Welcome into the fantasy footballers podcast. Thursday. Thursday edition. February 9th, 2017. The 2017 season is nearly upon us. Well, preseason is what next week, week after? Jason was, gave me a look during the intro there.
Because the high hat of the intro reminded him of the, what up with that? Saturday Live skit when he starts going. So that reminds me. We need to get a drop related to that. Yes, I need to get that so we can all of a sudden hit it. We've got. Oh, man, that's good. If it happens right in the middle of talking, you'll get the eyeballs from me. Going to be your vibrations. All right. We have vibrations.
Those that don't know what we're talking about, which is probably most of you, check it out. But welcome to the show. Going to be a great one. We got a mailbag. Got a lot of news. Everything, you know, something's happening every day right now. We had a couple of players dropped yesterday, and it's going to be an adventurous free agency period. An adventurous free agency period. But we're answering a lot of questions today. Commish questions, league questions, dynasty keeper, everything you got. We put the word out there.
Very important. You know, I tweeted yesterday, what should I make Jason eat next? Ooh. Because Jason's been a good week. Jason's been punished this week for losing a bet. Day one, it was eggplant. Day two. Well, day one turned into nothing. Well, right, because you didn't really eat the eggplant. No. Even though I gave you a chance to race Mike in eating eggplant. Yeah, for those who are wondering, like, wait, why are we not seeing photographs and videos of Mike?
eating the terrible foods as well. Well, the eggplant was so good at being bad that Andy had to set up a race of, okay, from here on to the end of the lunch, who can eat the most? Yes. Whoever eats the most is off for the week. I accepted the challenge reluctantly. Yeah, we both accepted. I went for the game in the game. And I got you out of it, Mike, because I didn't take one more bite.
I was like, yeah, that's fine. But you were still in my head. So Mike is off the hook for the rest of the week. Although, one would argue the eggplant was a week's worth of punishment in one meal. It was for me. Day two. What did you have day two, Jason? Oh, day two, I had a delicious salad with extra beets. Horrendous beets in it. And they were nauseating. Yeah, you didn't like them. And then yesterday was the black bean burger with a side of...
Beans. Beans. And in these beans were every kind of bean you can imagine. Kidney beans. Lime of beans. Navy beans. Which, to be fair, there are people who enjoy these foods. They're just not for us. We're going to jump into the quick question, but I want to give you some of the Foot Clan's answers here. I asked what Jason should eat today, day four. A lot of tofu showing up. Tofu. Some compare that to eating a melted crayon, which, eh.
I figure Jason might like, so I'm hesitant. A lot of this lootfish? I don't think I can find any lutefish. That's lutefisk. Oh, really? Lutifix. Are you aware what lutefisk is? No, I am not. Okay, if you thought the eggplant was rough. Lutifisk, I'm going to, you know, just to summarize, it's basically a type of fish, and then you put it in a jar of vinegar, and you let it disintegrate. Wow. And then you eat it.
That is ludicrous. We've got, yes. We've got uncooked frozen eggos without syrup. I have eaten those. I am not shocked. Something super spicy. I've done that with him before. We've got the general answer of Arby's. An entire plate of ketchup. A human foot. What? We're going to the max, gentlemen. We can't stretch the boundaries of the laws of America. I could be, you know.
They could already be dead. I believe they're still alive. I still think you're not allowed to be a cannibal. We're not allowed to eat horse. I'm pretty confident we're not allowed to eat human. Listen, officer. He lost a bit. He lost to bet. He has to eat this foot. All right. Quick question of the day comes in from at man myth mower on Twitter. How soon is too soon to start discussing next season with casual.
fantasy players oh the casual player and that's a good question because uh you can you can burn out a casual yeah a casual fan i will say this if you're asking this question i'm gonna hear of a brazier uh if you if you're hearing if you're asking the question of how soon should i really get into it with uh how soon should i ask the question with a casual fan that means that you are aware that they might not
They might not respond positively to your early February 2017 discussion. In which case, I am going to say you're fine to talk about it now. Because you are obviously an astute gentleman. Or a gentle lady. That is true. Man myth mower could be a woman. What is the side track? What is the equivalent of gentlemen? There's not a, I don't think you just. Gentlewoman? It's gentlemen. I don't think ladies. Ladies and gentlemen. Ladies and gentlemen. Ladies and gentlemen.
All right. So maybe you're right. You're right. I apologize. Maybe man, myth mower is a lady. So, uh, lady or gentleman. My point is start talking about it now and use discretion. Don't go over the top. Don't make it 100% of your conversation. But, you know, plant those seeds. Your job. Your job is to convert that casual player to be like you. Exactly. So that's when you say, you know what?
Have you seen those four net video? Check this four net video out. Oh, look at these highlights. Show them, show them the Dalvin Cook. Delvin Cook. My goodness. If you don't get a little bit of perspiration over the forehead when you're watching Dalvin Cook run. Oh, my goodness. All right, going to dive into the news and knows. Before I do that, remind you on Twitter, you can follow us at the FF Ballers. We're on YouTube. Show up to the shows over there. And very exciting. You know, we're going to have the 2017 Ultimate Draft Kit.
coming out this offseason. And this thing is jam-packed, overwhelmingly positive response last year. And we're only going to add to it this year. So some exciting announcements. You're darn too. We're adding. We can't make the announcement yet. But there is a very, very exciting addition to the ultimate draft kit. Several. Several. They're amazing. I'm so happy. We're working on it hard right now. So stay tuned. That'll probably hit the website here for pre-order very soon, which will be early bird pricing, the lowest you can get it.
Pay attention to that. Exciting news. And let's jump into the news. News and notes from around the league. All right. Surprising. The Falcons have hired Steve Sarkesian from Alabama to be their offensive coordinator. I believe he was a quarterback's coach at one point in the NFL. Otherwise, he's known for, I don't know, some bad behavior. He's not, what I know him for is not good. Some off-field issues, which hopefully he's.
gotten those things taken care of. I think it was a very interesting hire. The higher has to be, I think it is really related to the Pete Carroll coaching tree in the sense that you've got Dan Quinn coming from that type of an atmosphere, that culture that's very specific to how Pete Carroll runs things. You have Sarkesian who was with Carol all those years in USC. And so you've kind of got.
what Dan Quinn is trying to build. You can see that when Dan Quinn doesn't have exactly what he wants, he's going to get rid of it. He fired the defensive coordinator, who I think was doing a pretty darn good job. Their defense was getting better and better. They were getting better, but we talked about this. I guess we're jumping a little bit of the news, but Andy and I were talking about this. It reminded me of us very much of the 2000.
2008 Cardinals where Clancy. Clancy Pendergast was the defensive coordinator. The Cardinals went to the Super Bowl. Yeah. And he was fired immediately after the Super Bowl, despite having a kind of similar fast defenses, maybe not as disciplined, maybe not as talented, but getting better. I think they needed to take a next step with the defensive coordinator. I think it seems like a knee-jerk reaction to the Super Bowl to fire the defensive coordinator. But to me, you look at the whole body of work.
And clearly Quinn thinks that someone else can solidify that unit. And obviously Shanahan left and went to San Francisco for that rebuilding project. And they needed to replace the offensive coordinator. Quinn has already said that the offense is not going to change. And one of the things people need to understand about Matt Ryan in this past season is that one of the things Kyle Shanahan did wasn't.
Kyle Shanahan so much. It was the freedom for Matt Ryan to call his own plays and make adjustments at the line of scrimmage. And so something like that isn't changing. And people should recognize the fact that, you know, if Matt Ryan in two-minute offenses is calling his own plays and that freedom is going to be availed to him again, you're not going to see a change very much. So we'll see what happens, but Dan Quinn has come out and said that the offense isn't going to change. I'm sure there will be twists and turns. But any thoughts on that other than...
The news? I will just throw out there is going to be changed because it's a different human running every single aspect of your offense. Or is it? In practice. I agree with you that the offense is still going to be good. Matt Ryan is still going to be able to call the plays. They're still going to have amazing running backs and a great pass catching core. Could we be giving Kyle Shanahan too much credit? Because this offense, year one with Kyle Shanahan, wasn't this machine.
This year you had Taylor Gabriel involved. You had the ascension of Tevin Coleman. You had the stability of Alex Mack. Are we giving Kyle Shannon too much credit for that offense? Because it hasn't always been roses. Yeah. You had much better pieces this year. But it takes time to get into a really, I mean, that was a complex offense, always moving things around. So if this was the only body of work we had from Kyle Shanahan, then I can agree with that. But we have seen him from.
in a bunch of different teams bringing high-powered offense to the field. So to me, Shanahan, I think he's a great offensive coach. Well, speaking of Shanahan, he's going to be the offensive coordinator for the 49ers. They're not bringing on an outside offensive coordinator. I think he'll have a couple of assistants helping him, but he will be calling the plays. There's a lot on his plate. Yeah, I think it's a dumb move. After just saying how great Kyle Shanahan is. Yeah, I'm confused now.
Well, the reason here is because there's too much. He's a first-time head coach who now has to do all of the job of an offensive coordinator plus the other stuff that he just thinks that he's going to be able to just do. He's never had to deal with the ownership and the behind-the-scenes stuff that a head coach has to deal with. And so I think I would have preferred, hey, bring in someone, you know, bring in a...
the floor bringing uh you know someone to come in and take an offensive coordinator role you still call the plays there's plenty of coaches out there that call their offensive plays they still have an offensive coordinator to help with the workload and and so a first time head coach doing this it's it's going to be tough sledding with uh
