The TRUTH About Fantasy QBs in 2018, Part 2

This is Touchdown Tommy. This is the plant man. The plant man himself. That's right, Phil Klan. The plant man is finally, this is sticking around. I've, I've casually, casually thrown and messed around with the plant man. Well, because he eats this diet that is. The plant man knows. He knows that he's, is he warshed for fantasy Jason proclaimed?

The beginning of the end for the Patriots so boldly beated your chest for it. And to be fair, they're in the Super Bowl. But also to be fair, they were pretty stinky for fantasy aside from Julian Edelman. Yeah, I mean, look. And so here we are, Tom Brady number 14, consistency rank of number 18. What do you make of the plant man?

The plant man is, I mean, obviously he's the goat. He's, he's been great for fantasy. He's been better for the NFL than he has been for fantasy. One touchdown, one passing touchdown in, or fewer, or fewer in half his games. I mean, that's a destruction of a fantasy. His consistency rank was number 18. And that means that he's a guy that hurt you more than he helped you. You have to be, you know, top 12.

And you couldn't always tell when it was coming. You could see that they want to run the ball. That's why they spent a first rounder on Sony Michelle. But when he got injured and they had to pass it a little bit more, he was able to do that. Tom Brady is great. I don't believe that he is himself washed up. But he's not a guy that good fantasy players, I believe, will rely on anymore. 2017, Brady was number three.

Yeah, and that's great. And that's kind of where he has lived for the past few years. He's been a top five guy. You've seen, I believe, what the Patriots want to do. They want to run the ball more. They want to zig while the NFL zags. That, you know, that's why they grabbed Sony Michelle. And I think it'll be both. It'll just be another Bill Belichick game planning where the times, once you are finally bought into Sony Michelle,

He's going to come out with two games, and Tom Brady's going to throw four touchdowns. Which is exactly what you don't want. You don't want to not be able to predict that the games right. The same issue I have with the running backs of New England, like, okay, Sony's going to be great next year. But I don't really want to draft him because I don't want to have to play the game of, oh, he just got five touches for no reason. It looked, the matchup looked perfect, and I just, I wasn't Belichick, and he, he built me. And so I, you know.

That same thing affects Tom Brady. And the issue, the reason I say great fantasy players aren't going to rely on Tom Brady is simply because his name costs way too much. But what if he goes late? What if, I mean, finishing 14th overall is going to put a ding on the fantasy value of Tom Brady. I would say most average leagues, there will be someone who grabs Tom Brady, you know, in the seventh round.

He's the greatest of all time. Like I said, he's been good for fantasy in the past. And I think you're not going to return value there. Not on Brady. Number 15, Mitch Trebisky. Jay Gris getting a little sweaty over there. Do bear's sweat? I doubt it. I'll bet they do. Well, I mean, it's like dogs. I mean, furry animals, I believe they do not perspire. The heat comes out of their mouth. Is that true?

Yeah, dogs don't sweat. That's why they pant because all the heats instead of your body. When we host, it's like the more you know comes. Hold on. You keep riffing. I got to find it. Comes from Mike Wright. This is like, get things right. You know. Look, we got to drop science on people from time to time. Yeah, apparently. But yes, so Mr. Biskey, getting hot and bothered.

I mean, I guess Jake Chris, I don't know what Mitchell's up to these days. Do you remember? He's, he's up to sucking in the Pro Bowl. Oh. Oh. In fairness, he was terrible in the Pro Bowl. Do you remember week four? I sure do. Look, America remembers. This is a day that will live in infamy because Mitch was, it was bad. It did not look like it was going to work out. We had a new head coach in place. We had.

We had dubbed Mitch Trubisky, the Jared Gough of the season to get a bounce back from an offensive coach. First three weeks, terrible. Then week four happened. Then is when I came out and firmly established, I mean, totally. I wish we had the clue. I doubled down. I tripled down. I quadrupled down. That Mitchell Trubisky will never be a great quarterback. Those were my words. And the fact that I double and tripled and quadrupled down.

This is your take in week four, Jay. Yeah, well, and then he goes out and throws, what was it, six touchdowns, something? It was 43 and a half fantasy points. I mean, it was unbelievable. And then he comes back with a game. And this is when you quintupled down. Yes, and then, and then boom, another good game. Boom, another good game. But the truth is, Mitchell Trubisky had, you know, we're talking, what is the truth of Trubisky?

We didn't doctor these rankings and make them serve our purposes. His consistency ranking was quarterback 24. He had games of 14, 14, 5, 8, 4, 10, 12. Like, these are games that crushed you. Yeah. You did not succeed with Mitchell Trubisky outside of a one month window from weeks 4 through 8 where he was...

Fantastic. You can see that in his percentage scores. 29% of his games were great. That's a strong number. That is a great number. That pretty much was that month plus week 10. But 43% good. That's bad. That is not good. That is bad. That is not good. That is bad. Here's the real bad one. 57% of the time he busted. Yeah, that's not in the top 16 quarterbacks. He helped ruin your week if you started him.

And so what is the truth of Mitch Trubisky? Yeah, I want to know where the flag is, Jason. My flag has not changed one bit. It's not half-mast. It's still you've got the skull and crossbones up top. Here's the thing. Jolly Roger. Here's the actual truth of what I believe about Mitch Trubisky, which has not changed, but because I was so adamant that he'll never be a great quarterback, I think it was taken to say that I think he outright sucks. I don't believe he can be a great quarterback.

But I love the system. I love Matt Nagy. People probably think that because I believe you said in one of these rants, you did say that he sucks. I don't have seen the tape. We do have tape. I would love to, I would love to see it because if I said that, I will apologize for that. Speaking of tape, Brooks, where's that highlight? That highlight reel. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. In honor of the people up north today, I am rocking shorts and flip flops. You're a terrible person. No, I just, look, they need to know that somebody out there can still do it. All right. Is it, let's, what is the truth next year? Is Mitchell Trebisky someone that you're, you're going to be on? I am definitely interested. I am not going to dub him the, the next great thing.

I am not going to chase the points of Mitch Trubisky, but like you said, you want a quarterback who can boom, boom, pow. Yes. And Mitch Trubisky will probably still be a late round guy, and he's shown that with his rushing ability, he can absolutely explode on any given week. Yeah, I mean, Cam Newton's always been a boom-bust guy, and he busted only 21% of the time, and that was with a busted shoulder.

So I'm going to stay away from Mitchell, but that's no surprise. All right. We're just going to pick and shoes from quarterback. So, Jay, is there anyone that you want to highlight? The one guy I think has to be talked about is the stallion himself. Wild! Josh! Stallion! Excellent. I love Michael Keaton. Look, here's the weird thing about Josh Allen. Consistency rank over the course of the season, he was number 17. He finished as the number 21 quarterback.

He missed a huge portion of the year. He missed a huge portion. From week 7 through 11, he went dark. He got injured in week 6. And so you go, okay, he had pretty much the worst beginning to the season that you can imagine. I mean, it was just not pretty. His first few weeks, 13 points, then he had a good game 27, 1.9. That was week three, that was the game against the Vikings.

Yeah, oh, that's right, that they were supposed to lose. Like 17-point dogs. So here's what's crazy. If his season looked like that first half of the season, his consistency score would have been 34. Okay. Keep in mind there are only 32 quarterbacks. He would have been the 34th most consistent. However, if you take away those games and you look at what happened the second half of the year, which truth be told, I think is more indicative, especially for a rookie quarterback. He comes back off the injury. He's healthy.

They figured him out a little bit more. They've got their team clicking. He figured out who he is and he figured out what his team is. He figured out, I'm going to run the ball. Yeah. And he would have been the number two most consistent quarterback from that second half. So it's the definition of inconsistency. And yet at the end of the year, he was hyper consistent. I buy in to Josh Allen being a really good option for fantasy football.

I mean, we're not going to hear what you're not saying. So you're talking about fantasy football. Yes, for fantasy football, I think he's going to be, he's going to have enough rushing yards to be great. I mean, there are, there are plenty of guys, you know, I don't think that Tyrod Taylor was a great NFL player personally, but for fantasy, because scoring is broken and rushing quarterbacks are so valuable and so much more consistent because of their baseline.

How do you go away from using Josh Allen the way that he dominated the last five weeks of the season? All right. So let's talk about another quarterback who's known for his rushing. Let's compare these guys. You're interested in Josh Allen. Where are you on Lamar Jackson? Consistency rank of number 10. When he came in, week 11, he was solid for fantasy. He wasn't giving you everything you had hoped for.

in a rushing quarterback, but he was still solid. He led the team to the playoffs. So, I mean, this is Lamar Jackson's team. I would take Lamar Jackson over Josh Allen in the next year's draft. All right. I don't believe for one second, we've talked about this in the studio. I know you agree. I don't believe for one second that Lamar Jackson is going to be able to hold up for an.

Tire season, if they continue using him in the running game the way that they did this season. I don't doubt that they dial it back a little, but his, he's so unbelievable in open space as a runner that they, he obviously will continue that baseline. But when you, like, similar to Cam, I'm not afraid of drafting Cam. I'm not afraid of drafting Lamar Jackson or Josh Allen. Will.

one or all three of those guys possibly get injured halfway through the year because of their style of play? Sure. But guess what I'll do at that point? I'll just pivot. Yeah. I'll just go to another guy. I'll go to the Lamar Jackson that pops up or the Josh Allen that pops up. As we're going through this, it's just reinforcing for me again of how many quarterbacks I like. Oh, yeah. And we'll be happy to take late in a draft. Think about Carson Wins. Let's bring up Carson Wins. Yes, he was going to be the next name I go to. So people do not forget.

The regression was real. The touchdown regression was real for Carson Wentz. He had no great games. Yeah, which man. No top three type performance. None of those weak winners. He had one week where he was just an absolute butt hair away in week six, 24 and a half points. So I'll give him some, I'll give him credit for that one. But 73% of the time he was good.

Only 27% of the time did he bust in his shortened season. So it's just a reminder. Carson Wentz is still good for fantasy football. Hopefully his draft price, though, will have been, will get the proper adjustment that it deserved. Yeah. Because Carson Wentz to me was not a, not a top three guy like he was crushing in 2017. Coming off of the back.

issue. He'll get a solid bump down in ADP. And he'll be a very interesting guy for me. I think that he's talented. He can run the ball. He obviously can throw touchdowns like he did two seasons ago. And I think if you take that run that Nick Foles had, if you put a healthy Carson Winson, it's probably Nick, you know, it's probably Wins having that run. And then we're, and then he's being drafted very high. The back issue.
