Fantasy Football Podcast 2016 - Two QB Mock Draft Episode

pick. It's a really important pick and it looks really ugly. Like nobody wants Alex Smith. But the truth is, the truth is, Andy Reid does. You know, when you play quarterback. Alex Smith's like a saltine. That's his food equivalent. Yeah. Dude, they are necessary. He goes with a lot of different meals. He goes with a lot of things, but you need to like put something on it to make it.

palatable. Too much saltines by itself and you just got to dry mouth. That's all you get. You just choked. But the important part here is that with quarterbacks, their matchup makes a huge difference. When we pick our streaming quarterback pick of the week, I mean, Alex Smith is oftentimes a guy we like.

Matt Ryan is a guy we like. Stafford is a guy we like. And so we're going to be able to play the matchups here and actually put together a really good starting quarterback roster, even though we don't have Drew Brees that we could have taken in the first. You might say that in a two-quarterback league, having three like this in the middle rounds is the equivalent of the streaming quarterback strategy.

in a two- quarterback leave because you're not going to be able to actually take them from waivers, but now you can play matchups with the rotation of three guys and not spend early picks on them. You end up with Gurley and McCoy and Green and Evans because you took...

And there will still be in the season, a couple really important quarterback pickups, just like Tyrod Taylor was, just like Kirk Cousins was. Those people, they come every single year, and Josh McCown will be on this team at some point. Remember, 40 quarterbacks last year, 40 posted a top 12 week. That's such a ridiculous number. I can't even believe it, but it's true. So at this point in the draft for me, I'm looking to, I want a pad.

the running back depth a little bit. My man, Tori Smith, T. Smith is on the board. So I would really strongly consider him, but I know that we need running back depth. Okay, so what is the option here? I think Chris Thompson would be very interesting because of our ownership of Matt Jones to ensure that position, to have a PPR option if things don't go Jones way.

I think he's interesting. I don't know if he's a better pick than Derek Henry or Jordan Howard or some of these other rookies like DeAndre Washington taking a flyer with him. You know, Washington could be the third down guy in Oakland. So where do you lean? Because I'm not, I'm in that situation again, Mike, where I'm staring at the board. You got Laquan Treadwell. You've got Tori Smith. Tavon Austin, who I'm pretty high on as a value. Read me our running backs again. I want to make sure. Matt Jones.

Todd Gurley and LaShaul McCoy. So we need a running back, but I just don't really know who to take. Right, because they're all pretty much the same. You can go with super handcuffs, which won't do you much good for our, you know, if a starter goes down, unless, of course, it was Chris Thomas. Oh, it's just the ensemble of rookies. Jordan Howard, DeAndre Washington, Paul Perkins, Kenyon Drake, Wendell Smallwood, Devante Booker, Derek Henry. Those are all the rookies. We can handcuff with Aryan Foster.

I won't make that mistake again. If I'm going to take a running back here, and what about Darren Sprouls? Do you even consider him? No. So Darren Sprouls. I'd rather take one of those rookies. If I'm taking a rookie, I'm taking DeAndre Washington. And the other name I'll throw out there is Jerich McKinnon, who really came on strong in the passing game for Minnesota towards the end of the year. That could be his role. I think McKinnon will absolutely be the passing game guy. And we're in a PPR, so there is value there.

Just throwing it out. Jason, you finalize this for us so we don't linger too long. To finalize this pick, I agree that McKinnick could be good, but I'm going to go with DeAndre Washington. I said it last episode. I'm rising on him just in this situation. The reason I love Latavius Murray is not Latavius Murray. It's the situation. I promise you. Promise, promise, promise that the Oakland Raiders, if you put their running back together and you put every single team's running back.

core together, Oakland Raiders will have a top 12 running back. I believe that fully. I think that they will have a top eight running back. Right. No, I'm just. Maybe, maybe better. And so there's really only two guys there, Latavis Murray and DeAndre Washington that are going to put that together. Marcel. Roy, hello. Oh, come on. Good boy. So, yeah, I would pick DeAndre Washington. All right, we got a couple picks left. We need to make these ones snappy. So I'm going to hand this one off to Mike. He's got some options here.

Marcus Wheaton, Laquan Treadwell, Tavon Austin, Kamar Aiken, Josh Doxon. Keep going. Josh Doxon. Keep going. Oh, you passed him. You intentionally passed my man. Who's your man? I actually said his name out loud, so I didn't pass him. Right. I was waiting for Vince and Jackson so I could say stop. So you're going to take Kamar Aiken over Treadwell? Yes. If I'm taking a wide receiver, that's who I'm taking. Name Meyer wide receivers real quick. We got AJ Green.

Mike Evans and Tyler Lockett. And Tyler Lockett. Okay. Yeah, so I would balance it out with Kamar Aiken right here. That's what I would. That is the pick. So we're going to take our, we need a defensive kicker and one more bench spot. And we are now in the 13th round, the ninth pick of the 13th round. You do have Blaine Gabbard on the board at quarterback, who appears to be a starter. I wouldn't.

need a fourth. Tavon Austin is one of my value picks this year. He jumps off the board to me here unless you guys want to take another running back. I think I would take another running back. Yeah, I lean that way as well. So would you take another rookie shot or would you take a guy that's okay, so you would. I like at the back end of a draft. Like people.

really get too high on rookies. But when you're talking about this point in the draft, rookies are great. You know, because this pick could be cut, and I have no problem with that, because waivers week one, I'm going to want to open up a couple roster spots. So who has the chance to impress you in week one or two that you're not going to cut? Is it Paul Perkins? I'd say the two guys that I'm looking at, not necessarily for week one, but guys who could have opportunities because they got older gentlemen playing in front of him, and that is Paul.

Perkins and that is Josh Ferguson. But are you going to hold those guys in your roster? Exactly. That's the problem. If your last pick is Paul Perkins, you're going to drop him. I might. But who else are you going to pick up that you're not going to drop? I don't know. C.J. Spiller might show me that he has a third down role in week one. I'll tell you who. I'm going to throw a name out there that you'll both be surprised at. And I'm just saying if you want to take a flyer at a week one, hey, maybe he is actually the guy playing the role. Last year, Andy, you love Joick Bell because that role.

I'm just saying Zach Zinner could end up being their first down type of guy, their goal line type of guy. If not him and we go rookie, then my vote would be for Wendell Smallwood because we don't know how that breakdown is going to go. There's not as many guys. You know, New York, there's like 17 running backs. I'd rather go with a team like the Eagles that I don't feel like there's a lot of good options. I don't think Wendell Smallwood is good, though. That's my problem there. You think he's small good? I just don't think he's...

He's okay running routes and catch a passes, but I don't like him. All right. Well, who is not taking a pick? Jason? Did we give Jason a pick? I don't remember. We have given Jason a pick. All right. Well, Andy, you take it. But I don't need to make one. I mean, I have no idea who to draft here. I'm drafting Aryan Foster here, then. Because we're talking about a bunch of guys that are maybe and garbage. I'm going to go ahead and take the guy.

that is going to sign on a team and is going to have some kind of value who has always been a fantasy stud. And Andy, he's like your love affair. Yeah, I might as well just have Arian Foster on my team, right? He's good mojo. All right, so we'll finish up the draft with the Carolina Panthers defense and a random kicker named Adam Vinatari. Hey, that's not bad. I'll take him. And so just to give a rundown of the roster here.

We have Matthew Stafford and Matt Ryan starting at quarterback, Todd Gurley, the Sean McCoy starting at running back, wide receivers of AJ Green and Mike Evans. Our tight-in is Kobe Fleener. Our flex at the moment is a rotation of Matt Jones and Tyler Lockett and whomever else we decide to throw in there. And then we have Alex Smith on the bench to rotate in at quarterback and DeAndre Washington, Kamar Aiken, Arian Foster on the roster. I love it. Yeah, I love it.

I would be super happy with this team going into a draft. And I was, I will say this, I was a little scared to bypass the quarterback at that point, but I think it worked out for us. Okay. So I think that was very interesting. Did you guys, you guys have any final thoughts on the mock draft itself? Any kind of summaries or things that you regretted? I don't have no regrets, as the tattoo would say. But I think this can just show.

You can wait at least a little bit at the top of your draft and maybe you can't. Maybe it's just in your two quarterback league, your first two rounds are just full of quarterbacks and you get hosed. But I'm just saying it's at least some proof that it's an option for you. So don't be backed in the corner and feel scared like you have to do this.
