NFL Draft Recap: AFC Winners & Losers + Swag vs Flash - Fantasy Football Podcast for 5/4

For a little while, I know some of the fans in that area were going to the draft saying, there's no way Ryan Tanna Hill is the week one starter. That was before this. I do believe Ryan Tanna Hill will absolutely be the starter, barring a trade. But it's good draft capital for Will Levis. It's better to me than the 33. They traded up to get him when he slipped into the second round. And it's so unfortunate for him because it did. We just talked about the Colts, and they basically said if Anthony Richardson was gone, they would have taken him at number four. That is a year less and millions of dollars less that changed not based on his football play, but just based on how the draft board fell ahead of him. Chalenberg's Chigua, do come out as winners in this draft. There's not competition that was drafted that is going to challenge them. And if Tannow, look, they're going to, they didn't trade Derek Henry. They didn't move on from Ryan Tannale yet.

There seems to be some momentum that they may just try to run this thing back a little bit. See how it goes before they make those moves. If that's the case, Trailing Berks is going to be a top target for Tanna Hill who can throw the football. Chiga Conquo is going to have an opportunity to extend the field at the tight end position in the year two. Malique Wallace's career is over before it started. It is. And let's move on. Oh, we got to pour one out. Hassan Haskins. Yeah. Do we? Nasty. Oh, Jason and I do. Oh, he was a.

He's got a championship. He does. Spears is a good pick. Did you like the Spears pick? Yes, I loved Spears tape out of Tulane. He's a very interesting player. He's not a Derek Henry. There's a running back. Yeah, yeah. It is. He will move up very quickly to be the backup. And then there was, we got some medical reports so that he might have a, a bum knee kind of already, an arthritic knee. So that will limit his time in the NFL. But in terms of. running back shelf life, the knee will probably hold up for the contract. It is an ironic situation for him because the two ACL tears and the fact that his knee seems like it's going to be, he'll have a three or four year career, is awkward landing spot to go to a place where you're the clear backup and year one, you're not going to really be used. That's why I said maybe or not yet on the Derek Henry trade, because I think if they found a taker for him, you know, now they have someone there that can kind of step in as a starting running back. So TBD on that.

Jacksonville. Not a lot to talk about here. They did spend a third round draft pick on a running back Tank Bigsby. A second rounder on Britain Strange, tight end. They've talked about an extension for Evan Ingram. Look, I don't view, I don't see any big winners and losers in Jacksonville, if I'm honest with you. I don't think that the third round draft capital on Tank Bigsby impacts my view of Travis E.T.N. any more than Jamichael Hastie did. Oh, what? I think it impacts it to me. I mean, a day two running back, who was my running back for pre-draft, I think he's a really solid running back. He's 210 pounds, has nice one cutability. And you had the head coach coming out and saying a lot of talk about wanting to employ more of a committee that they need to get more bodies in here. And the hope was that when they signed to Ernest Johnson, that was the...

Like, oh, good, you got Deer and his Johnson, get more bodies in there. And then Travis E.T.N. Full steam ahead. As, you know, in our main dynasty league, I've got Travis E.T.N. I was a little, I'm a little worried about what the split could look like with Tank. Because I think tanks are really good running back. And to use a day two pick on him. It says, I think he'll, you know, he's going to have what? 125 carries. No, I don't think so. I don't think he'll have that much work. I mean, I think Travis ETN is a very, very.

special player. I think you saw last year the team dealt with multiple injuries at the position. So I don't blame them for using a pick. But I mean, we've been here before, in my opinion, with players like Kishon Vaughn drafted higher than this, that, you know, you don't know what that opportunity is going to be. And I'm not scared yet. I don't see why. I don't, I don't think T. Bigsby is a better player than Travis C-T or close to it. So you're going to need a compliment on all of these teams. And it just, to me, it's a replacement for a Jim Michael Hastie.

or Dearness Johnson with another young back that can get it done. I'm looking at like the way that they started the year, though. I mean, you had James Robinson getting 13, 25, 20 opportunities over the first three weeks. And then, I mean, eventually it was pretty clear to the team of we can't keep giving this guy the ball. And then Travis E.T. and Rose. And he had that huge spike right in the middle of the season where it looked like. This will never end. Travis E.TN is going to be fantastic for fantasy football. It kind of fell off there, though, after that happened. So I have concerned that ETN is the main guy. That's not the concern, but it's the timeshare will change to be closer to that week one through three where there is another player that is heavily involved. That's my concern. Look, I don't.

I don't love the part of the year where we're, I don't want people to go out and trade Travis ETN on this news personally. Not what I'm saying. When I'm talking redrafts. Yeah, I mean, ETN got hurt. He played 8% of snaps after the buy week. And that was this, that was an issue for him at the end of the year. Obviously, Hasty made people very frustrated when he was splitting some time getting the touchdowns, even when ETN was still in the field. So, I mean, look, it's, it's your viewpoint of whether these rookies are all going to have a big role or not. I like to see.

third round and beyond prove it in camp before I would worry about ETN too much. So to your point, Jason, I think you're just fine in Dynasty personally. You can see, if you wouldn't like to trade, Travis Etienne, to me, I am very interested in him. I'm open to him. The same before the trade, before the drafting of Tank Biggs. That's good because I think he's going to be a top three dynasty running back clearly, so we'll talk trades. Interesting. Yeah, I mean, he's clearly the best. Yeah, the value has been set. Top three, top three rounds. Come get him. Right. AFC North, the Browns. Third round draft pick, first pick for them. Because they got Voldemort. Yeah. Yeah. So their first pick, Cedric Tillman, wide receiver. Not my favorite landing spot for him. They have Amari Cooper. They have now Elijah Moore. They have Donovan People's Jones. And then they have.

David Bell? David Bell from last season. So honestly, probably a bottom, one of the worst spots I think you can land as a wide receiver. I'm not sure that they view the hodgepodge of receivers that you just named, including David Bell, as answers. Amari Cooper's awesome. Amari Cooper's awesome. And I think they drafted Ced Tendrick Tillman to be the number two. I don't think Donovan People's Jones and David Bell are guys that are good enough. I believe Cedric Tillman is a very good wide receiver. One of the better big bodied wide receivers in this draft. There weren't very many of them, him and Mingo and some injured guys. And of course, Quentin Johnston. But yeah, to me, it's a matter of do you believe in Deshaun Watson? Because if you believe in Deshaun Watson that he's going to be a great quarterback going forward, then I find the landing spots are better or worse based on quarterback play rather than depth chart.

I think that it's a matter of do you believe Cedric Tillman is talented and do you believe Deshawn Watson is? Do you believe David Bell's talented? I don't. Do you believe Donovan Peoples Jones is talented? Mediocre, a jack. I think he's talented, but he's on the last year. Didn't you like David Bell last year? I liked him. Before he and NFL draft. There's plenty of draft. We've talked about this a lot recently where when a wide receiver comes out and really stinks it up in his rookie year, it is rare for them to get over the hump and say, no, I'm really good. I just.

had an off rookie season. So like when you look at Skymore for the Chiefs, when you look at David Bell for the Browns, they're not dead. They're coming into their year too, but I am pessimistic because they both had huge opportunities to play and to succeed in the rookie year. And neither one of them showed those flashes, showed those signs of like, man, this guy looks legit. David, David Bell appeared in every game except for one. Yeah, the opportunity was there. He was getting on the field. He just wasn't earning snaps or targets. So my long-term view on David Bell is very pessimistic. No competition for Nick Chubb selected in this draft. And Kareem Hunt gone. Also, Jerome Ford looks like someone that should be picked up, certainly in every dynasty league if he's out on waivers. And I mean, he's a...

Apparently, the number two as of now, they could still go out and sign someone, but... They could sign Kareem Hunt. They could bring Kareem Hunt back. Absolutely, they could. If I'm Kreme Hunt, I would be like, I hate you, no. But when I was, when I was starting to start... I would take the money. When I was starting to stat things out for the ultimate draft kit, and I'm putting these players in their depth charts, one of the big winners here for me was Nick Chub. I was like, man. They could give him an insane workload this year. So I've always, of the three of us, been more down on Nick Chubb, usually when our rankings first come out and are finished, and I don't expect to be this year. How do you view? Okay, yeah, let's just move on. The Steelers, not a lot to talk about. They did sort of steal Darnel Washington later in this draft. It's interesting just because, you know, Pat Frymanus is near the top of Dynasty draft boards at tight end.

top 10 type of pick. Darnell Washington is a freak of nature. But very, you know, does it impact your long-term view of Pat Fryer Meath? It doesn't to me. I think Darnell Washington, his comp has been Mercedes-Lewis. He is a giant road grading, incredible blocking tight end. They'll leak him out and it's going to be hard to tackle the mountain. you know, if he catches the ball. But for the most part, he's not going to be the move tight end. He's not going to be running the routes. I think actually Darnel Washington and Broderick Jones, their first round offensive tackle, this is really good for the Steelers' offense because their big issue has been protection. Their offensive line has sucked. So Najee Harris, Jalen Warren, the pass catchers, Kenny Pickett. This is a good draft for the existing players to me because they didn't bring in any other skill position players other than...

primarily this great blocking tight-in. And there's also concerns with the tight end with his, I believe it was his knee medical issue. Yeah, he fell for medicals. Which is why he fell so far in the draft. Yeah, a lot of tightens went ahead of him. Naji Harris comes out a winner, as does Jalen Warren in this draft. They didn't obviously make any other investments at running back, and yet they improve the offensive line and the blocking. The Ravens drafted Zay Flowers with their first overall pick. Let's go. 22 overall. They are amassing some weapons for Lamar Jackson, the newly minted contract, Odell Beckham, Rashad Bateman back healthy, Zay Flowers, Mark Andrews. It's a good pick. I think he's a very good player. And I think this is, this is what we saw coming for, like, let me put it this way.

I told people to trade Rashad Bateman. Does the drafting of Zave Flowers change your opinion on Bateman? Yes. This is a worse situation for Bateman than what Bateman was in prior. For sure, he is, you know, this is an offense where I believe they're going to pass them a lot more this year. I think Lamar Jackson is going to have a lot more passing yards, but it's not going to be one of those Justin Herbert 5,000 passing yards because. you're probably going to have a thousand total yards or near that coming from Lamar Jackson's legs, and those don't go to wide receivers. So now you split up the pie. It's not necessarily the best landing spot for Zay Flowers or for O'Dell Beckham. And those two guys aren't good for Rashad Bateman. But holy moly, do those three combine with a healthy Mark Andrews to be Lamar Jackson to the moon, in my opinion? He is the quarterback that I'm getting in every best ball draft right now.

I think he has as high a potential as Jalen Hertz, as Josh Allen to finish as the number one quarterback. And he's not going to be drafted as the number one quarterback this year. So that's just my take on the situation. But I agree with you, Andy. It was a win if you sold Bateman. And that's not because Bateman's bad, just because his situation got worse. The whole situation for the Ravens Wide Receivers will be fascinating to watch because I think everything about it is exciting. It's tantalizing. You see the upside. And yet you have no idea what's going to happen here. Like, is Odo Beckham washed after that, after another ACL tear? I don't know. Probably. It's pretty possible. I know that they gave him all the money, but it's very possible that Odo Beckham is done. Is Rashad Bateman worth a first round pick when they took him two years ago? I don't know. He looked pretty good in those first couple games. Look.

Let me read you the passing yardage for Lamar Jackson over the last four years when he did have good receivers. When he had good receivers. Both and. I'm saying he had years where he had good receivers. He's had Hollywood Brown as a part of that offense before. His MVP year, he threw for 3,100 yards. The three subsequent years, 2,700, 2,800, 2,200. So like Jason said, the reason that he supplied incredible passing fantasy value. in his MVP season was he threw 36 touchdowns at a 9% touchdown rate. So his wide receiver room is very improved. I think stability for Lamar Jackson week to week, which has been a huge problem in terms of a game log. Oh, great. There he is. Oh, no, he's gone. I think that changes when you have some weapons that you can count on. But rookie, wash wide receiver, injury laden Bateman.

There are question marks to me. I'm saying it's wide open of who's the number one wide receiver on this team. It could be any of the three. It's Mark Andrews. I'm not counting number one pass catcher. It is Mark Andrews. I don't disagree with that. But from the wide receiver position, of the three, I would put my bet on flowers right now. Didn't they have the season with Lamar where no wide receivers caught a touchdown for the entire year until the very end? I was going to say that for redraft purposes. I'm not drafting any of their wide receivers. I'm not grabbing Bateman. I'm not grabbing flowers. I'll go in. I'm in on. I'm in on Andrews. I'm in on Lamar. Keep in mind, Greg Roman's gone. Todd Monkin is in. So you know he wants to throw it a lot and air raid the system out. It'll be interesting. I mean, the, uh, Lamar's got to stay healthy. Also, I'm in love with all the weapons in the world. If he's on the bench, he can't do anything. That's pretty important. I'm also in love with J.K. Dobbins. He is.

one year removed. And I think JK2 legs, Dobbins. Yeah, can we have two strong legs? He's got two strong legs. JK2K? Oh, JK2 leg? Two leg. No, no. I'm just trying to see how big this production. The situation here is it's him and the Gus bus and, you know, they didn't add any running backs in this draft. So they are confident about his health. He's still only 24 years old. I really like JK2 leg. JK2. It's very fun to me. Yeah, it's not every day you can get a nickname for the normal amount of legs everybody has. Right. Cincinnati, coming off the 12 and 4 season, you know, Chase Brown, fifth round, rookie, running back, whatever. That's not a draft. That's not a draft pick to make a foundation of your Super Bowl contending running back room. So to me, this is a little insightful on the Joe Mixen saga because they have to add somebody in free agency or Joe Mixen's playing football for the Bengals. And if he is,

Then all the best ball investments right now, all of the dynasty trades right now are the sneakiest little picks you can make. Where Joe Mixon is going in best ball right now is delicious. Because I agree with you, Andy. It has to be an expectation that currently Joe Mixon is going to be the starting running back. P. Ryan's gone. Pyrine is gone. The situation is good. Pyrine being gone is actually why I am interested in Chase Brown. Chase Brown was a very productive running back. His last season, he had 328 carries, 1,343 rushing yards, and caught 27 passes. So his production is elite. He's a little bit older for a running back. And he finds himself lighter too. He finds himself in a situation, yeah, 205, finds himself in a situation without P. Ryan where he could just be the backup.

right off the bat and then of course should any legal situation take a turn yeah no that's the fair fair estimation there for brown is that you know what happens with mixon does he get a suspension if if if something happens and mixon moves they will probably bring in a free agent like zeke but this the the ambiguous situation that's why uh travion williams should be on your dynasty bench and that's why chase brown is worth. Yeah, I think the Trayvion mentioned is very important. And so, yeah, we're adding Williams and then Brown in like the third round of a rookie draft. Those picks are probably going to be set on fire anyways. The upside, I can at least convince myself of a story where Chase Brown becomes important. Speaking of setting picks on fire, I plan to set a lot of picks on fire again on Big Irv, baby, Irv Smith, Jr.

I will be drafting him with my last pick in redraft leagues at tight-in. He was a big winner. And he will super disappoint this year like he has every single year. But the situation couldn't be better. They were a home for Dalton Kincaid or Michael Mayer or Leporta or a tight end of any shape and size. And they took none of them. At home was for Big Earf. Big Irv Smith. They said, hey, a guy who doesn't generally play any games. He's our guy. Let's rely on him. Let's rely on him. What's the rest of that depth chart? I think they re-signed Drew's sample. If that's all you've got to beat out. Big Earp. Stay healthy. Ironically, Big Irv has a very small sample size. Oh, very nice. So, yeah, no, Big Irv right now. He's going to swerve. He's going to get overhyped for this all offseason. So be ready for that. By me. The Jets.

The Jets drafted one of the better centers in the draft in the second round. They drafted another running back to compliment Mr. Brees Hall, probably puts Michael Carter even further on the outskirts of fantasy relevance. Israel Abandakonda, who you love, Jason. I really did like Abanaconda. I thought he has great breakaway runs. He's not necessarily a tackle breaker, which is rare because usually... The breakaway runs come from like breaking a tackle and then going. He needs that crease, that seam. So not really breakaways? They're more like sprintaways? Getaways? Getaways? He gets away from people. He doesn't get a touch. He doesn't break away from people. No, he's the getaway driver. But I really did like him. And obviously, I would have really loved considering that Bam is there and Michael Carter are there. They have backups on the roster right now that are at least legitimate.

I would have really enjoyed the confidence of leaving this draft without adding a running back. I know it's only a fifth round pick, but it says, hey, our running back room is solid. We know Breece is extremely healthy and we can rely on him this year. The fact that they took someone who kind of has a, he's not, I don't want to say he's got the brief skill set. Breeze is elite. Izzy is not. But he has that same, he's got a lot in common with him. The reason I liked Izzy is a lot of the same reasons. It's the same type of.

things I enjoy in my running backs, the ability to hit the outside before others, to take a ball to the house. So I just, it does make me question how high I'm willing to be confident on Breece right now. Yeah, their fourth pick. The Jets' fourth pick in the draft. The Patriots, they went with the daring kicker punter combo in the draft. Fourth round, six round kicker punter. Combo? Chad Ryland? They also... Mean? Give me... Oh, I see. Yeah, Kyle knows. Kyle's cracking up back there. No, I'm just laughing if they took a kicker. They're dumb. No, you're thinking about boom, boom. I mean... Oh, you're looking for rhymes? Rylans? I mean... We could do some work with that. It's right there. Okay. Right there. Kayshan, I don't know if it's right there, because I'm not sure I'm following what you're saying. Island? Oh, you're just...

That's what's right there. Yeah, the rhyme. I mean, names rhyme with words. Pretty common. Yeah, but Ryan was really hoping you meant that you had something else that you had found. Oh. I mean, yes. I thought there were some innuendo I was missing. Oh, no. I do connect with Island. Yeah. But I was hoping for something better. Speaking of innuendo. I keep it clean. Boote. Kib booty. Kishon Booty. Six round. In the six round. The Patriots have a knack. Don't. They have an act for doing two things. One is they draft guys who were extremely high recruits out of high school. They love high school stance. Booty was as... Reclamation projects or something? As big of a recruit as you could possibly have that year, a five-star prospect supposed to be the next special thing. The second thing they're good at doing is being a wide receiver graveyard.

They don't know how to develop wide receivers. And the fact that Kashon Booty has had his development go backwards from his incredibly awesome rookie year at LSU gives me a lack of confidence with this landing spot because he's someone that you need to pay attention to because of what he has done in the past. He got injured and had a couple bad seasons. So you can write it off and say it was because of injury. He's still a young man. But the fact that he went to a place that doesn't develop wide receivers well historically makes me sound. No, Ramadre Stevenson and Taekwon Thornton are big winners. Thornton, you know, is going to have a huge opportunity this year. I liked what I saw in the field in limited times last year. And look, Jacoby Myers is gone. They don't have the competition there. And they didn't invest one of their top. I mean, they drafted a kicker in the fourth round. Yeah. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven picks.

Before they invested in a wide receiver. Devante Parker is still there. I like Thornton. And I like Stevenson's situation now that they didn't invest in a running back. They were another place that we thought, you know, maybe you'd see a, if it's not Bijan, it was, you know, Charbonnet or somebody going there to be a major competitor for Fumblson. Well, he probably, he probably was. And then Pete Carroll. Yeah. Yeah. So. Yeah, no, this is, Ramandri is a massive winner and should be extremely exciting. They got rid of Damien Harris. Mac Jones is a winner just because they didn't replace him. Yeah. I don't know if he's a winner because I feel like they should have added something for him. They got rid of Jacobi Myers and are saying, here's some booty. Yeah, when the depth chart already there, they're the winners, the quarterback's probably the loser. Yeah. You don't think that they went in and they were like, hey buddy, booty call. Oh.

Let's go get some Ws. Let's go get some Ws. The Dolphins. They invested their second pick in the draft. They only had four picks. Yeah. And they invested the second pick in the draft in Devon A chain. They used a quarter of their draft. Mike McDaniel lobbied heavily for the tiny, speedy, electric, miniature. Devon H.A. He should be 100% in consideration for the number three rookie running back based on this landing spot. This is a player who pre-draft. I did not believe would find a role that allows him to be successful at his weight. He's 189 pounds. We've talked a lot in the offseason if you haven't been with us about the fact that those guys just don't get opportunity. Even if they're great, even if they have a good NFL career for fantasy purposes, they don't.
