usually there in a 12 team league is less pronounced in an 8 team league. But the gap between those tight ends are there. On the flip side, if I am in a large league, a 14, 16 team league, I'm going to.

play much, much, much safer. I avoid all risk. I want to have tried and true assets, no injury risks. I'm not going to swing for the fences. And just to fill in the blanks here, what you're saying is that...

You're playing it safer because availability of fill-in players, competition on the waiver wire, depth of your bench, those type of things are affected greatly by like a 14-16-team league. Exactly. So you want to mitigate some of that risk. Also, to speak to the first point, like in a league like that, if you're in a 14-16-team leagues, only two of those teams have Zach Hertz and Travis Kelsey. The rest of the weeks, you're facing not them. Right. And you may, I mean, look.

Fantasy leagues don't go 16 weeks before the playoffs. You might not even face them in terms of Kelsey and Hertz. Your bad tight end is probably going up against another bad tight end on the reg. And I would just, you know, it's one of those things where, look, people lose their first round pick and come back and win championships. It happens every single year all the time. But it's much more difficult to do in larger leagues where the waiver wires are sparse. I agree. So yeah, play it safe.

All right, let's get into it. Jason, you are my enemy from this point forward. The fantasy footballers mock draft. All right, let me break it down. Here's what we're doing. And by the way, you can follow along with the draft visually. We're doing it on Sleeper.

It's a 12-team league, half point per reception, traditional one quarterback, two running back, two wide receiver, one flex, one tight end, and then five binge spots.

and we have decided to draft. Now, before the show started, we said, hey, we want to draft back to back. Yeah, so that I can snipe you every other round. Exactly. And we rocham-bode for who would go first. So you are drafting from the sixth spot. I am drafting from the seventh spot because you beat me in paper-rock scissors, which will be the only thing you defeat me at today. And the draft we're starting it. Is there anything else I need to say? Brooks, am I forgetting anything? Let's do it. All right.

First pick off the board. Ezekio Elliott, gone. Christian McCaffrey, number two. Saquan Barkley goes three overall. Melvin Gordon, number four, Alvin Camara, number five. And here we are, Jason, on the clock. What's going through your head? Well, there's four. This is fun. You have to reveal things to me right before I take the better player. It is really tough in the sense that, like, we do the show for you, but we're still so incredibly.

competitive competitive that I really want to win. But I'm going to say everything I'm thinking, even if I will do this thing. I mean, it's obviously going to give you great advice. But there's only four players here that are really in consideration for me. For me, I'm looking at do I want to go, DeAndre Hopkins, Devante Adams, take one of the, the top wide receivers. This is a year.

where I actually am far more willing to do that in real drafts because I think that the depth of the top tier running backs is larger this season than in the past few. And so that means in that second round, I can get a running back that I'm okay with. Tier one, tier two running backs pretty much gone. First five picks, running backs. So you're talking about there being a pretty...

similar feel to guys like David Johnson, James Connor, Joel Mixon to you compared to maybe the wide receiver position? I'm actually speaking more to the second round, like the guys like, you know, Todd Gurley is probably falling to the second round in a lot of drafts. And, yeah, Damien Williams and guys like that that you can get in the second round and they.

they have a chance to be really special. Todd Gurley's ADP, the visual that I have in my head right now, it's like the elevator. It starts at the top floor, and then like it loses the brakes a little bit, and it drops like three or four floors at a time. And then another piece of news comes out, and it drops a little further. And you don't know when the free fall is going to happen. Yeah, it's not good. So here's the thing, though. I want to win the poll at the end. And I think that the...
