The TRUTH About Fantasy QBs in 2018, Part 2

Yeah, the last, here's his last three years. 2015, 5.4, 6.6, 6.7, he plummeted to 4.2. Was this a causation of Aaron Rogers being, getting a little long in the tooth for you, or was this a product of the team around? I will say this. When I watched Aaron Rogers this year, he did not, some of this has to fall on Aaron Rogers. I don't think it's long in the tooth. I don't think he's not going to be able to bounce back.

I don't think this is the beginning of the end or any of those things. Some of this does have to fall on him. There were passes that you just don't see Aaron Rogers missed that he missed on the reg. I mean, he was just, you know, regularly missing some of those. He was lacking his metamusal. But I, yeah, he needed to be a little bit more regular. And, you know, the issue, though, is not just that. There is the double whammy of outside of Devante Adams.

There was just crap. There's a bunch of rookies trying to figure it out. They'd have some good games. And no one did. Marquez Valda Scantling would step up from time to time. Equanimius was there. You have the ghost of Randall Cobb. Yeah. You know, he's done. And then the ghost of Jimmy Graham. So that was part of it. And then you combine that with the worst imaginable, least creative route concepts from head coach Mike McCarthy.

which is why he gets the boot. So next year, it's going to be interesting to see what they do. Cobb is a free agent. I'm sure he's gone. I would believe so. That they're going to pay to bring him back. The early report is that they are going to pay to bring Jimmy Graham back. Sorry, Green Bay Packers fans. But they've got to, you know, hopefully the rookies that they drafted last year step up. And with their new, you know, offensive-minded coach, they can do a little bit more. Yeah, his ADP is going to be.

a fascinating thing to watch. Because he was always the number one or the number two quarterback that you would go after. Clearly, he won't be number one. He'll be number two behind. You think he'll stick with number two? I think he will stick at number two. He'll be drafted behind Pat Mahomes. That's my guess. Sure. Next on the list. Girid Garf. Neo-introducing Jared Girf. The player formerly known as King Goffrey, who is now known as Jared Garf.

for some stupid reason on this show. Hope you were a member of the Foot Clan over on Join the Foot. That was a Footcast breakdown. I mean, we literally broke down. My glasses were fogging up. We were crying over the stupidity of accidentally saying Garf. Number seven. Number seven on the final list, but number 13 in your heart and the consistency rank. Jared Goff. I can't even.

I got halfway through his name. It was like, this is wrong. Yeah, no, it's Gar. Jared Garf. The first half of the season, even more than the half, I would say two-thirds of the season was fantastic. 31% of his games were great. 63% of his games were at least good. But then the wheels fell off. Yes, they did. 31% bust rate. If you rode Jared Goff into the fantasy playoffs,

You did not make it. Or I should say, highly unlikely you survived what he gave you those weeks because it was putrid. So here's something interesting. I'm going to take a 30,000 foot view for a second. Go away from Jared Garth. I hope you have a space suit. Is that space? 30,000 is too high? Does that know what? Look.

Do airplanes not travel? I don't know. I think 30,000 feet. Is that cruising altitude? I think that's cruising altitude for a large plane. Well, to be fair, you still need a space suit if you were outside of a commercial airline. Okay. No, I don't think that's true. Yes, you would freeze to death. I'm falling. I'm going to warm up. Jay. Never. But here's what I wanted to look at. So there's an interesting thing. You'll start to see a pattern here as we're talking. When we talk about Jared Gough, when we talk about Drew Brees, when we talk about Philip Rivers, Kirk Cousins, all of a sudden this year, there was this massive trend of these quarterbacks who had such an amazing first two-thirds of the season, and they all fell off.

I went and I looked at all of these quarterbacks that I just named, and I took out weeks 13 through the rest of the season. And during that stretch, if you took those games away from them, they were all basically, if you did it one at a time, they all jump to the quarterback consistency rating of like number two. Everyone was there. But the problem was they all hit this wall or defense is caught up, whichever it is. And that's where I think we need to say, what is the truth of the quarterback position?

Because this year you could get to the playoffs with all those quarterbacks I named. But if you kept rolling with them and you weren't willing to stay water and pivot come that last five weeks? That's tough. Jared Goff from weeks two through 11, the quarterback two in total points. Yes, he was. He was playing fantastic. He was on fire. I mean, and like I said, if you take out his last weeks, he was the quarterback consistency during that time of quarterback two. I'm going to check. But I don't remember off the top of my head. When did you? No, Cooper Cop.

It was before week 13. It was definitely before then. I don't think that it was the cup. Okay. So his final game was 10, week 10. So it's near then. Week 11 the next week he had a great week. But then it, then the bye week and he was off. So the question when it comes to Jared Goff is which version was the real thing? Because when it comes to Drew Brees, you can have a different argument.

Was the arm getting a little weaker at that age down the stretch? You saw this from some of the aging quarterbacks. Jared Goff, I think it was more of a team thing. Lost Cooper Cup. Lost Todd Gurley. I think there's a lot to this Cooper Cup thing because you can look at when Jared Goff was great. Then all of a sudden, week six, you hit a snag. You know what week six was? Yes. That's when we thought Cooper Cup was out for the season.

and had zero receptions. So I think there, Cooper Cup is extremely important to this offense. And as his, as is C.J. Anderson. Yes. Yes. I believe future Super Bowl MVP. Yes. Oh, please let it happen. Oh, I would. Please let it happen. I would ascend immediately. I would just, I'm gone from the show. My belief is that Jared Goff is a guy I'm going to go hard after next year.

I think because of how he finished the year poorly, unless, of course, he has some great Super Bowl, Super Bowl MVP performance and everybody's on him. I think what you saw the first two-thirds of the season is more indicative of what you're going to get with Sean McVeigh, with high-powered offense, with health coming into a season. So I'm a fan of Jared Goff next season. I believe that it was team issues that caused the collapse in the last five weeks.

From young man to old man, Drew Brees comes into number eight. But a consistency rank of number 14. Man, it was a strange season for Drew Brees who was absolutely crushing. 40% of his games were great. And that's what carried him to that number eight finish because 33% of his games were bust. And you want to know when those games came?

When it matter for fantasy players. They all came at the end of the season. Yeah, the fantasy playoffs. So, you know, that's where I question, was it the arm? Was it actually the age, the wear, the tear of the season? Okay. You know, you saw the offensive lines starting to give up a little bit more pressure, and he didn't overcome that the way that you would have expected him to overcome that based on how he's playing the beginning of the year. I'm more worried about Drew Brees.

going into next season, then I am Jared Goff. I would draft Goff over Breeze, even if they were the same ADP. And I didn't mention it for Jared Goff, but I'm going to say it now because he was the same as Drew Breeze. The home road splits were incredible. Jared Goff was 13 points better at home. Drew Breeze, I mean, we know that Drew Breeze is better at home, but 11 points better at home.

that's hard to handle. Yeah. You know, I'm glad. For a full-time starter. I'm glad you bring that up with golf because I do believe that a lot of the success of golf, when they're at home and they can quiet the place down and he can basically have Sean McVe, you know, they get to the line early. And McVeigh, they put a man in motion, they take a look at what the defense is doing. They don't give him time to sub. And McVe basically will call in a play while he still got the.

earpiece working before that turns off, which is like 15 seconds left on the, on the, I want to say shot clock. And I'm going to roll with that on the shock clock. Sure. And so on the road, when it's loud and noisy and you can't hear that and he can't just have Sean McVeigh in his head, I wonder if that makes an impact. And then you also saw certain ones of those road games that really impacted the home road split. We have to be fair. There was the.

albatross of the game against Chicago. Right. Which was a super cold weather. I mean, this is a guy who grew up in California, went to California schools, you know, played it. He was Cal, right? Yeah. And then now he's Los Angeles. So now going to the cold weather game, I think, in week 14, where he put up a negative point performance. That's going to swing the tide of the home road splits. Do you have anything more for Drew Breed?

How do you feel about Drew Brees entering into next year? As we have, Drew Brees was one of the high, hottest contested players on this show. Definitely between you and I. I was super bullish. You were way off. Yes. And somehow we both won. Somehow we both won. And honestly, going into next year, I'm, I'm higher on him than I was going into this season. I'm certainly not.

going to be bullish to the point of what he was doing early in this season. I think that he's, look, he's a Hall of Famer. He's on a great offense. He's got everything you need. Yeah, I mean, he was solid, but never great. And that was the issue. Yes, 13% of his games were great. That's a putrid number for a top 10 quarterback. But 69% of his games were good. He only busted 25% of the time. He was completely hamstrung by his offense. Yes. And that is the problem with Russell Wilson.

Yeah, I mean, you cannot have. Because it's not changing. Well, yeah, I mean, they want to be a run, run, run the boat, you know, gently down the field type of team. Wow. Look at the. Oh, no. 407, 452. Yeah, he was ascending. 483, 546, 553. Because they realized they had one of the better quarterbacks in the league and they said, hey, let's make it Russell Wilson's team. But then he went from 553 passing attempts down to 427. That's like his sophomore year in the league. And as great as he is, as efficient as he is, as much as he had a perfect passer rating on 71 attempts to Tyler Lockett.
