The TRUTH About Fantasy WRs in 2018, Part 2

Going full Sandra Bullock when I put him in my lineup. That's all I'm saying. I'm not looking. I'm not looking. 84. 84.4% of snaps. I would say that is a full allotment of snaps. I would say it is identical to the week prior. So that is fair. Weeks, 12, 13, and 14. That three game stretch, the super stretch. The Super Cooper? More fantasy points in those three games than he had in the first nine combined by a margin.

I mean, we're going to have to. This is like the offseason story I don't want to talk about every year. And yet we have to. Because he keeps making it. If he had stayed in Oakland and done this, we could have put him to bed. We could have been like, yeah, Amari Cooper sucks. Get ready for Amari Cooper and Derek Henry all summer long. So wait. Are you taking Amari Cooper ahead of Tyler Lockett? Tyler Boyd? Yes, not Boy. Are you too, Mike? Ahead of Lockett, probably ahead of Boyd just because of what he could.

become for the fifth year in a row. At least he is the number one there. I come to think of it, I would probably take him over Tyler Boyd. When you're in that point in the draft, I'm swinging for, you know, a guy that's really going to come through. Exactly. He'll get paid, right? Yeah, he's already being paid. Yeah. He's going into his fifth year. Am I remembering that correctly? Because then it would be.

He'll be in the option, and then they have to re-sign him. I mean, they have to resign. I'm saying he will be paid as a super one. Yes, yes, he will be paid. You don't trade a first-round pick and then rent a guy for a year. I will compare every player after him in this rankings to him and ask you guys what you think, because I think that'll help us determine the upside there. So number 19, Jarvis Landry. By the way, Jarvis Landry or Amari Cooper? Mari Cooper. Wow. All right. 100.

76 points this year from Jarvis Landry, 81 for 976 and 4, 150 targets. That's a lot of targets. Not as much production. Consistency ranking of 25, obviously a season in which you could argue massive tumult, right? You start the season with Tyra Taylor, you go to Baker. You start with Hugh Jackson, you go to Greg Williams, and ultimately Freddie Kitchens as the offensive coordinator. You are on a new team.

for the first time, which we know is a difficult thing. Whenever these transitions happen, we're always warning people, and we did this offseason. You think he's going to be everything, but you just don't know how they fit in and that rapport. End of the year with some good games, right? 13, 23, then 5, 9.8, and 18. I just don't know what to make of him next year. We knew that the touchdown totals weren't going to be very high. And that hurt you. 25% busts, 38% good.

It stinks. And then only 13% great games. Yeah, he's not exciting to me. Look, Baker's great. I think Baker takes another step forward in his second year. There's going to be more yards to split amongst them and more touchdowns. But Calloway should really step up into his year, too. And Joku should come, you know, to be more of a regular, more consistent weapon. And Jarvis Landry...

I think is going to be one of a lot of really good options Baker has. And while he'll lead in targets, I don't think that he is a dominant one that you can rely on next year. I do think his talent and his skill is great, but Baker's going to go wherever the open guy is. And, you know, sometimes a quarterback that spreads the ball around can really hurt the wide receiving options, even though it's great for the quarterback.

you know, in fantasy. So I'll like Baker more than his perceived number one target is kind of my point. And I think that'll be who Jarvis is. Yeah. And you saw with the new offense, I mean, with Freddie Kitchens really calling the show from weeks nine through the end of the season, Jarvis didn't have a double-digit target game. Meanwhile, those first eight weeks, there was only one time he didn't hit 10 or more targets. Well, a lot of those games were with Tyrod Taylor.

A couple of them were. I mean, some of those heavy targets were still Baker, but I'm saying the offense completely switched. And when it switched, there was massive success for the Cleveland Browns. I think he's going to be a really interesting potential bargain next year. I mean, career loan receptions. I get that. I like the fact that his yards per catch was up. You know, he's up at 12. He was at 8.8 in Miami last year, that 112 year.

You said he throws it to the open man. I'm with you on that. Jarvis has been the open man a lot in his career. So I still think there's a lot of upside there from a talent perspective. It will be interesting to see what happens with Calloway. We're not going to talk about him on today's show, but he was a very inconsistent player with a lot of talent. If we make it to 72, we will. Calvin Ridley, number 20. Believe it or not, Calvin Ridley. Here's how he got up here.

He's got a consistency ranked by us of wide receiver 39. That means he was boom bust. You know what I mean? He had just 10 touchdowns. A monster game or two, and that's where all the production came. He is a quintessential truth episode guy. Because what you're going to see is that in his rookie year, he finished as the wide receiver 20. And he's going to take a step up in year two.

They got rid of Sarkesian. There's going to be a lot of narratives that say, this should be a great year for Calvin Ridley. I'm not buying it. I think Calvin Ridley is great for the NFL, great for the Falcons, great for Matt Ryan. But this is the Julio Jones show and will continue to be next year, the Julio Jones show. I don't think Calvin Ridley takes some, maybe he takes a step forward in consistency, but a step back from those, you know, three touchdown games that were just kind of, you know,

unpredictable, unrepeatable. Sunu is not going anywhere. He's under contract for the next two years for a good value. Yeah, I think the counterpoint to Ridley would be based on the fact he's going to be coming into his second season, set the franchise record and touchdowns. Rookie. Franchise rookie record. Yeah, franchise rookie record. 64 for 8, 21, 10 touchdowns. I think he could take a step up and still end up at 20.

Exactly. That's what I'm saying. He could be a 75 for a thousand and five guy next year. He would be somebody that I think you could hotly debate Tyler Locker, Calvin Ridley, which would surprise people. But Ridley has a ton of talent. I mean, this was kind of the unanimous number one guy coming out of college last year. Before the combine, he was. Yeah, before the combine. But he's still, he's completely sound. He finds a way to get open. He earned the trust over the, you know.

Better part of the year of Matt Ryan. I just think he's a very interesting name. Now, when he played a tough defense, he got destroyed. That comes with maturity, too. Top 16 defenses, he was minus 11 points per game. So, yeah, he busted like crazy. Like Jason said, he was a boom-bushed guy. I just think, if you're going to give me a boom-bust guy.

Give me one that's in his early 20s going into his second season that made monster plays. They had the capability of a 7 for 146 and 3 game. Not everybody can do that. Yeah, not everybody can do it. Lockett never even had a two touchdown game. Right. I think Matt Ryan, the Falcons, they're good offense to have pieces of. But Calvin Ridley will be difficult to, it's going to be hard for him to be consistent as that number two with.

Sunu there. It's not, like you said, Mike, the contract's great. Is that more of it? Because we're obviously, we've talked about a lot of guys like, I mean, Tyler Boyd is. Tyler Lockett's, in your case, not the one. Tyler Boyd and Calvin Ridley are the two names that I was thinking of like, okay, you want to discuss these guys. They're both the number two. They both actually could get volume. They're both in decent offenses. Calvin Ridley has the higher drafts pedigree, the higher, the better quarterback.

But I still think I lean towards Tyler Boyd out of those two guys. I think I want to just give you guys kind of a lay of the land, the foot clan out there, of some more names and just kind of where they finished on the season and then where their consistency ranking was. So that way I think they'd be better than breaking down anymore beyond 20. Kenny Gallaudet was 21. His consistency ranking was 26. Ninth most air yards in the league. Julian Edelman, who by the way, against the Chargers,

eviscerated them. What a performance. 22nd on the year, despite the suspension, right? Consistency rank? Listen to this. Tied for fourth. He was. He was amazing. Just solid. Every single week. Zero bus, zero great games by the definition we gave earlier. 83% of his games were good. You want 15 points in a half point PPR? You pick Julian Edelman up. He's a dream, dream wide receiver too. If I could have Tyreek Hill and Julian Edelman? Yeah.

Yeah, and moving into next year, assuming that the plant man, Tom Brady is back, Edelman is going to be a nice target. And Grok will be phased further out even if he is back. That's what I mean. Or he's gone. 99, here's a 16 game pace. 99 catches 1133 yards and eight touchdowns on 144 targets. So hasn't lost a step. He is getting older, though. Oh, yeah. But I think Wes Welker had a phenomenal year at age 33.

or 34. Yeah, he's 30. He'll be 33 when the season starts next year. So I think there's his style of game and the offense he's in, I think, plays well to his age. Yeah, I looked up his age. He's 60. He's 60 years old. Him and Baldwin go hang out. Emmanuel Sanders, don't forget about him. He actually was the 23rd at the end of the year. He's going to be so tough coming off that Achilles. That was the name when you guys last week, I was listening to one of your

Quick question trivia. And who was it? And it was Julian Edelman. I was screaming from question one. It's got to be Emmanuel Sanders. Everything went Emmanuel Sanders. And then it was Julian. Mike Williams was the 24th ranked fantasy wideout. Consistency rank of 38. Throw that out. Throw it out the window. Don't care. Mike Williams is coming. Mike Williams had 43 catches for 664 yards and 10 touchdowns. He's a beast. He's a monster. I think he's coming.

I think he's got top 15 potential. I think he's got a chance to, I'm not projecting it because Keenan Allen's too dang good, but he's got a chance to outperform Keenan Allen next year, fantasy points per game. Yeah, the problem for Mike Williams is Keenan Allen and Melvin Gordon. Thinking back to Calvin Ridley and his 10 touchdowns, how much of that do you put on the fact that their running game was atrocious? Was rough with no Devont to Freeman. Yeah, they're rushing touchdowns were basically none.

You could be 100% dead on about that, but we might not know what that Russian game even looks like next year because Freeman hasn't held up with Kevin Coleman. They won't have Kevin Coleman. I don't know if they'll have a running game like they've ever had before. You know, those are windows that close. Yes, they do. You could be right, though. They could be part of the reason. Chris Godwin was 25 with a consistency rank of 33. Alshan Jeffrey.

was 26th with a consistency rank of 28? His season was so strange. It was. You came back immediately from the injury, and he was, came out with huge games. I mean, 20 points, his first game back. Two weeks later, 23.4, which is a great game, then disappeared, and then he has, he reappeared at the end of the season. Not as strange as Corey Davis. Corey Davis was the 28th ranked.

with a consistency rank of 45. He killed you if you had him. Yes. He had so many. 65 for 891, but four touchdowns on 112 targets. He did it all in two games. Yeah, yeah. AJ, don't forget about AJ Green because he was the 40th ranked whiteout on the year, so he won't show up near the top, but he had a consistency rank of seven. Because we don't count those injured games in the consistency rankings, and they only had 11% bust rate. Don't forget about him next year. Don't forget about it.

Our consistency rank of the number 15 wide receiver missed the game. So, you know, you might, you might forget about how dominant he was during that stretch. All right. Anybody else that you guys want to bring up? Any other? Who is wide receiver 72? That's what matters here. Germain? I said we would. Germain. Curse is probably the answer. That's true.
