Fantasy Football 2018 - This-OR-That ADP Picks, Evolving Opinions

Hunter Henry, at least he tore it, tore the ACL now. So we do believe it'll be healthy for next year. But then I do have a bit of an internal clock saying Philip Rivers is one more year older. And then all the pieces have to come together, not to mention, what do they do at Tideon this year? Do they bring somebody else in that's going to still be there as a compliment to Henry next year?

The round question is an interesting one. Do you have a ballpark in your mind of where you'd want to take that shot, or do you just want to let somebody else do it? I think I want to let somebody else do it because of the combination. I mean, I think two years from now you're going to get a really good 2019 with Philip Rivers, but they would be doing themselves a disservice if they don't draft another tight end. And, you know, they have to worry about, okay, higher possible risk of, you know, re-enduring an ACL. I don't think Virgil Green is enough.

even if Gates plays this year, he's not going to be there next year. There are tight ends. I mean, he was really a tear break at tight end already. But like, okay, let me ask this. Would you rather draft in a startup, Trey Burton or Hunter Henry? Are you kidding me? I would take Trey Burton. Right. And so Trey Burton, he's down in, you know, round 10 plus. And that's what you'll have to spend for Henry in a dynasty startup even now.

Yeah, so right now I'm saying I would not take 12, 13. I would not take Hunter Henry until we're at least double digit rounds. And, you know, I'm not going to take him over players that can make an impact this year. No, me neither. You know, I just don't, I don't think his talent and his situation is good enough to say, I want him more than whatever I can replace him with, plus someone playing this year.

I'm starting to think to myself, like, what if somebody in a dynasty startup two years ago were facing the same question with Jordan Reed? And the easy default would have been, well, Reed's heard, he'll come back, he'll have Kirk Cousins, and you can just print the fantasy points. But so many things change, and you don't get to predict that. Right. So I think it would be really late for me to make that pick. By the way, to catch people up a little bit on the news around the tight-in situation in,

Los Angeles with the Chargers, there have been a lot of names coming out there. For some reason, the entire Earth wants to ask you, Jason, how you would project Kobe Fleener if they went with Kobe Fleener. Well, it would have to be 50 receptions, right? 50 on the dot, no matter what. That's what he does. This is requirement. No, look, Kobe Fleener showed on, it wasn't, it wasn't just, oh, he wasn't a fit for the New Orleans Saints. If he were to go, I would not be very excited about Kobe Fleener. He would not be a top 12 tight end in my rankings.

I talk of Julius Thomas, who's had exactly no inquiries after last year's bad season. I actually think Julius Thomas would be a better fit for them because the red zone is where Philip Rivers has utilized tight ends so well. He's a similar shape to Antonio Gates, which is important. Big body target. And Thomas was on a team last year that really didn't tighten.

you know, target the tight end. And you can say maybe that's because Julius Thomas wasn't getting open. But that wasn't the system they were in. So I don't think Julius Thomas has much left in the gas tank. But if you, if you, Andy, were to take this year, would you rather have Julius Thomas this year or Antonio Gates this year? Gates. Me too. I was trying to make the argument in my own brain. I'm like, but he already knows the system. Yeah. He's got the rapport. Yeah. I would. I would. You know, there's no good replacement coming in. You used to joke all the time about how.

The NFL needs to take some Yao Ming, right? Yes. And they need to bring in the seven footer, the minute bowl of the world. Shout out 1980 something. Oh, yeah. And line them up a tight end and run them out and just have them stand there. Yeah. Because if you go out. If you're seven feet tall with a four yards, grab the ball and fall to the ground. They can't really even tackle you once you caught the ball. No, that would be a goal line automatic. You just got to put the ball up higher. We got our two-point conversion play. It's called Yao Ming. But you have to grandma throw the ball. None of this. You got to do like the scoop shot and just throw it up in the air and let him grab it. Just for entertainment. go Davis. Even though I don't predict Davis will have a great season, the path is there for him. The path is absolutely there for him to take a step up from where he was drafted. But you have no need. Like if he steps- If Leon Lewis by going away on your roster, you have four great wide receiver options. If he steps up this year, you're probably not going to make it in. That processes every night after Wednesday to keep a fair game to sign free agent players to get hurt during practices. Yeah, well, that's, so. That's what we do. Some places don't do that. They make it open waiver. Once a week, you know, you'll have the day where it's locked on Tuesday or whatever.

so that everyone can make their picks, and then it'll run in the morning or at night, wherever you set it up. And then after it runs, it's just an open, free agency period. We don't do that. We actually prefer where it locks and runs once every 24 hours. Yeah, ours runs like 8 or 9 a.m. every single day. Other than Tuesday morning. Other than Tuesday morning, yes. So you get that whole day to put in your bids, and then it runs every day. So there's no sneaking a player if something happens ever.

Right. Because, you know, if the news break, because we all work. This is making fancy football fun versus just for the guy that, you know, isn't a fireman. Half the time, the best waiver pickup of the week is not made on Wednesday morning when it runs. It's made on Thursday morning based on who was stupidly dropped. People make dumb drops when they make that. So you don't want those drops to just go into a first come first dibs situation. Yeah. All right. Last question. Nick.

From Instagram, in Dynasty and Keeper leagues, what efforts are you making to acquire Tevin Coleman? This year. How early would you draft him this year? So basically, if you are grabbing Tevin Coleman, the reason he's so excited is because Mr. Coleman is a free agent next year. Yeah, I'm not like, so where he is right now in his normal ADP.

is where he should be going. I'm not reaching for Tevin Coleman any higher. I think he represents a quality backup running back that you can actually start and use now. He'll be 26 years old when he hits free agency next year. And there is the world where he becomes the next Michael Turner goes to a team. Derek McKinnon this past year. That exists for sure.

I think a lot of times people don't realize or don't give credit to the fact that that's not a guarantee. No. The world also exists where all of a sudden next year he's 26. There's not a lot of interest. People are drafting just rookie running backs like the NFL does. And he signs somewhere to be the backup on a less proficient offense than the Falcons. Definitely. Or resigns with the Falcons. So that's why you like his ADP. I like his ADP right where it's at. And you might get something juicy in a keeper or a dynasty league. In a keeper league, I got a.

I don't really care, but in a dynasty. Yeah. Yeah, I think it's a lot of different outcomes could have. He's a 4.3 career runner. We don't know what he'd be like with, you know, 16 games getting the rock frequently. Well, I don't think, correct me if I'm wrong, I don't think he's ever played 16 games in a season, right? No, I think he's been banged up a little bit. And he gets to play, you know, with Devanta Freeman, stay fresh. There's a lot of different things that could happen. So I would not over-invest either.

They still might worry about, he's got the sickle cell trait like John Brown. I mean, obviously John Brown signed a contract, but he's dealt with it for years staying healthy. So there's a lot more to where he's going to sign than just, oh, he's a free agent, so he gets a big contract. Yeah, yeah, I agree with you on that one. All right, that is it for today's episode.
