You know, we've seen that with Derek Henry and with other absolute superstar physical freaks of nature, of which he is. We see that with his two-year older brother who's in the Super Bowl as well. You know, this is someone you've got to continue to bet on. And I think you laid it out very well. You know the chiefs are going to throw the ball. Who? Are they throwing it two if not Kelsey? Who? Answer me that. Did you just try and spin? Oh, no, let him have it. No, I will not. I will not. I thought I, it was professional. You tried to spin the mucus sandwich into a dramatic moment of tears? I did not try. My guy succeeded. Oh, he succeeded. How dare you? The people were with me. They were in tears. I was about to get my Oscar.
I loved it, and I was going to let you have it. Here's a couple things that I want to bring up. I will never. Travis Kelsey, 33 years old. Antonio Gates during his year 34 season, 12 touchdowns, 821 yards near a career high in receptions. 820 yards is not going to get it done. Like if you draft him. It's not about him putting up numbers that Kelsey puts up. It's about him putting up numbers that are consistent with his career. And he wasn't a 12, 1,300 yard guy. He was just a touchdown and 800-yard guy. You know, he had a very good year in this year 34 season. He had seven touchdowns and 600 yards in a year 36. So that's my way of saying. I think Kelsey's got at least one more leading the parade season in him. And then probably two more, if he's around, contract and all that, being relevant for fantasy seasons. If he wants to play football, that's the other question. Do you remember when we thought Gronk was the most dominant tight end ever?
I'm looking at this career log from Kelsey. He's the tight end one. Last year he's a tight end two. Yeah. Then one, one, one, one. He's going to go pretty much a decade being the wide receiver one. So just draft him as that. And if you knew for sure, and we don't obviously, but if we knew for sure that he was going to do next year what he did this year, then he has absolutely worth the 104. T.J. Hockinson was the tight in two. And that's all you need to hear to know how the rest of tight ends were. Now, Kelsey was the number one inconsistency, of course, first half, second half. Hawkinson was three in consistency, fifth in the first half, fourth in the second. But it was a good run for T.J. Hawkinson. He was very necessary for this team, 914-yard six touchdowns. That is a massive gap. What week was he traded? Was it 10? It was after week eight.
Okay, after week eight. So he went 7, 10, 14, 6. I mean, yeah, you're right, Jason. That's all you need to say. Travis Kelsey was just so far and away better than even T.J. Hawkinson at number two. 53% great games, 24% busts, 12% great. Travis Kelsey scored 206 fantasy points, half PPR. George Kittle was the next highest total fantasy points at 140. T.J. Hawkinson had 129. is what I'm seeing. For just total, total fantasy points. I'm just saying the gap. Where are you seeing this? I'm on this. Oh, this is standard scoring. It's still true data. You're falling apart. It's still true data. So, DJ Hawkinson had 172 fantasy points. And Kelsey was 261 in half point. I mean, almost a hundred more points. I'm saying the gap between him and everyone else is.
The interesting thing for me to look at for T.J. Hawkinson is after he got traded, I'm going to go ahead and I'm going to take out Week 18 when he played 46% of the snaps. It was like they didn't need him. They had everything was kind of locked up, so they didn't play him for a full game. But weeks 9 through 17, that's nine games. His pace would have been 160 targets, 111 receptions, 950 yards, and about six touchdowns. If those are the types of numbers that he is going to give you, then, I mean, then T.J. Hawkinson, man, like where does, where does T.J. Hawkinson get drafted? Behind Andrews, assuming Lamar's back, probably behind Kittle with the way he finished the season because Kittles' potential we've seen it. He broke the NFL receiving record at tight end for a minute.
Well, actually, it was Kelsey that broke it for a minute, and Kittle took it, right? Yes, the opposite. I think the opposite. Kittle broke it for a minute. Kelsey got it. But he'll be right there with Kittle. I think it'll be some leagues, Hawkinson. Fourth round? Yeah, that seems about right. That's where the tight-in four went last year, and that was Kittle last year. So Hawkinson, this year, on into the future, the investment they made. He had a couple of those monster performances, 8 for 179, 13 for 109. A couple touchdowns in each of them. Much better against bad defenses. If the Vikings move forward with what could happen of Adam Thielen, he's a cap casualty for this season and he's no longer in the team. And maybe they make a splash in the draft and they bring in another big name wide receiver. Maybe they don't. Maybe it's Jefferson and KJ. Osborne. T.J. Hawkinson is going to be very interesting. Does his success, Jason, give you any sort of satisfaction?
It does a little bit because I was a T.J. Hawkinson truther. I loved his college film. Was he ever my guy? He wasn't, right? I don't think so, no. He was definitely on the board leading into it. He's been on the board that didn't make the cut, I think. But, yeah, I mean, I've always thought he's a good player. The issue is he has shown us over and over and over again that he's just not consistent enough to really get it done. I do agree with Mike, though. If he goes in next season as the number two, target for a good offense, you've got to bump him up a little bit and he might be worth that fourth round pick. Yeah, he still lacks the long-term go-to factor where like Kelsey's number one target. And I think Andrews is too, right? Those two guys are the primary targets on the team. I think you can win a game without Hawkinson because you have a Justin, Justin Jefferson or the running game. But he's in that upper echelon now. Kittle comes in at three because his consistency rank was five. He was drafted as the tight-in four.
I think it was a really tough year to evaluate George Kittle because you had multiple changes at quarterback. You had injury. And, you know, in the games he played, 53% good, 33% great. We know what Kittles capable of, but I don't know if people that drafted him in the fourth round really felt like they got, like they used that pick to their advantage. I would say no. I mean, because the fact that you missed the first two weeks with, what was it, the groin injury? Yeah. Was that what he was? I don't know. Yeah, I think it was a groin. And then you follow it up. You're very excited. You get your George Kittle back. Like, that's it. Lock him into my tight end spot. And you got tight end 23, 37, and 22. So now you are five weeks into the season and you are likely panicking or you have already panicked and tried to move on. So you didn't get the good run. I was like,
Overall, Kiddle had a fantastic year. I mean, to miss the first two weeks, everything that happened to him and still finished 60 reception, 765 and 11 touchdowns, and several, several weeks as a difference maker for fantasy football, it was a great season. But because of how the start happened, if you're looking at just draft pick, I think you would, you probably felt. extremely burned. He goes into the same category we talked about on the truth wide receivers of the San Francisco 49ers receivers. There's a, there's not a huge passing volume there, and there are great targets. If you look at, he had a ton of really, really bad games this here, and he had a lot of really, really good games.
But if you look at the four games, the Debo Samuel missed. Yeah, that's what I'm looking at right now, too. He's the tight end five. He's the tight end 12. He's the tight end one. He's the tight end two. He was awesome, awesome, awesome, awesome, awesome in those four games. And that's been the story of the last several years. And games where Brandon Ayuk is out, the games where Debo Samuel is out, they're like, oh, kiddle, you're up. And he's awesome. But in games where all three guys are available, it's not that he can't do it. It's just that he doesn't need to do it. And they added Christian McCaffrey now. So you add another weapon to the passing game.
Shanahan will pull a different weapon out to beat you every game. And because of that, he's still on a different level to me than Andrews and Kelsey. Yeah, I mean, when McCaffrey got there, you look at week 10, 11, 12, 13, three-fourths of those games were terrible with McCaffrey. And then that's when Debo goes down and Kittles back. So I'll be a little bit worried to draft Kittle next year. I was going to say, Kittle versus Hawkinson will be a discussion. Yeah. For a lot of people. Yeah, I mean, you've got probably higher highs with George Kittle, but a higher baseline with Hawkinson. Andrews came in at four? Early my guy. Weird year. For next year? Oh, I am all in on Mark Andrews next year. He was drafted as the time. He didn't know who the quarterback is. I mean, this is obviously presuming Lamar Jackson. You know, you don't get to obviously presume nothing. You're putting up a whole new world. This my guy crap. Okay.
We ain't never done this. Go put him on the board. Look, the only reason I say this is because I was at dinner last night. Early credit. That's fine. I'll go put him on the board. I was at dinner last night. We were talking through some tight ends. And I talked about how much I'm in love with. What breaking news? You like Mark Andrews? The value that I think Mark Andrews will have next season. He's going to get drafted high. But I don't think he will get drafted as high as he got drafted this season. Right. Higher. No. Yeah. I mean, obviously, Kelsey will be the number one tight-in drafted. For sure, without a question of a doubt. Now, Andrews will be the number two tight-in, but I could see him being at the two-three turn because of how much he sucked at the end of last year. That's where he got drafted. And he was worth it. Look at the beginning of the season. He was drafted at 301. The first six weeks of this season, he was better than Kelsey.
He was unbelievable. He got injured, then Lamar got injured, and then, you know, the season was over for him, and he sucked the rest of the way. It is, it is hard, though, to not know. I mean, we're going to get a, we're going to get some light out. That whole room is going to get some new names. Yes. So, so maybe you're right. Maybe he will be a value because there will be anticipation about Bateman's health. a new couple of wider seers, maybe a free agent and a rookie, there will be some hype around that situation for sure. And maybe that will make him a value if you believe the team will still function directly through Mark Andrews, which there's a new offensive coordinator coming in. There will be questions. So that may push him down a little bit. And then.
You know, he might be your my guy. That's what I'm saying is I think there will be enough questions to where people are not universally all in. People are going to be universally all in on Travis Kelsey. They're going to have questions and worries about Andrews because they're going to bring someone in. Remember, he was the tight-in one when Hollywood Brown was there. So it's not like another wide receiver there is going to stop him from being able to be valuable. Okay. Yeah, I think it's fair. He was consistency rank of seven. It hurt really bad not to have Lamar. I mean, weeks 11 through 17 were...
They were all like Groundhog Day. It was like, oh, this will be the week that Mark Andrews does his thing. He didn't. Never saw that shadow. No, and I don't expect that Kelsey's week 11 through 17 would have been Kelsey-esque if it was Chad Haney. Lamar was there 11 and 12. Yeah, and he was fine, 7 and 11. So, look, it all makes sense. The offense needs to get fixed. New offensive coordinator could deprioritize things. There will be more questions there around Mark Andrews. And, you know. I don't know if my confidence level is at the, uh, call it in February level, but, uh, but if, if you look at the truth of tight ends, right? That's, that's what we're trying to discuss here this year is like the truth of tight ends is one sentence. If you didn't draft Travis Kelsey, you had tight end problems. If you drafted Travis Kelsey, you absolutely crushed the tight end position. And so next year.
I think there's two guys, not just one, but I think there's two where you have to have them. Like everyone should draft those guys. I'm fully in on getting Kelsey or Andrews next year. That's going to be part of my strategy next year. Mike, if you had a win now team in Dynasty, like next year is your year. Okay. Are you moving Mark Andrews for Travis Kelsey? So in a Dynasty squad. Yep. I have Mark Andrews. It's another way of saying, do you agree with Jason that Andrews will be enough of a difference maker next year to make you not do that? Because the gap between Kelsey and Andrews this year, in the end, could have won you a league or lost you a league. In the end. I was pushing back against Jason because I think that overall Mark Andrews will be forgiven by the fantasy football community for the end of the year of you didn't have Lamar Jackson. You had no Lamar.
You had no other, like, wasn't Sammy Watkins on this team at some point? Like, they had nobody. And you had, I mean, you had Pro Bowl quarterback Snoop throwing the ball to Mark Andrews. So maybe that factors into people's decisions of where they draft Mark Andrews. But I think it's, if you wash it out, you remember that the beginning of the year, he was truly dominating. The only thing I'll say. So, no, I would not trade Andrews for Kelsey. I'll put this out there because we're a show that puts things out there. Well, he's had one, unlike Kelsey, who has been, you read the resume, right? One, two, one, one, one, one, one, no, no, no, no. Unlike Kelsey, he's had one, one, outlier year with the 145 targets over 100 receptions. The rest of his career has been.
You know, lower reception totals where Kelsey's at this massive height. So there is like a world where that was just a year like Andrews needed everything. Like I think you could paint that picture. If they brought in two wide receiver names, we're like, okay, we're never seeing 145 targets. He's, or no, he had 154. We have five seasons of Mark Andrews. He has surpassed 900 yards one time. Which, and I'm on team Mark Andrews, but like, like you do have years like that. I mean, there are, there are. tight ends that go out and have one monster a year. I mean, Kittal's kind of one of them, right? Like, Kittl had one monster, monster a year that made him worthy of maybe being the one. And then it changed. Absolutely. I mean, obviously you can, you can also say.
you know, since his rookie year, he's been a top five tight-in every year, including this year where he completely sucked. He was the tight-in four, the second half of the season. But, you know, before that knee injury, you talk about the season he got off to on the back of last season's dominating performance. And before that injury, he was on pace for 161 targets again, 1,300 yards and 14 touchdowns. So he was trending to repeat last year's great performance. But you're right. He didn't. because of whatever situation, and he only has last year as the true alpha domination. Taysom Hill, Mike. I don't know why it took us so long to get to him. Number five at Taiton. Taisalm Hill, the tight end of the Saints. One of the best tight ends in football is tight end Taislum Hill. Known for his past catching ability. Yes. Yes, what, he caught 69% of his target. That is pretty good. For a catch rate, that's very nice. Yes.
Now, the target totals, they were way up there, right? The 154? Did not surpass. He didn't surpass 50 receptions. Or 40, nor 40, nor 30, nor 20, nor 10. He had nine receptions. Nine receptions for tied in Tayson Hill. Undrafted by everybody but Papa Josh. Consistency rank of nine. I mean, this is, I think Mike's issues all stem from. This is not a traditional tight end. He gets categorized as the tight end. Traditional. He doesn't play the tight end position. He does, ish. Piquito. Yeah. But he doesn't play it in a way where his fantasy production comes from those snaps. It comes from taking snaps in the running game, throwing the football down the field. How many total pass attempts did he have this year? 19. Isn't that the same amount of total targets he had? 13. 13 targets. All right.
Now, isn't it impressive that he finished a tight in 10 if he passed the ball 19 times and caught the ball nine times? Tighten five? What did I say? Tighten 10? Yeah. So I get, so put him at running back. Okay. So regardless, we should he be a running back? Yes, he should be a running back. He has 96 rushing attempts and 13 targets. Wouldn't you just be complaining about the fact he gets the to throw the ball four times a game too? No. I would say go ahead, draft him. Yeah, I guess you'd wash it out. He has, he provided an advantage at this position. If you can finish it five by not being a tight end, maybe you're right. He had games where he helped win you a week, and then he had games where he cost you the entire week. If he's a tight end next year, he's still going to be involved in these offenses, and you're still going to have the wild card that is Taysam Hill. I agree. That's the truth. And I don't think I'm going to be very, um,
turned away by Derek Carr. If Derek Carr comes, I don't believe that he's going to take Tayson Hill off the field. You know, week one, they started with Jamis and Tayson Hill was the tight end three on the week. He's involved. Does he score? Does he make the one big throw? Evan Ingram comes in at six. He's interesting. He had a consistency rank of 11. First half it was 11. The second half he was tied for sixth in consistency. 47% good, 47% bust. Evan Ingram had a nice little run between weeks 13 through 16. That's really the story of the year for Evan Ingram. He was tied in two from week 13 on. So the playoff, you know, the imprint of Evan Ingram on your playoff run was significant. That was the first time in his career during that run that he hit double-digit fantasy points in four consecutive games.
He certainly wasn't necessary for this team to have success throughout the course of the year, but he did impress in those games. And to be fair, you know, I say it's interesting because he's got a great athletic profile. He's got an up-and-coming offense, an up-and-coming quarterback. Assuming he's re-signed. Right. He's a free agent, but I believe he'll be resigned. I think he wants to be back. I think they want to have him back to have the money to do it, and he earned a role. So assuming that he is back with Jacksonville, then he's interesting in that way. There are a lot of mouths to feed there. And when you're looking at reliability, he won't have reliability. We're past the tight ends with reliability. This is just tight ends with talent who can operate. Hit a spike week. Yeah, hit a spike week because you're going to have Calvin Ridley. Yeah, there's most that can't. So with Calvin Ridley added to this receiving core, Evaningham will be up and down.
At least we saw his ups. It reminds me a little bit of what Jared Cook was like for fantasy for a few years because the athleticism for Jared Cook was there. Like pre- Raiders? Yeah, I mean, even when he was with Green Bay. You know, you had a spike week here and there from Jared Cook. And I think Evan Ingram's physical profile allows that to happen. We saw it. He had a Monster Week 14 without it. He's nowhere near this finish. He's kind of had that, he had the mixing week of sorts for the tied-in position. That was the crazy, was that the bad weather game? 35 fantasy points in week 14. No, the bad weather was his second big. Okay. But, yeah, I mean, Evan Ingram gets his due because this is a short list of players that do. Because this is a list of players that don't. Cole Commet at 7, Pat Fryeuth at 8. Commet was 19th in consistency. It was a...
tiny, tiny spurt of success for Commet in weeks 8 through 10 that were touchdown dependent. He had seven touchdowns this year, just 50 catches. Second half, he was tied for sixth. Inconsistency. And was, what was the week? When you cut out of curiosity, because we give first and second half, are you cutting the season at the eight week mark or the nine week mark? The truth is it is cut after the nine week mark. So the first half is nine weeks and the second half is, from week 10 on interesting i think i'd cut it the other way well we just throwing it out there just because week 17 doesn't matter to people what what i will say you need to we're going to have to redo all these shows yeah with a new cut for sure is is take a look at so it was week six is when we got our first glimpse of of of justin fields
you know, starting to make some waves for fantasy. That was his first top 12 finish. He was the quarterback eight against the Washington Manders. So to me, I, and just watching the Chicago Bears offense, the first five weeks or so, I just throw them out of the sample, of like, this is what the team could be and could become. So that wasn't the breakout day for Colquamette. It took a couple weeks after that. But saying once the offense switched, that's when Colcomit started to get more and more involved. I'm certainly not saying I'm banging the drum here for Colt commit. He's going to be the sleeper tight end of 2023. But I think it's fair to look at the Bears' offense from that point because it was so, so different. I just am not that into the future of Colquette. I don't think that I can't paint the picture in my head.
of the scenario where he becomes something that you're looking forward to in fantasy. He was busting at 60% this year. He's a super talented guy. They had no wide receivers and he still didn't do it. That was with Mooney gone. They're going to add someone in the off season. And they don't throw the ball as much. Exactly. It's going to be still a small passing pie and more people to, the interesting name to me is Pat Fryer. Yeah, I'm much more interested in. Friar Muth was actually pretty darn good. He was the first half of the season, which obviously is the first nine weeks. He was tied for six in consistency. And then remember at the very end of the year, he got injured. That was really frustrating. Mike, you lived that experience with Friar Muth where he got injured. He played about the Mew. He did not miss games, but he was, you know, down at.
56% of snaps, 55% of snaps. That's not how he was on the season. He started the season 89, 81, 76, 73% of the snaps. And then he was hobbled and playing through stuff and had some bad games at the end of the season. So he was better this season than his, you know, per game season in total was. And now he has a rookie quarterback who is going to be better next year. I don't think that he's going to be a superstar. But he's certainly not going to be. a rookie in his second year he won't be a rookie technically you won't yeah i am 100% correct he will be his sophomore season i'm not sure it's going to get better i'm i'm pretty confident that with a well-run organization um you know tomlin this was a team that won a lot of games down the stretch with a full off season coming into his sophomore year i don't i don't it's not a sophomore year just to be clear it's not no that's you're talking about
Kenny Pickett. Oh, I'm sorry. Yeah. Kenny Pickett. I was, I was, you scared. I was like, what? Dude, I didn't delete a year of. I can't. I can't talk about players this deep in the tight end. He's 40 years old. I was still, I was, my brain got 17 pro balls. Bill Braskey. I was still processing Justin Fields. I, in my head, you were saying Justin Fields. Gotcha. was in a sophomore year. And I thought you were saying that because his first year was kind of Matt Nagy thrown out. And then I apologize. That's all right. Apology accepted. But my point is, I don't think he's going to be great. I do think you about Terry McLaurin? I do. I do. That was Antonio Gibson. That's right. Those are the next names on the list. Dalton Schultz was drafted as the tight-in six, did not deliver on that draft capital at all. His consistency was 16, finished at 10 at the position, dealt with a couple of injuries, had some spikes over the back half of the year that put them at eighth in consistency. But again, You draft them in the sixth round. You need to know you can lock that guy in every week. I don't think, you know, you can make, obviously he didn't have DAC for the beginning of the year, and that's going to disrupt things. But it was disappointing for fantasy players, regardless of how that, that shook out. I think should Dalton, well, Jason's pretty happy about that week. That's because you won a title of the minor roster. He was the number one tied in and championship. Does not mean that he had a good season. Over this, over the second half, it was, it was much better.
