WR & TE Rookie Preview + Tough in the Streams - Fantasy Football Podcast for 4/8

Isn't that the headline message here, or is it all? That is a message that we could be saying, and I usually am saying. Kyle Pitts, just like we were talking about with Jamar, Kyle Pitts could easily be a top five pick overall in the NFL draft. He is a tight end, the likes of we just haven't seen in a really long time. Athletically, the closest comp you can give him is Vernon Davis. And if you haven't been playing.

fantasy long enough to remember who Vernon Davis was athletically. Unbelievable. It was, it, it, it is Calvin Johnson mold breaking. You, you are the, the test is now named after you. Right. That's, that's how incredible Vernon Davis was. And Kyle Pitts is, is right there with him. He's humongous. Uh, his, it's, six, six, two 46. And it's not just being, it's not just being fast. He is.

You could call him a wide receiver. I think an NFL team could draft him as a wide receiver, but he still can do the things that a tight end can do because he's that big. He's not the best blocker, but he's fine. He is absolutely good enough. He's the first tight end in college football history to be a finalist for the Bolitnikov Award, which is the most outstanding receiver in college football. Precisely.

I mean, that is incredible. And then he did nothing on Pro Day other than continue to tell you why he was out of the ordinary. He has the largest wingspan in the history of tight ends. So his catch radius is larger than everybody else. Now, Jason reminds us, first round tight ends have not really worked out for fantasy since 2007 with Greg Olson. Yes. So do you have to wait?

You draft them and you wait. Possibly. If he goes to Cincinnati, it's fine. In this landscape of tight ends, Kyle Pitts is probably someone I'm willing to take the chance on. The bigger question, because we're in dynasty mode right now in rookie picks, is at what point in the first round do you take Kyle Pitts? I mean, the 105-106 is kind of where...

mentally I have slotted him because I'm putting the big three running backs and the top two wide receivers in front of him. But is that right? Is that the right thing to do? Yeah, you could make a case to take him even sooner. Should he be the third pick in your rookie draft? Should he be the second pick? I mean, it's maybe. And we're talking single quarterback right now. Maybe. I mean, we know the difference when you get one of those guys at tight end. If you had the chance to grab a Travis Kelsey.

in a Dynasty League and get 10 years out of it or even a Rob Grancowski or a, you know, one of those players. You can't even place a value on that. No, especially with just the rarity. So the rarity factor, if you believe that Pitts represents the most can't miss tight-in prospect in the history of the NFL draft, then yes, you can make a compelling argument that he belongs. Depending on where the wide receivers go. Sure. He could be the number two. Right.

But I'm in. He does not disappoint when you're watching him. And that's what is insane about Kyle Pitts, you know, is you already, if you're a talent scout or just you're watching for trying to break down film and you're jumping in now, you've already heard all the hype about Kyle Pitts. And then you're going to watch him and go, holy crap. What, what?

There was, oh, from Star Wars, like the Force Awakens, when Ray asks on Solo, you know, I've heard all the stories. Are they true? And he's like, all of them. All of it is true. All of the stories you've heard about Kyle Pitts are true. I think that's an appropriate level of Kyle Pitts hype, Brooks. Did we get there? Yeah, thank you. Did we reach the level that we needed? Yes. All right, let's talk about.

I think you have him as your number two. He is my number two. He is. He's my number two as well. Okay. Brevin Jordan. Yeah. Out of Miami. 6.3, 245. Um, great after the catch. Great speed. Was an impact player for Miami in eight games in 2020, seven touchdowns. Um, size wise, comps wise, Johnny Smith might be a good one. People would be very excited for Brevin Jordan if Kyle Pitts.

wasn't in this draft class. I don't think he's the first round talent. I'm just saying that the fantasy community would be very excited for Brevin, and that gets diluted through the Kyle Pitts. Where did Ingram go? 20s. In the NFL draft? Yeah, I think late 20s. Yeah, I mean, I guess that's where I would have maybe seen, like you said, could have been the Jordan Range, Brevin Jordan Range, second round. He should not be overlooked. So if you're not in range,

at all for the Kyle Pitts lottery in the rookie draft? It's all right. Like Brevin Jordan could be a good consolation shot. For all the hype, you know, that I'm spewing for Kyle Pitts, players with, you know, things just don't work out. So don't freak out that you didn't get Kyle Pitts in your rookie draft and just grab Brevin Jordan in the second round. And Jason's number two tight end, rookie tight end is Pat Fryermuth out of Notre Dame? Or was it? Penn. Penn State. Sorry.

I get those – I'm picturing the jerseys in my head, and I'm getting those – white helmet, not gold. I liked him. I thought he was very solid. I think he will probably go ahead of Brevin Jordan in the NFL drafts, so take that for what you will. I think both Jordan and Friamuth are going to be holds. I mean, that's what tight-ins really are in rookie drafts.

And then if you want to go deeper leagues, you've got the actual reception leader at the tight-in position Hunter Long that will go later on. And then Kenny Yaboah is kind of a... Your boy, Kenny, Kenny, you boy. He's kind of a late-round athletic freak that could flash. But I think you and I both like Jordan as a fantasy prospect a little bit more than Friamuth. Yeah. But all three of them are interesting. For Friamuth, it was... I mean, he has a bunch of touchdowns, but...

Really most of them are third inside the five, and then they run a play action, and then there's Pat wide open. I'm not going to knock him for succeeding in that role, but I like, you know, in the year, I guess maybe a bad example, because they all busted, well, sort of. But the O.J. Howard year, I wanted Evan Engram. I want the athletic pass-catching tight end where.

I prefer that over the guys who are, well, they're over at Hawkinson. Kyle Rudolph. We talk, yeah. Austin Hooper. Yeah, just those are good tight ends. Those are good tight ends, but we're playing fantasy football. So I want production. And this is the Noah Fant versus T.J. Hawkinson. And I'll just take Kyle Pitts, please. And I would have taken, I would have taken fan. Yes. Can I get Kyle Pitts?
