A host champion opens another Listener League seat

The hosts project that all three could occupy three of the six Listener League playoff spots and explain that if one of them wins the league, another place becomes available for a listener the following season.

Monday Punday reads listener damage with sophistication

The recurring Monday segment reads listener-submitted player puns in a mock-sophisticated manner, including Breece Hall of Shame, Kenneth Walker the Turd, and Fart Andrews; social channels collect entries, and at least one weak pun survives only because Christmas is close.

moment

Mike denies dark magic and remembers the Senator button

When Zach Ertz's torn ACL clears a path for Mike favorite Ben Sinnott much like Trey McBride's earlier opportunity, the hosts accuse Mike's magical season of dark magic. Mike rejects the premise, rediscovers his 'I am the Senate' button, and insists the injury not be put on him.

Andy's multi-league bad luck reaches a minus-20 baseline in one league

After selling during a lost League of Record keeper season, Andy faces Tony Pollard and Blake Corum when they finish second and third among running backs. The hosts say he is the most-scored-against manager in almost every league, and Andy calculates that one league's opponents score roughly 20 points per week above expectation.

Jonathan Icarus Gannon touches the sun

An unlabeled Cardinals grievance wishes Jonathan Gannon an astronaut career in outer space, specifically as the first explorer to land on and touch the sun, before paying off with the mythology name Jonathan Icarus Gannon.

summary

Episode notes

The hosts explain a Listener League wrinkle directly relevant to future applicants: if all three make up three of the six playoff teams and one becomes champion, another entry spot opens for the following season. The weekly Monday Punday segment turns listener submissions into a deliberately sophisticated parade of names such as Shoulder Santa, Christmas Watson, Breece Hall of Shame, Kenneth Walker the Turd, and Fart Andrews; submissions arrive through the show's social accounts, and a weak seasonal pun is admitted only near Christmas. Mike's attachment to Ben Sinnott becomes a dark-magic accusation when Zach Ertz tears an ACL, echoing the Trey McBride path; Mike objects, forgets that he has an 'I am the Senate' button, then refuses responsibility for the injury. Andy's 2025 fantasy misery is quantified: after selling for future keeper value in the League of Record, he faces Tony Pollard and Blake Corum when they finish second and third at running back, is the most-scored-against manager across almost every league, and estimates that opponents in one of those leagues run about 20 points per week above expectation. The Cardinals grievance becomes a physical fantasy in which Jonathan Gannon is celebrated as an astronaut, sent to touch the sun, and renamed Jonathan Icarus Gannon.

he got target volume and he didn't know what to do with it. Let me just say this. D.K. Metcalf dominated. Assuming he's perfectly healthy and jokes are allowed, it's Skittles. Yeah, it's definitely skittles. David Najoku left early with a left knee injury. Harold Manin Jr. Boy, he's a great player. He is. That's the player I would be targeting heavily in Dynasty Leagues because I still feel like his true value is not the value is now. Oh yeah. David Nojoku. I mean, even, even, we'll talk about it tomorrow on the waiver show, but like, Nojoku caught a touchdown, went down with an injury. Fanon rest of season is a great play. No, I don't think so. I think he's got a contract. I'll look that out. But I went and did some diving. He is. He's a free agent. Because if you out there did not see it, it looked like Mason Taylor possibly maybe broke a tackle.

27:01 ↗

But you're saying it didn't count as one? And so I was like, man, I want to see what the graders did. So it's like PFF, fantasy points. I went and I checked that out. They did not give Mason Taylor the mistackle force or however they want to credit. But at the top of that list, Harold Fanon. This is PFF's great. Harold Fanon is credit. I mean, it's also like juking people and things like that. It's forcing a mistackle. So he's probably just got a few more. He's at. 20. Oh my. Ray McBride is second with 13. Harold Fanon has 20. And McBride does it all the time. And by the way, Colston Loveland has more than Tyler Warren with two fewer games. Just want to just want to throw that out. You mean Colston dog? Yeah, the dog commentary. All right. We got to take a break. That was news and notes sponsored by progressive insurance. 28:54 ↗

Making the beginning of the game really interesting. Like this past week, I had Giovante Williams. I took the less on his, in his first five rushing attempts, will he have more or less than 18 and a half yards? Bryce Young, will he have more or less than seven completions? You know, things like that. It makes the beginning of the game truly an event, extra special, extra fun for your fantasy football weekend. Download the prize picks app today and use code footballers to get $50 in lineups after you play your first $5 lineup. That's code footballers to get $50 in lineups after you play that first $5 lineup. Prize picks, it's good to be right. All right. Week 14, let's talk studs. This week's fantasy stud muffins presented by Lowe's. Well, the fantasy playoffs are here and they're those of you with Josh Allen, you're hoping you get this, Josh Allen. He was unbelievable. Number one on the week. Shoulder Sanders number two. Guys, I was at the...

29:57 ↗

The big dome meeting last night. We took a beating. You did. You did. Yeah. I was there. I was there. It was tough. Yeah. We were all very much coping with the situation. Yeah, there was this is of the majestic snow game that gave us a bazillion points. Yeah, two of the top three players. During this guy, I was like, this is bad for you. This is bad for business. This is just like this game is beautiful. Yeah. Awesome. The two great quarterbacks playing out of their mind. I mean. And the aesthetic was wonderful. Oh, gorgeous, man. What a great game. It was awesome. I was like, this sucks. This is terrible. Oh, it's perfect timing after I said you need, you need a good snow game. Man, we got one. We got one. And you got two of the three top scores of the quarterback. We got in the Cleveland game as gross as it was. That one had points too.

30:53 ↗

Yeah, Shadour's number two on the week, Borough 3, Stafford, who just played with his food in Arizona, and Sam Darnold at 5. And Sam Darnold looked like they were doing nothing halfway through. Through the first half of that game, I was, the concern was... And then the Falcons defender turned their helmets on backwards. It was growing of like, you had a week where the Minnesota Vikings showed... The NFL. This is how you stop JSN. This is how you stop Sam Darm. Exactly what I was thinking. We know. We know why do you think we let him go? Because we know that you do this one thing and you can stop him. And then a whole half of the Falcons doing it. And then they didn't. Yeah, I mean, it kicked off with a Rashid Shahid. Special teams. Yeah. But then J.S.N just went crazy. So, yeah, this is New England next week for Josh Allen. So you're in New England next week. Oh, man. That sucks. Divisional battle.

31:45 ↗

Chargummit. Yeah, you're super thrilled about that. Oh, man. Congrats to those of you with Josh Allen. My condolences to those playing against him. Yeah. I am out. In New England, he only scored 19 points against them in week five just for what it's worth. But this one's going to be worth a lot in this division. He is the first quarterback ever with three seasons of 20 plus passing touchdowns and 10 plus rushing touchdowns. and nine for 78 on the ground, including what, like a 45-yard run right up the middle. He's beaten Mahomes this year. He's beaten Lamar. He's beaten Burrough. Let me just tell you, in case you don't know, Joshua, it's now. The time is now. This is your Super Bowl run. The Chiefs have a 14% chance to make the playoffs. I don't think they're going to make the playoffs. You don't have to go through Mahomes or Lamar. You've got to go through Bo Nix. No, you've got to go through.

32:42 ↗

Drake Nate. It's funny. You're going to go through those guys. You say this season he's excellent. This season he's beating Holmes, Lamar, and Burroughs. Like, okay, well, beat good teams. You know what I mean? Like, okay. I like the note here, but somehow he lost to Michael Pennix, Tua, and Davis Mills. It doesn't matter in the playoffs. In the play. This is your time, Josh. Please don't miss it. The sons. The sons had a chance to go to the finals twice when Jordan was retired. And they let Halim Alajuan do it. Instead of you. This is your time. Don't. You don't think Mahomes is making it next year? Just go get your title, Buffalo. And to the Denver fans and the New England fans, you got enough time. You guys are young. I agree. No, I think Buffalo is definitely good enough. I think that it is their time. I'm on Jason's side of, I don't know. They just, they've had so many games this year where they haven't shown up, especially on the road. I think it's time. I would put all my money on them making the Super Bowl.

33:40 ↗

Okay. I'm really, I think they'll take advantage of it. And the nice thing is, their head coach, the defensive football and the playoffs, I think they're built for this. But you know that they don't get to throw to the tight end every play against non- Cincinnati angles opponents. They will have to throw to one of those whiteouts. Mike's start of the week was the- Whoever was starting for the bills. The bills tight ends. And they both scored. Not just both. Three of them scored. That's right. Jackson Hawes scored. Every play was a throw to a tight end. The Bengals can't guard tight ends. It's wild. Oh, I guess Dawson Knox technically didn't score. He just went six for 93. Dawson Knox. And a two-point conversion. Dawson Knox had 93 yards. Yeah. Dawson Knox. That's embarrassing. Yeah. That's like a career. And that's the end of the sentence. Yep. For him. Chedore Sanders, 364 and three.

34:36 ↗

And then they inexplicably took him off the field for the two point conversion so that Quinn Sean Jenkins would forget to pitch it and look like he was playing streetball. That was frustrating. I loved it. They did the analytical. You're down by 14. You score. So you go for two because you have a 50, the analytics are you have about a 50% chance of getting the two. So should you not get it the first time, you still have a good chance to get it and tie it the next time. And they got neither? Yeah, they didn't get either of them. You're playing to win. I love that. But then the play call on the second one? Don't take Shadur off. What was that? Rookie quarterbacks with 350 passing yards, three passing touchdowns and a rushing touchdown in a game. So all time. This is from NFL and CBS. Joe Burrow. Yeah, he did it. Shadour Sanders. Nice. Wow. Keep it going. Yeah, Joe Burrow was 284 and 4. He played great except for two plays. Back to back.

35:28 ↗

Near the end of the game. It was just unbelievable. One of them was real, real bad. Like Jason, when we played flag football, his dream was to knock the ball down or actually just catch it out of the air. Straight catch. As a delinement, like catch it right next to the quarterback and keep running. So Burrow basically kills their season. They basically have no hope. of making the playoffs now i don't know if they're technically they are not they are not they probably have to win the division the fact that baltimore lost the fact that baltimore lost they are still in it it's wild they need just to win the division yeah they need to beat the ravens and they need who they play this week they need pittsburgh to lose two of three i don't think they need the steelers to lose every so you could be sub 500 winning that division yes matthew stafford jason start of the week

36:14 ↗

281 and 3 could have thrown for five more if he wanted to. He was bored, probably. He plays the Lions this week. That's going to be a fun game. Sam Darnold got it going after a slow start, three touchdown passes. Tyler Shuck. Mike Streamer on Tuesday, two rushing touchdowns. Dog. And how many yards? Oh, on the ground? 55. And this wasn't just scrambling. I mean, they're running read options. With Tyler Shuck, and he's picking up huge yardage. His touchdown run was on a read option. Maybe. Maybe. I see Lamar in here. Yeah, because he had a fine game. Do you feel like he had a good game? By comparison of what you have been experiencing, he had the best game of his career. Did he have a game worthy of?

37:06 ↗

Yeah, I mean, I was, if you started him, you were happy that you, that you have him in your lineup. He had a rushing touchdown, a passing touchdown, 43 rushing yards. Coulda had two. Yeah, the likely touchdowns. Yeah. Yeah. So I think he was fine. And yeah, I mean, I said it this week that I would still play Lamar over most of the second tier guys next week in Cincinnati. I will do the same. J.J. McCarthy, 16 for 23, 16, 16, 13, and 3. Do you feel like he did what are you supposed to do, that he outperformed what you expected? He did not provide fantasy value for Justin Jefferson. No, he did not. Exactly what the Vikings needed. They needed to put him in a situation in positions to be successful. All the all the touchdowns went to the tight end, to tight ends, because one one was Hawkinson. But it was at least it lets.

38:05 ↗

Vikings, not just fans, the staff, just breathe. Yeah. It lets them just like be able to be able to have some oxygen and be like, okay, let's, let's see if we can do this. Um, Jacoby Brissette, garbage timed it. I don't know if we'd want to. Oh, that was, that was stinky garbage two. Got it down for you. Both of them going to Wilson. Running back top five scores of the week. There's some here. Here's what it is. There's Jamir Gibbs. He is looking like, especially with the Jonathan Taylor situation, Gibbs looks like the best running back in football right now. Plays the Rams this week. That'll be tough. Okay, you, because you know that. Oh, I know that. He hasn't, he's been fluctuating like zero or three touchdowns, right? Jason has already painted his path to the.

38:53 ↗

The semi-finals. Man, I need some. The number two and number three scores were the two running backs I faced in League of Records. That's what? That's impossible. That is impossible. There's no way that you face Tony Pollard and Blake Corum. And they both went off. The number two, that's your. So, okay, Fookland. Yeah. This has been a bad year for Andy. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You, you sold halfway through the season and invested for next year where a keeper league, yada, yada. Which was a good decision. Yes, it was. We play in about, like four main leagues and like eight leagues total, you know, or we don't care about. Way too many. You are in, if not every single one, if not every single one. Paying penance.

39:39 ↗

almost every single, I think there might be one where you're like the second most points scored against you. Yeah. Every league, you are the most points scored against you. It's amazing. And this, by the way, my opponent this week was one of the worst teams in the league. They scored the most points. They played Tony Pollard and Blake Corum. Who went number two and three on the week. Oh, he went number two on you. I need to stay away from Andy. I did the math in one of the leagues and it amounts to like. It's like 20 something points a week more scored against me than like. Oh, above expectation. Then the expectation. So like I start with a minus 20 every week. It's I just had to laugh at this point. Travis E.TN number four got into the end zone twice. RJ Harvey at 19. There you go. He's coming on strong. Yeah. So yeah, I'm looking at the numbers here. Tony Pollard was started in only 25% of leagues as. That was like 25% too many.

40:36 ↗

Those are... It's Cleveland. Go to Cleveland. Start Tony Pollard and it works? No. We shouldn't have jobs. Neither should the Cleveland defense. Yeah. Like, how does that happen? Devon H.M. was great. Got knocked out early. He only had eight touches and still ends up dominating. He's so good. He is so good. Seven carries for 92 yards. I mean, if you look at his game log for the entire year. His worst fantasy finishes of the year, I'm going to read the five worst. Running back 13, 16, 16, 17, 17. Otherwise, he's top 10. Yeah. And what is his fewest half PPR points in a single game all year? His worst, worst of the worst is 11.3 points. When I see double digits from my player, I'm not always happy, but I'm fine. I'm not upset. I'm like, okay. Have you seen his consistency ranking on our site?

41:33 ↗

I mean, it's an A. It's an A, but you know what the percentages? It's 94.1%. That's outrageous. That is games exceeding 10.5 in the last 17 played. He's going to improve on that. Two starts of the week did well. Chase Brown scored. Thank goodness for those touchdowns. Through the air and on the ground. And then Devin Neil. There's a lot of P. Rine's been back. It has been a decent amount. And it was even closer. It felt like it was closer last week. on Sunday. I'm assuming because of the conditions of the game. Devin Neal, 19 for 70 and a touchdown. Yeah, baby. And then pay attention here because Nick Chub got hurt, not that the work wasn't all going his way, but Woody Mark's 26 opportunities on the ground. This is a defensive first team that is going to lean on the running game. Woody Mark's got some big first downs at the end of the game when everybody knew they were running the football. Plays the Cardinals and the Raiders the next two weeks. He is a delicious. Really, really good start.

42:32 ↗

As a reminder, Blake Corum running back two against the Cardinals. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Wide receivers, Puka, Michael Wilson, JSN, T. Higgins, Christian Watson. Puka's just unbelievable. If they let Puka score touchdowns, he's the number one wide receiver on the week. Yeah, I mean, well, you're talking about a guy who is currently the number two wide receiver on the year without them. So, I mean, he's, he's. unstoppable. And Christian Watson. Yeah, let's talk about Christian Watson. He's got Denver next week, then Chicago, both on the road. But he has been so important, not just to fantasy players, but to Jordan Love. Yeah, I mean, since he's been, you look at the last month, you know, he's been relevant every single week. Five targets, seven targets, ten targets. This last week was his worst target count with only four targets, but he had 82 yards and two touchdowns. He's used around the goal line. He is.

43:31 ↗

Such an athletic, this team really needed him because they spent a first round draft pick on a third round wide receiver, which was a mistake. But Christian Watson is good. Do you feel good about Jordan Levin the fantasy playoffs? He's got four touchdowns last week, three this week. You do not feel good. He's been a top 12, three out of four weeks. He's playing very, very well. I'm just thinking Jaden Reed's back. Christian Watson is dominating. They have weapons now again. Yeah, I mean, his consistency rating is still an F. 29% of his games. And I realize now he's, 17 weeks. I'm talking about right now. But if you're talking right now, he plays Denver in Denver. In the fantasy playoffs? I don't know, man. I would be hard pressed to, I wouldn't want to go into my fantasy playoffs with my quarterback playing against Denver unless he's like Josh Allen. Okay. Ryan Flanoy, if C.D. Lam misses this week.

44:27 ↗

13 targets, 9 for 115. He could be worth a shot against Minnesota, but that'd be a scary start, a backup option situation. And that's a tough defense. DK Metcalf and Zay Flowers, who... Where has this been? You had to start both of these guys, and they both had their best weeks of the year, really. I've been starting these guys all year long. Where has this been? Now you're like, this week didn't matter. You're basically on a buy, a pre-bye, bye week because you're already locked up in the buy. And then... Get it out of the way now, Metcalf and Flowers. 12 targets for D.K. Metcalf is like, where has this been? This is what you traded for. This is what you paid him for. Why did it take until week 14 to, to surpass a double digit targets in one single game? This turned into a passing affair. And Zay Flowers ended up with 11 targets on the other side, eight for 124. Gotta hope that it continues. Will it? Man.

45:25 ↗

tight-ins on the week. Harold Fanon was number one, Gassicki, two, Josh Oliver. Yeah, two touchdowns will do that. Dawson Knox, Brock Bowers. Dawson Knox. You know, Bowers was the most disappointing 12 points of your life because it was the first drive of the game. A long touchdown, and then you're like, oh, baby, here comes 30. And it was that was basically it. Because that team is so bad. They are very bad. Four for 46 and one. And then Kyle Pitts, six for 90. He brought him up. He was the start of the week. Last week he had 82 yards. This week he had 90 yards. No Drake London just makes it really accessible for him to be relevant. If London is back next week, I would probably bail out. I agree. But Loveland, Colson Loveland, who got in the end zone, didn't have a big game for 29, but got a touchdown. It is worth noting. Like if Rome is out, there is fantasy value to be had there because the issue with the Bears has been just.

46:25 ↗

they're spreading it around too much with Burton and Loveland and Rome and, you know, and DJ Moore. Now I think Rome's going to miss a couple weeks. All right. Well, Loveland was four for 29 and one over the last six weeks. He is the tight in three in total fantasy points. Wow. Let's take a break and talk duds. Here's the typical holiday pattern. Houston has a really tremendous defense. Did you guys, were you aware of that? They have not given up a quarterback one performance on the year. They've played Josh Allen. Now they've played Patrick Mahomes. I said I would play Mahomes in this matchup. In hindsight, would you? I would not. In hindsight, I would certainly not play Mahomes. 163 picks, no touchdowns. But don't throw them away because they're going to be fighting for their playoff lives and they play Tennessee in two weeks. They play two more home games, the Chargers in Denver. That Denver game. The Denver game's tough. Yeah, but I think in the next couple weeks you could do worse for sure. Oh, man. You know the whole an immovable force versus the unstoppable. Yeah. Whatever. Yeah. You realize that next week there is a team playing that has not given up a top 12 performance to the quarterback against a team who has a quarterback that is not.

50:19 ↗

not finished in the top 12 all season. Not not. Not not. Who's there? So, so. We're back. Every time, man. I love it. Yeah. So, tell us the match. Is Jacoby Brissette playable? The guy who can't stop? I would, yes Houston. Yeah. No. No. No, no way. This will be the end of this streak. He, he, Cardinals are. Garbage to his way. Cardinals are playing like tryout dudes at wide receiver right now. People that have never like. Their jerseys are blank on them back. They don't have the names. That's just magic markering it. It just says player. The Cardinal season is so over and I have to restrain myself from what I say on this show about the Cardinals. Leave them. Leave them. Who cares? Let me just say this. I would love it if Jonathan Gannon wanted to be an astronaut because I would love to see him in outer space. Yeah. It'd be cool if he was the first, like, astronaut.

51:21 ↗

do you like that falcon to land on the sun you know the first astronaut to explore the sun i'm just saying i would like him to have that honor yes so that we can explore the universe remember him fondly space suit what a hero what a hero he touched the sun jonathan icarus cannon i there would i'm a greek mythology joke the uh admit it There was a part of you that thought we were waking up to the big surprise. No, you didn't? I thought there was a chance we were waking up and Gannon was gone. Oh, I thought there was an after. You mean because he's a defensive minded head coach and we've given up 40 plus points to division mates for like five times this tier, but we never did that five times in 23 years. After yesterday's performance, I thought there was a chance. It's not really fair to Gannon because they invested their entire draft class on the defensive side of the ball. I, it could happen today, Mike. I still think it could happen.

52:21 ↗

It could. It could happen. Bo Nix, 31 for 38, Bo Nix, no touchdowns. It's the most Bo Nix dominant performance of all time. This dude's so weird. He is 31 of 38. Like that's a, that's a good game. He just feels like the guy and, and excuse me, Denver, I know you're amazing and you're 11 and 2 and you deserve all the credit sort of, but. It's not sort of. The team does. No, I know they do, but like maybe not Bo Nix. It just feels like there's like five cool guys, cool guys walking down the street and then Bo Nix is in the cool guy outfit. That's what it feels like to me. Okay. He wears the leather jacket and the sunglasses, but if he tried to smoke a cigarette, he would choke. Do you know what I mean? Yeah, yeah, yeah. All right. I got you. I need to stop making analogies today.

53:14 ↗

Baker Mayfield struggled big time, 122 passing yards. You can say all you want about Abuca and he struggled, but 122 total passing yards. That's insane. Because seven uncought targets to Bucca. He needs to just start throwing it to Tess. Well, you can't catch every target, Jay. And if you watch this game, you'd understand that there was some nastiness in there. Tyler Shuck played well. Yeah, but what did he throw for under 200 as well? Yeah. It's crazy. More than Baker. That game was rainy. That was, it was a very bad weather game. It was our one feather in the cap of our, of our dome, big dome. Their stat lines are actually very, very close except Baker didn't have two rushing touchdowns. Disappointing running backs. Are you worried about any of them? Breeze Hall, Ashton Janty, Quinchon Judkins, Kenneth Walker. I'm not going to put Chris Rodriguez in there. Rodriguez was great. No, 10 from 52 against Minnesota with. That one doesn't make sense.
