Fantasy Football Podcast 2015 - SATURDAY Special: Mailbag and Listener Questions

I'm going to go with Hopkins. I'm going to take the triple threat wide receivers get locked up. That was exactly what I was thinking of. Me and you are on the same page. So your three are, which guys? Hopkins, Evans, Marty McBride. Yep. All right. Two-thirds of a consensus. The best kind? Rob from London, England wants to know, is it worth burning a late round pick on picking up someone else's handcuff?

And if so, which hand cup is most likely to get the full-time job in the event of an injury? Well, I mean, by definition, that should be all of them. So what is the answer to this question?

No, is the general answer to the question. I think that... What about, like, last year, Nile Davis, was everybody's favorite guy to grab that's somebody else's handcuff? Yeah, I think that there are certain players valuable to draft regardless of whether or not they are your handcuff. And those guys, yeah, draft them, but don't draft them because it's somebody else's handcuff. I know, I've seen so many drafts where some guy drafts them just to stop someone else from getting them. So, like, for instance, Alfred Blue, right?

Alfred Blue is a guy that, you know, if you've got Aryan Foster, maybe you want. But I don't think he's a guy that, you know, needs to be even drafted in every league where you just have to have him. And if you're targeting him, you must have something against the, you know, Arian Foster owner and never, ever, ever draft the guy thinking, I'm going to get something good from him. Because, no, you're not.

It's funny because you're actually, a lot of the times you just shoot yourself in the foot. Because what you're doing is you're drafting the guy, you're laughing about it, and then two weeks into the season, you'll hold them. You need a drafts. You need a roster spot for the waivers, and you're like, dang it, I have to drop him now. Yeah, and then the air imposter owner just picks. It's a long, long gamble. The only guy, maybe I would do be, and this just depends on the size of your bench, but James Starks.

Yeah, I like him a lot. If Eddie Lacey, who's already had a couple concussions, goes down, Starks, I think, becomes a workhorse. I am so happy to hear you say that. I know. You and James Starks are close friends. You guys are Froyo, buddies. I'm telling you, man, James Starks is a really good NFL running back. He is. He's all right. Let me tell you something, buddy. Really good NFL running backs. Don't play backup their whole career.

You do win Eddie Lacey's in front of me. Yeah, exactly. I guess. All right, podcast question here from Danger, 73. Dinger. Dinger. Yeah, I think this is, we just read a review. Yes. Danger. Yes. What's up, Dane? What's up, Dane? Is aligning a team with players that have the same buy a good or bad strategy? Obviously, you are sacrificing one lost. Don't pay attention to her. When you're drafting? Yeah.

I mean, I get like, okay, if you're going to draft like two tight ends or something, probably don't draft them on the same bi-week or something. If you're doing something like that, like I might have done in my MFL 10 league, that would be a bad strategy. But you can't change your roster. You know what's great? Don't do it. I give the advice. I give the advice. Don't make that mistake. You know why not to do it, though, because you lived it. But my advice is not don't make that mistake. My advice is completely ignore it. And then I comply.

Completely ignored it in my MFL 10 draft. It's the best ball where you can't make any additions. By the way, let me take a time out here. Some people have written in. Were you Zach Morris? Time out. Yeah, don't move. If you're watching this on YouTube, don't move. A lot of people have asked when I say MFL 10 league what I'm talking about. Some people don't know what that means. They hear other hosts talking about it. And you're both completely frozen in front of me and making this impossible to do. No, you can't blink if you're going to pull this up. My face hurts. MFL 10 leagues are.

My Fantasy League.com leagues, their best ball leagues. You draft them and then you never update your roster for the remainder of the season. And so you're drafting like 20 players. I'm trying my best to get through this. You draft like 20 players.

All right, time in. Oh. You draft like 20 players and you don't change your roster. Certain amount of guys start, certain amount of guys sit. So if in my instance, one of my leagues, I happen to draft two tight ends that have the same bye week, I'm getting no points for tight end that week. Whoopsies. Yeah, if you're in a league that you don't change roster and it just goes from draft, then by weeks are actually really, really important. You've got to line them up. You should look at them throughout your roster and have that be more than a tiebreaker. But I completely agree with you in a normal draft.

Don't use it as anything but a tiebreaker. And don't go in with the strategy of thinking, I'm going to get all the guys who got the week seven buy, and I'll just sacrifice that week. I've thought that. Like, I remember a decade ago I tried that when I was a fool. And then I, you know what? I realized, not all my guys are on week seven. I still have buy weeks all the time. And, and I lost some of those weeks. And then I just got crushed in week, whatever. Don't do it. Yeah.

Fair advice. Adam from Milwaukee wants to know. He says he loves this show. He's been putting in hours of mock drafts. Hopefully you've been doing that on fantasy draft wizard.com. You'd be doing minutes. Wow. Or he's done 15,000 mock drafts. Yeah. Yeah, he said hours of mock drafts. And he's hoping he's hoping he's going to earn his first fantasy title.

Oh, which is just fantastic. In season, and you will. Because if you're like Mike and you win a fantasy title, it lasts all year long to the detriment to your league mates. You can never, ever take away a championship. I could come in last place till the end of time, but I still got titles. He's got a really good question. Who's your comeback player of the year? And he says, and in case you're considering it, please spare everyone by leaving Doug Martin out of the conversation. Don't even worry about it. I got mine.

Andrei Johnson. I got mine. Love Andre Johnson bouncing back in Indianapolis this year with the guiding hand of Andrew Luck. Mine is Vincent Jackson. Oh, I love it. I think that he actually had a decent year last year. He had plenty of targets. Yeah, he had plenty of targets. He just didn't catch touchdowns, and he normally does. He batted them down. He hit him down on the ground. Yeah. And he's got a guy coming in that's going to be targeting the veteran.

Mike's is Amir Abdullah. So let's go on. No, no, no. My guy, and when I say comeback, I'm not saying he's going to be turning to an elite player again. Sure. Just bounce back. Dwayne Bow on the Browns. Interesting. I like it. He's got a guy who can finally air it out unlike the Alex checkdown. You heard it here for somebody who believes he's not washed up other than the Cleveland Browns.

Me and the Browns were... That's a good company. Nick, Nick from California. Hey guys, the show's awesome. I'm in a 10-team regular scoring league. We get to keep one player as our first pick. I'm torn between Demarius Thomas or Antonio Brown as my keeper. A little more information is that in round two he'll be pick number seven on a snake draft. Give me some advice. Thanks in advance. Oh, man. This actually doesn't really matter too much if it's PPR because D. Thomas is a...

is a PPR machine as well. Oh, man. I'm going, I got to go with Brown because he's higher in my rankings. That's literally all you can do. I'm going to pull out a quarter and I'm going to flip it up in the air. And if it lands on D. Thomas, that's what I'm taking. And is the floor with Antonio Brown in PPR. Did we say if this is PPR or not? No, we don't know. He didn't say. He's regular scoring. Keep Antonio Brown. Keep Antonio Brown. Keep Antonio Brown because you know his quarterback situation next year. And if it's a keeper league and you end up wanting to keep that guy, go ahead and keep Antonio Brown.

You agree with that? I'll use that as a tiebreaker, but I would go D. Thomas if you're only taking them this year. Okay, fair enough. This question comes in from Frank, from Worcester. The tank? I don't know if it's the tank. Here's the deal. If you're from a place called Warchester...

You're a tank. You better be bringing Frank the tank. I was just thinking about the sauce. Worsesire sauce. I was going to put it. I can never say that. Worsesire. Please. If you, if you sell that sauce, don't hire us. Yes. I mean, but seriously hire us to be here. How do you say it? Warchester. No, it's not, it's not where he lives. How do you say Worcestershire? Worcestershire. Worcestershire?

Oh, man. Worcesters dryer. All right. Move it along. Yes. Love the podcast. He has the ninth pick, and he's looking to go wide receiver, wide receiver with his first two picks. However, there are no real standouts at picks 29 and 32. Should I look to trade those two? Or are there any other guys that you really like at those picks? He's high on four set, but he don't think he will be there. He don't think. That's really good English by me.

He doesn't think he'll be there. High and Forset. No, I don't think he'll be there either. So 10-team, half-point PPR league. No, okay, hold on. 10-team at pick 29? Yeah. He'll be there. Yep, he'll be there. So you agree with the strategy? He'll be there. He'll be there. I'm fine with it. If you think you can get Justin for set, that's spectacular. And Frank Gore as well as a guy I'd be targeting there. All right. Let's move on. Yeah, that's good. Gore, I like him too. Yeah, he'll be there too.

Brent from Mobile, Alabama. He says, hey guys, love the podcast. He especially likes it when he has to do paperwork. There's an amazing amount of people. We make people do paperwork? No, we don't make them. We make their paperwork better. Oh. Yeah. And in general, a lot of commutes have been improved from my understanding. His question is a simple one. He says he has the 14th overall pick in a full point PPR 14-team league.

So his question is about draft strategy. Would you go running back, wide receiver with the first two picks? Or go a different route? Go running back, running back. He says he knows he has to nail the first four picks. So any insight would help. I agree with you. When you draft later in the draft, you really have to nail those picks because you don't have the luxury of an AP or Lacey or Foster sitting at the top of the draft. So got to make the right pick. He does say it's a league that gives six points per touchdown for quarterbacks.

So, what do you do? 14 team? It is a 14 team league. I probably split them myself. Oh, I strongly consider going RBRB with. Wow. Really? Yeah, in 14. At the 14th spot? Yeah. I would consider it. Oh, I would strongly not consider it personally. I just feel like this. Would you split it then?

Yeah, I mean, for me, at the 14 spot in a 14 team, I definitely am going to at least take one wide receiver because I believe there, you'll still have one of those wide receiver one who could finish at number one. I would consider taking two of those. I would consider splitting it. I would also consider at that point. In a 14 team, you'd consider waiting?

On running backs and not drive to one running back? Yeah. Okay, let's say you're a pick 14. CJ Anderson and Jeremy Hill are on the board. Oh, I would take both those guys. Those are the kinds of guys I'm talking about. I'm not saying, oh, I'm going to grab Alfred Morris and Jonathan Stewart right there. If those two guys are there, then I take them. I just, I don't see those two guys being there in a 14 team. 14 team leagues.

generally speaking, are more serious as well. And so you've got a lot of guys, I think that running backs go more premium in those. So I don't know. I would... I bet at least one of those guys will be there. And I would think that another elite option, or very good RB1 will be there. Hmm.
