Now we're taking a top 15 wide receiver and just completely, it's not like, okay, let's move him. He's not going to be 15. Maybe that was an outlier. Maybe he should be more in the 20s. But now these other pieces come in. So he's in the 30s. Let's put him in 60. I can't imagine that the Chargers with Philip Rivers, who had such a good rapport. Tyrol Williams is a young player. They were excited about. We talked about him early last year. And he's good. Let me call you out for a second, though. Sure.

14:19 ↗

Are you now saying that you believed he was a 60s guy? I am saying yes. Because if you're saying your opinion is changing, you believe he was a 60s. I am saying that I forgot. I wrote him off. Okay. So when I looked at my rankings, when Mike Williams came to town and Keenan Allen came back, I did what most people did, which is just when it comes to Travis Benjamin, Tyrell Williams, just kind of discount them, you know, like they're like their.

14:42 ↗

completely out of the league. And when I looked, it really was because of the work I was doing on the consistency charts. When I saw what Terrell Pryor did last year, week by week, oh my goodness. All these Tyrells. You forgot him. They're different names. You can't even say his name right. Well, he's barely on my mind, right? I mean, he's just now coming back. In a couple weeks, I will remember Tyrell Williams. All right. But right now, Tyrell Williams, when I was looking through those consistency charts, I was blown away with, he was really.

15:11 ↗

you know, on a weekly basis, a helpful fantasy player last year, who is undrafted, and that doesn't usually happen. Now, could he go Kamar Aiken? Could he be just the beneficiary of, you know, injuries in front of him, and he's going to go away? It could happen. But I'm...

15:30 ↗

How could you not take that risk when he's at the end of the draft? I mean, the guys that are going in front of him are... Don't give me 59 names, Jason. No, I'm just saying Zay Jones and Tyler Lockett and Kevin White. These are guys that are going ahead of them because of potential. Yeah, now you have Mike Williams has done it. He did it this last year. So I would rather take my flyer on Tyro. We need to move on. Sure. From Terrell Pryor and...

15:59 ↗

Tyrell Williams and ASJ. All right. Before, I'm not going to do a whole notes segment today, news and notes segment, because I want to get into the main event. I want to talk about these five ways that you can become a better fantasy football player for this upcoming year. But real quick, John Ross has shoulder surgery, Bengals' first round pick. Might not be ready for the start of training camp. Yeah. Had surgery. That's still recovering. That's bad news. Geo Bernard might be held out of the first couple regular season games.

16:29 ↗

In my mind, I think Geo Bernard at this point can be nearly written off. If he's coming back from that significant of an injury and you mix that in with Joe Mason, Jeremy Hill in the mix, not written off, but severely discounted. I think it's going to be hard for him to break in three, four weeks into the season, into whatever rotation is going on. I do. I completely agree. Especially coming off in ACL where it might take you extra time. Look at Dionne Lewis. He didn't come back with.

16:59 ↗

of vengeance last year. Did you ever really feel like Dionne Lewis was back? No. There was a week. Yeah. So I think there'll be a week of Gio, but I think you're never going to really feel like he's back. And then Orleans Darkwell. Oh, in terrible Smash Jackson News. Yeah. Smash Jackson took off. This is actually, this is Paul Perkins. This is not Smash Jackson News when the news goes bad. When the news is bad is Paul Perkins. I mean, Orleans Dark was a great name. It is. Are we in agreement there? Oh, it's a great name.

17:29 ↗

Yeah, Orleans Darkwa, extensive first team work. This is the problem. Shane Berean, Orleans Darkwa. Wayne Galman. I mean, Shane Verne again. Now, Wayne Galman probably works in accounting with Paul Bergen. Oh, for sure. But, uh, Orleans Darkwa is solving crimes. That guy is a beast. Is that because you're making a Darkwing duck connection? It could be. It could be. You didn't even think about that. That's just underneath. All right. So.

17:58 ↗

Much to read into that? Not a lot from me other than the fact that Orleans Darkwood did come back after being a free agent. They brought him back. He's getting some reps. I don't know why. Was Arlene's darkwa healthy at the end of the year when Paul Perkins took over that started? No, he got hurt. Okay. Yeah. So that does matter then. Yeah, it does. All right. We're going to get into the main event here. Before we do, I want to thank today's sponsor, pristine auction.com. We could not be bigger fans of pristine auction. You can see them right on our wall.

18:28 ↗

There's a brand new Diggs jersey. I don't know if there has been an autographed jersey that we have switched out on the wall that has gotten more praise and attention than the Diggs jersey. Oh, people like them on YouTube. People love the purple. People went crazy about this. We have a pristine auction autographed jersey. They are the leaders in sports memorabilia sales on the web. They're local to our area. So we've visited their warehouse. We know their team. Absolutely amazing company. Check them out at pristine auction.com. You can join.

19:25 ↗

All right, time for this next segment. We're probably going to have a debate about this drop. What? Nothing is your knife. I'm not dead. Yeah. He says he's not dead. Yes, he is. I'm not. He isn't. Well, he will be soon. He's very ill. I'm getting better. Well, there you have it. The weirdest drop for an intro. I don't see how it's possibly weird. So Mike goes home, and to his credit, you spend time at your house for the company.

20:04 ↗

You make a drop, and I don't want to... You make all the drops. You're an amazing man. I don't want to destroy you on this, but when you played that one for me, I didn't get it, man. Well, I understand that I do things sometimes that are too high concept for you, and you can't wrap your brain around it. The person who is saying, I'm not dead, that's the fantasy player. Okay. That's our audience. They're saying, I'm not dead, and the man, the oppressor, is saying, yeah, you are.

20:31 ↗

Get out of my face. You have nothing to offer me. And this fancy sports, no, I'm getting better. So what you're saying here, Mike. This would not have made it into the show if Brooks hadn't liked it. I support. Yeah. So what you're saying is. But that's because you like the movie. So if we just put a quote from any movie you like, you're going to be on board. Perhaps. That's how perhaps. It sounds like this, this show of Five Ways to Get Better. We are the cure for the black plate. Yeah. Now we have to lean. Now we have to lean into it. Incredible.

21:00 ↗

All right, five ways to become a better fantasy football player with Monty Python. All right. Let's go with number one. One of my favorite things to talk about. That's the best place to start. You can't count down, Mike. You can go 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. I like to start at the beginning. You ever done a podcast before? I don't think these are weighted. No, they're not. They're not waited. They're just five tips. They're just five tips. This is my favorite one to talk about.

21:29 ↗

And it is this. Know your league, not just your roster, okay? Know your league, not just your roster. And this can be explained in any number of ways, and you guys can jump in and share what you think. But the way that your league mates play fantasy football, the way that they sign players, the way that they think about players, the way they think about your team, the way they draft, all of that has an impact on the way you play.

21:57 ↗

and the way your team performs and what you can do during the draft. And that may seem like, well, duh. But a lot of players don't play that way. A lot of players play with a cheat sheet out in front of them. I'm on an island. You're on an island. You're in a vacuum. You've got your cheat sheet and your blinders on. And I'm going to tell you from years and years of playing, my biggest wins, trade-wise, strategy-wise, have often come from knowing the people in my league.

22:26 ↗

Not just the players on the field. Certainly. I mean, the first thing that comes to mind when we talk about this is, and I think we mentioned this, we alluded to it a couple episodes ago when we were talking about our pet peeves, but is taking advantage of the news guy. There's the, you know, if there's someone in your league that is the new, like.

22:48 ↗

He sees the news. He thinks he's got it first, and he's going to go out and immediately, before thinking things over, he's going to trade for the guy. Orleans Darkwa coming to that guy's roster. Exactly. You know, you make sure that he's seen that link and you go trade him Orleans Darkwa or, you know, get Paul Perkins from his team super cheap. Those type of things. You do this all the time in our league. You're speaking to me? I am speaking to Andy. Andy always takes advantage of the.

23:17 ↗

the one or two guys that are very news reactionary. And I say, good for you. And this has a lot of different impacts. One of the ways you need to think about your league and not just your roster is filtering the advice that you get, even from a show like this. Your league may have unique rules. That means unique ranking. Scoring system, for example, if you're not aware of the Scotty Fishbowl.

23:45 ↗

It's this huge mega tournament that Scott Fish shout out to my man Scott Fish who puts this thing on every single year. It's massive. Epic. It's like 500 players or something in it. But every year he changes up the scoring system. For example, this year, there is no PPR for wide receivers or running backs. However, there's PPR for tight ends. And then there's a point per first down.

24:11 ↗

So this radically changes things. And we frequently get questions of people saying, well, if it's, we have a PPR league, but I'm also getting, you know, a half point per carry. You're like, well, holy crap, man. It changes some stuff. Yeah, that changes everything. You're your, David Johnson's, the level, they go even further into the stratosphere. And so it's, you have to know.

24:36 ↗

your scoring system do not enter your draft without making sure you know exactly how everything is going to be scored and i'm going to give you another example let's say you play in a league and we get these type of questions all the time you play in a league where uh i don't know maybe you're not big patriots fans maybe everybody in the league isn't a big patriots fan well if you draft just based on our cheat sheet and you put everybody right in their adp line that's not knowing your league better than uh uh

25:03 ↗

That's not knowing your league. And using it to your advantage. And using it to your advantage. Because maybe you can get those Patriots two rounds later. Maybe you can trade a guy to the humongous, I don't know, the Charger fan in your league. Absolutely. Or I employ the late round quarterback strategy. I know that there are other guys in the league who they'll take theirs earlier. But let's say you play in a league where everyone takes their quarterback early. You can still wait.

25:30 ↗

But there's going to be an earlier point where these guys are starting to take their backup quarterbacks. And you know that you have to jump in. You can't just wait infinitely because, oh, well, my strategy says I'm not going to grab a quarterback until the 14th round is you have to play to the room. Yeah. And you learn the tendencies of both of your leaguemates and how they think and how they play. And you know what? Write these things down. Yeah, it's not a bad idea. When you're in a draft, you know, just.

25:59 ↗

Pay attention to what these people are doing. Yeah, some of them, the more years you play with the same people, you're going to get to know that. I mean, the two things that really come to mind are the news guy and then the fan guy. Of course. It's just natural to me now. I know the guys in my league, and I'm going to go immediately first, if I'm trading with a certain player, I'm going to go, do I have any Green Bay Packers? Because they will be so much more valuable to him.

26:25 ↗

And he wants them. Yeah, and there's also the veterans guy and the draft picks guy and things like that. Oh, the draft picks guy, the young guns guy. Yeah. And sometimes when you mock draft with players from your league, you learn their tendencies that way. And you can be so surprised. Sometimes you're so into like, if you listen to this show every day or you're reading rankings every day, and then you go mock draft with a random person from your league, you might be shocked at where players are going and where they value them. So that is tip number one, know your league, not just your roster. Tip one, B.

26:55 ↗

is all the that guys, don't be those guys. Don't be those guys. Be the guy that you go, oh, yeah, that guy's good at fantasy football. That's right. You don't get anything by them. All right. Number two, very important. How do you become a better fantasy football player? Oh, Jason's doing the guns with his hand. He's doing the guns. What bullets? What ammunition do you got there? There's a quick draw. It's just a find.

27:24 ↗

Your quick draw. This is what it's written up as. Find your quick draw news option. Find your quick draw news. And what we mean is potty news. Okay. Right? I mean, that's really what we're talking about here. We're talking about it. Explain this hot tip. Sure, the hot tip. The explanation not needed. You can call it the quick draw news or the potty news or whatever you want. But basically find your app or whatever.
