Mike locks football time in the Disney vault

Mike refuses to deploy the show's special football-time phrase for the Footies. The hosts say he must protect it and compare its controlled release to Disney locking Aladdin and other VHS tapes in a vault.

summary

Episode notes

The annual Footie Awards arrive in gold envelopes after thousands of listeners vote, and the hosts repeatedly call the trophies heavy, expensive, illustrious, and physically destined for NFL players through the mail. Before the ceremony, Mike refuses to spend the show's football-time phrase on the Footies, guarding it like Disney once locked special VHS tapes in a vault. Andy and Mike both wear championship shirts to welcome Jason back, while Mike's recent dynasty title has led to enough victory GIFs that reactivating the league temporarily clears them before he resumes posting. The award results become a map of show lore. The annual Poopiest Pants award goes to Austin Ekeler after Kyle Pitts won the prior year. Kyle sends Puka Nacua's rookie records into the show, and the hosts tease Jason that his joy comes from Puka being his League of Record keeper and franchise player. Nickname of the year goes to Brett Rippin' Farts with a reported 43 percent, preserving the nickname beyond Brett Rypien's playing relevance; Jason later jokes that he protected the vote with door-to-door campaigning, his children's education fund, robocalls, and server farms. The final category recaps Show 1500's musical, Jason's Game Perv bush-creeper, the Alvin Wheel of Shame, geese talk, old-man feeling, and the Andrew/Josh trade betrayal. The betrayal wins with 47 percent, while Brooks has already released all ten moments as a YouTube compilation.

Inside these gold envelopes are the most important pieces of information ever known to humanity in the year of 2024. We're talking about the footies and NFL players will actually get something of substance in their lives this year because of this show, the footies are going to be in the mail. Stay tuned to find out who wins them all. A fantasy footballer's podcast with your host, Andy Holloway, Jason Moore. And Mike Wright. Ah, welcome in. No. No, Jason. It's funny time, Mike. This is a pretty big deal. Yeah, as is that phrase. It's reserved for football time. And when I have players who are playing on island games. The awesome forbant time. Welcome into the show. No, Mike has to protect it. Yeah. He has to protect. People may want that, but it's like the old, uh,

1:15 ↗

That old Disney vault where they put all the VHS tapes. Yeah. You know, you don't let Aladdin out every, you know, every week. It's too special. Even though the sales would have been better. No, I completely agree. I'm just, I think where we disagree is I find the footies are extraordinarily valuable. Mike thinks are stupid. Well, Mike and I've been busy lately. I mean, I got my shirt on. Oh, you dressed up for the show? Yeah, I got my championship shirt on. Oh, what did you do? I dressed up for the show too! Mike has the other other championship shirt. Looking good champ. Yeah, nice, nice job champ. This is a family. Take off your shirt. What do you got under there? This is a family friendly show. So I will not speak my mind. Well, we do have the footy awards today. Thousands and thousands of you have voted. Are you my shirt, Jay? Yeah, I was. It looks pretty nice. Oh, man. Yeah.

2:11 ↗

Looking good, looking good. Yeah, thousands of you have voted. We have the footy awards that we'll announce here shortly. We'll react a little bit to the weekend's madness. I mean, football. Football is fun. Football is just crazy, man. It's very fun. Have you seen the playoffs? Jason, you got something to add? Welcome back, by the way. Thanks for having me back. We welcomed you back with these our outfits. It's a great way to be welcomed by two champions. Yeah, we had the most votes ever in the Footy Awards this year as well. But no, have you seen like, I don't know if it was a real or a video on YouTube, but I was watching it. And they were basically saying like the, they were making the point that the only thing people actually watch on TV anymore is football. Oh, live television. Yeah, in terms of live television. Like out of the 50 largest watched events of the entire year, it's like 48 football games. And then I think there was one political.

3:11 ↗

Like a debate or something? Probably like the State of the Union or something. Oh, okay. And then there was the Oscars. The Oscars. Yeah. And then the other 48 were football and almost- NFL. I believe so. Yeah, I think so. So like the other sports didn't sneak in? I thought there was some college football in there, but maybe it's just literally just the NFL. Like the NBA championships? No, not in the highest watched events. No. So like TV is now just watching football. And so we watched the playoffs and it did not disappoint. I mean. Such a good playoff weekend. So far, still got a couple games to go tonight, but goodness gracious. Well, last night. That's right. That's right. We don't know. We're recording before the games have happened. But what good games they were. Yeah, all that snow. The way the Steelers performed was good to bad. Yeah, I mean, we spent the weekend doing our annual or monthly debate on domes versus not domes and retractable roofs and weather and old school football.

4:07 ↗

Yeah, it was a fun debate. And that was a good time. Lots of opinions. It was a fun debate. There's so many opinions. I really am. Half of them are right. I am. Well, I was going to say, yeah, like I don't know how flexible you are, but I really am team retractable. That's fine. Because I do, I want 95% of football played outdoors. Yeah. I think that's where it should be played. It's where you play it in grade school and high school and college. It's beautiful. The weather is delightful. It's an outdoor sport. However, I do, I'm willing to draw the line at. Can't throw the ball. Hurricane level of forces. Happened to hire half your city to clear the snow out, things like that. But yeah, okay, so it was the top 100 most watched.

4:56 ↗

U.S. TV broadcasts of 2023. And there were, yeah, it was 100% football minus two events. And three of the games were college. And the rest were the NFL. So why did they put in the key? Oh, they're like, this is a perfect. This is one of those, find the turkey. Like the Thanksgiving parade made it. And I could not find it. But it's in there. It is? Where's Waldo? It's in there somewhere. So wait, the Thanksgiving parade was one of them? Yeah. I was wondering why it was in the key and not in the actual program. We do. Does everybody here turn the parade on? No. It might make it on. We do. I don't know. Yeah, when I was 12. Oh my gosh. You have children, though, right? They don't care at all. What are the big popular balloons these days? I don't know. Snoopy's still out there. Snoopy? Snoopy.

5:50 ↗

Exactly. They didn't upgrade them. They didn't change them. It's just a newbie. But yeah, football, football was fun. What else do we got going on? We got the DFS pass. Right now, it's free during the NFL playoffs. So you can go and pick that up, DFSPass.com throughout the rest of the playoffs. So check that out. We have a quick question today from Instagram. Here's the question. Carr Stimke writes in and says, When is a good time to turn the season over for a dynasty league? Is it post Super Bowl? Post your Super Bowl, which has already happened. Personally, in every dynasty league that I'm in, I think that the right answer is as soon as the championship game is over and you know who your champion is, it goes to next season. So you reactivate your next year's league if you're on a platform that requires you to reactivate. You refill the fab budget for offseason acquisitions in a dynasty league.

6:46 ↗

you open up trading because now you're ready to, ready to rock. Yeah, that's what we just did. You know, Mike took it home in our dynasty league. Sure did. And we refreshed to the next year, which cleared out many, many gifts that he had already posted. But then he has resumed, like we are kind of keeping each other accountable at this point. Definitely. When he posts something, it reminds me to post something. That's a good reminder that I should go post. I'm going to keep restarting these leagues. All right, before we get into the Footy Award winners, again, thanks to everybody who voted. We should talk about these games. Let's start with the 45 to 14 drubbing Houston, dominated, flacco, pumpkined. Yeah, he did. And in the second half, though, like, the Browns, the game was really tight at halftime, right? Am I remembering that correct? You are not. I don't believe so. I don't think it was super tight. It was closer.

7:48 ↗

What was the score? The score was 24 to 14. Okay, so they had gotten a touchdown like right before the half. Yeah. But it was close and the Browns were playing well and it felt like the... It was all back and forth at that point and the one throw where I don't know if we ever got the answer was, was Joe Flacco throwing it away or was he actually trying to make the throw to the receiver? Because it ended up in between both of those options. And it became a pick and then it was just, it was done. C.J. Stroud is the youngest quarterback ever to win a postseason game. He's 22 years old. He played out of his mind yet again. Yeah, he did. They don't have Tankdale. They lost Noah Brown. Didn't matter. Nico Collins, Dalton Schultz, Brevin, Jordan. If you have CJ Stroud in a Dynasty League, I want you to hold some sort of party and event for your...

8:42 ↗

for people to come and celebrate you because I can't imagine wanting a quarterback much more than him. Oh, well, we talked about Stroud a lot on the... Where did he slot in on the dynasty show? Well, it wasn't, it was not just where he slots in. It became a conversation of who do you want more now, C.J. Stroud or Anthony Richardson. Stroud, easy. Okay. Easy. I don't know this. I don't think that's easy at all. I do. Okay. Well, you should check out the episode. Yeah, no, I mean, I'm not saying there's no debate there, but look, Anthony Richardson, we saw crumbs from Anthony Richardson to no fault of his own, just little bits of what he brings to the table. But one of the discussion points had to have been the fact that this is a player that is going to be exposed to injury on a regular basis. Yeah, that was talked about. That's going to be part of the equation. His path to fantasy glory is very clear when you run the football like that. So I don't blame you.

9:40 ↗

I just think C.J. Stroud is. He's got a 15-year window now of like being a, you know, Mahomes Herbert-esque type of talent. I'm just so impressed with that kid. Yeah, he is great. Both quarterbacks in this game threw three touchdowns. Five of the six were just to the Texans. Oh, right. Poor flaco. Yeah. The only other thing I think you could say positively. from the Browns is just David Najoku continues to look like a star. And he's going to be so interesting where he's drafted next year because they came out and confirmed Watson's going to be the guy. And that is. Oh, yeah. Yeah, the fansky came out. The problem to me is that is that he was great with Flacco. And we had a couple games of him playing with Deshaun Watson. He was good with Watson. He was mediocre with what he was average with Watson. He was not special.

10:35 ↗

And so that's the question. Yeah, they were scoring more with Fleco. I mean, really, that's the crux of it. Yeah, that will be a huge debate. I will not have the level of confidence in Najoku going into next year with Watson that I do right now with Flacco for sure. But they have talked about keeping Flacco around. So we'll see. We'll see what he wants. Kansas City just manhandled Miami, 26 to 7. It was basically one good play by Miami in the entire game. Yep. And it was the fourth coldest game in NFL history. Nice. And it was all on peacock. Yeah. People are not happy. Yeah, I mean, people aren't going to be happy when they have to. They watched. People can grumble and get all mad online all they want. And then they said, was it 23 million people watched it? When my dad texted me and said, is this game only on peacock? I began to wonder how much tech support I was about to provide. Yeah, it's across the nation.

11:33 ↗

The youth has been helping the elderly learn what Peacock is and what streaming services are. But it was successful. It was the most streamed television, anything in the U.S. of all time. Yeah. Probably for a live event. I mean, I imagine because it was all dedicated streaming, you're saying. So people were not. Okay. It's unbelievably Bush League. I don't think it's Bushley. I think it is. You're going to have to... NBC pays a lot of money, right, for that game? You're going to have to force the issue someday, and this is the day. They didn't force the issue in the morning. Yeah, but how could people complain about this when their Thursday night football games are on Prime all year? Prime is a pay service? Yeah, playoff game feels different. Okay, so you feel like because it was a... Yeah. It was something people expected to be able to watch. It's always like this, though. When Monday Night Football moved to like...

12:29 ↗

ESPN. It's like, oh, that's Bush League. It's always going to be like that. This is progression. Let it happen. You're happy with, I'm absolutely happy. Let's get everything on streaming. It's whatever. It's still Bush League. Once everything is streaming. My parents didn't pay. They didn't want to watch. Once 100% of all programming is streaming, I can stop being spoiled by people online who are watching more like on satellite and they know what happens 30 seconds ahead of me. Stop it. Let's all get on slow internet together. Oh my gosh. Sometimes we've had these games, Foot Clan, where like the three of us are watching the game on three different providers. Mike will be on like direct TV. I'll be like on YouTube TV. And Jason's like, maybe he's on YouTube TV, but he's also driving or something. And then it's like, Mike will be way out ahead. I'll be like, I can't comment on the play. But sometimes it'll be vague. It'll just be like, OMG. And then we're watching close. Or there it is. And then we're like, what?

13:22 ↗

There's what. Yeah, and that it started at that, and then it had to be, I have to type in what I want to say, and then I wait 20 seconds, and then I send it. Well, look, let's get back to the game. Miami. That game sucked. Huge wet fart of a performance. I'm super disappointed in them. They didn't show up. I don't care what anybody wants to say about the weather. Both teams had to play about the weather. It's not like they, you know, the roof came on when Kansas City. had the ball. And it's not like every player in Miami has never played in cold weather in your life. That's a ridiculous assessment. They've all come from different colleges all over the world. Not this. Okay, but listen, you've got to be prepared to play a football game. I've looked at the numbers, by the way. The actual numbers of bad weather games versus like these dome games. It's like a four point difference. This game was not, what, 33 points in this game. Miami didn't show up. They had every ability to win home field advantage for the...

14:16 ↗

last five games of the season that they farted away, and then they go and they get their comeuppance by having to go into Arrowhead. So I, look, they suck. Two of sucks. McDaniels didn't have a good game plan. I would, if we're, if we're talking about all the sucky things, I think Kansas City Chiefers, Kansas City Chiefs, wide receivers, the wide receivers not named Rishie Rice, they all suck. They're terrible. But Rashi Rice looked very good. Of course. Yeah, the cold didn't ruin Rashi Rice. How many playoff Arrowhead games does Rashi Rice have? How much experience in that cold Arrowhead weather? One. Oh, okay. So maybe John Wada could have made a play. He does live. He lives in cold weather now. Oh, wow. If you live around, look, you open your fridge long enough. You can get acclimated for that football game coming up. I mean, it's ridiculous. Win home field and then you cannot complain.

15:11 ↗

All they had to do is win the last week of the year. I don't disagree with that part. Green Bay blew the... I don't even know what to say. The barn doors off. The respect, the pride, the honor, the... I mean, every nice, good feeling that a cowboy fan has or has ever had whatever is honorable, whatever is good, they were embarrassed. I mean, flat out shameful. I'm embarrassed to have picked them to go to the Super Bowl. I'm embarrassed to have been associated with a team that couldn't show up at home where they've dominated all year long. And humongous credit to Green Bay. 4832. That's not the real score. It was 4816. And then the backups came in. Green Bay just undressed this vaunted defense play after play. Dallas would spend the whole drive going down the field over six minutes to get a field goal.

16:08 ↗

and then Green Bay would score on like four seconds, and then they'd do it again. I'm glad that's the conversation because the DAC didn't play well. He did not play well. But the defense was. It wouldn't matter. The defense was equally bad. Like, there were a couple pivotal moments where it was, okay, if Dallas can do this, it really does feel like they can get back in the game. And they got, like the second half, they got the field goal, really should have had the touchdown. A few moments later. It was okay. Let's see one big defensive side. Oh, nope. No, they can't stop anybody. Jordan Love is destroying them. Luke Musgrave running wild like he's invisible. And they, and I think Reed had zero yards. Jordan Love had a perfect passer rating. Aaron Jones was doing whatever he wanted. People forget how much time Aaron Jones missed this year that really could have hidden how good this Green Bay team.

17:07 ↗

was capable of being. When you have a play-action game like that, they dominated Dallas. Dallas is an embarrassment. It's been 29 years since they got out of the divisional round. And this is coming from somebody that was actively rooting for DAC, wanted to see DAC and CD carry on. What they brought me and Mike in fantasy. Right. But they were spent. No, I mean, fantasy-wise, they kept it alive. I guess on the end. The end box scores, DAC was like 403. CD-LAM was like 9 for 110. And then Detroit, 2423. What a game. Hanging on, knocking off Matthew Stafford and the Rams. I mean, that was a great, great fun to watch game. So much scoring back and forth. Then the defenses start stepping up in the second half. It looked like after the first quarter that this was going to be a game that hits like a hundred point over under. The defenses step up. The run game is stopped. People have to come through. Puka.

18:05 ↗

Just was amazing. And really what this game came down to for me was the Rams moved the ball no problemo. But when they got near the end zone, the Lions defense stepped up. Yeah. And they just couldn't punch it in because you can't run on them there. And that's how the Rams score so many of their touchdowns. They just kept throwing to Cooper Cup. And Cooper Cup, unfortunately, did not. Congrats. Congrats to the Lions fans out there. Who now, thanks to the Cowboys. losing, we're going to host another playoff game. Yeah, that's right. Yeah. So they will play the winner of the Philadelphia Tampa Bay game in Detroit. And I can't wait. That will be fun. First playoff win in 32 years. Oh, man. So that's crazy. Yes.

18:55 ↗

So as of this recording, we don't know the outcome of the Steelers bills, Eagles, Buccaneers games. Yeah, we do. Well, we know the Steelers bills outcome. Okay. Oh, great. Dude, if you, if that goes sideways for you, you're going to be. Look, I love your Twitter. I love Jason FFL. At Jason FFL. I love Tomlin. I love the Steelers as an organization. They got no chance without Watt to beat the bills in Buffalo. No chance. It's over. Keep saying it. It's already done. I'm not worried. And the Eagles Buccaneers game? No, AJ Brown? That one looks a little scary. You know, you want to say the Eagles. They should be able to do it, right? They should. They absolutely should. I think they will, but. Humorous things to be talking about when it's over. Did you guys see the, it was probably pro football talk that was put, but they were talking about that Mike Tomlin will be deciding at the end of the season what he will be doing. Wow, I didn't see that. There's at least some grumblings that.

20:01 ↗

No matter what happens that Mike Tomlin will be. Just his choice? He walks away? I guess. I don't know. We hadn't talked about Bill Belichick leaving, right? I mean, and Jared Mayo taking over as the coach. We have not talked about that yet. And then Tyler Higby tore his ACL and MCL. Yeah. That's a brutal hit. I don't know if you could say he tore it. Someone else tore it for him. That was a brutal hit. It was so bad. So Bill Belichick is out there. You got any predictions right now? Yeah. He's going to sign with someone and lose with them.

20:31 ↗

That's my prediction. Do you want to pick a team? Oh, man. The Washington Manders. I hope you retire. Where do you think he goes? I do too. I do too. I hope he retires. He's too great. Go live your life, man. Too great of an all-time coach. I think Atlanta. So I think that's the odds-on favorite right now is the Falcons. So yeah, Gerard Mayo took over in New England. They didn't even have to go through a hiring process. Yeah, they had all the contracts kind of set up for it. I loved all the NFL insiders reporting as soon as Mike Vrable is let go. Whoa, Vrable will be on the fast track to being the Patriots head coach if they choose to move on from Bill Belichick. And then moments later, Bill Belichick, they are moving on. Oh, Mike Vrable. And they're like, no, actually we turns out. New England had this contractually figured out the whole time that Mayo was going to be.

21:30 ↗

The replacement, Bill knew, Mayo knew, like everyone knew. Where was the reporting on that NFL Insiders? No. How do you not know? No. And so Mayo takes over. Yep. All right. Quick break and back with the footie awards. Well, you know, there's not many things in this world is illustrious, incredible. Valuable. As the heavy. Heavy. Heavy. Expensive. Incredible. Footy Awards. Yeah. Let's do it. Welcome to the annual footy award show featuring the best and worst in fantasy football, including performance of the year, the Waver Wire Wonder, the Poopiest Pants Award, and many more. It's the annual footy award show. Let's go.

22:37 ↗

Oh boy. Oh, boy. I love that music. The results are in. The music with the very professional voice announcing. Good work, Jason. Thank you. And just talk about regular thinking. And of course, the Poopiest Pants Award. Very popular award. Yeah. You would think people don't like it, but they love getting that. They actually do. Well, it's a footie. A footie's a footie. The people are going to be excited to get it. Yeah. You're not mad. You're like, oh, I only got. It's the special effects Oscar. No, we didn't even make up any names to get them these footies. These are all the real. These are all the real people. All right. Let's get to it. We've got all the votes, the most votes we've ever had for a footy award. Here we go. Performance of the year, which single week performance was the most impressive. And we had Dax Week 10.

23:33 ↗

Lamar Jackson's week 17, five touchdown performance, Devon A-chan with the 203. The Christian McCaffrey, week 15 against Arizona, three touchdowns. Jamar Chase, 15 for 192 and three back in week five, and then Amari Cooper and C.D. Lam, week 16 and 17, Cooper, 11 for 265 and 2. CD Lamb was 13 for 227 and 1. Those were your nominees. Now, I am curious, who did you vote for? I voted for Devon A-chan, my man. I loved them. Mike, did you vote for CD? Of course they voted for CD, man. I got this shirt because of Cedley Lamb. The winner is. Wow. Wow. Amari Cooper, week 16 with 31.36% of the vote. All right. That was such a huge performance. I mean, you Andy, you know. Yes. Yes. It was also not super expected. Like C.D. Lamb against the Detroit secondary. We knew good things should happen.

24:34 ↗

But Amari Cooper with Joe Flacko, when you really need him? How close was it? Listen, how close this was. The winner was 31.36% Amari Cooper. The runner up with 31.5%. Whoa, they both had 31%. A 32 vote difference in week three. So it would have only been, you know, a 33 vote difference without you, Jay. Wow. So congratulations. Marri Cooper. And of course, your footie is in the mail. Sorry, CD, I tried. That was close. I'm sorry, A-chan, you missed out on 33 people. It could have changed the date of your life. CD-Land was third, but it was down at 12%. Okay. All right. For number two, we've got the Fantasy Reaper's Man of the year, which unfortunately is the player's injury that hurt fantasy managers the most. Last year, Cooper Cup took this home. This year, the nominees were Nick Chubb, J.K. Dobbins, Aaron Rogers, Joe Burrow, Justin Jefferson.

25:33 ↗

And Mark Andrews, and the winner is the first round running back, Nick Chubb at 41%. That's pretty good vote. Runner up was only 24%. So this is a pretty big landslide victory for Nick Chubb. What week was that? Justin Jefferson. That was weak two. Oh, man. Yeah, I mean, he lost the whole season. That sucked. It was not good. But if there's any consolation to a devastating, horrible, gruesome-looking injury, I got to think Chubb's feeling pretty good about it now because you've got a footie. It's in the mail. Congratulations. The last year, all the rehab totally worth it. I would imagine that is two words. If we had a microphone in his house right now, you'd say, worth it? Worth it? Yeah. I tried to tuck Nick Chubb on my, on my roster for the final week of the year. Just in case he was a keeper, valuable player. But.

26:36 ↗

He played on Thursday and he couldn't do it. We'll see when he comes back next year. Yeah, please come back. Mr. Nicholas Chubb. Let's see. We got the poopiest pants. Oh, the right man in charge of this one. Despite high expectations, this player let fantasy managers down over and over again. Last year was Kyle Pitts. This year, the nominees. Austin Eckler, the running back two. Travis Kelsey, the tight end won. We are unforgiving for the end of the season. Patrick Mahomes, the quarterback one, Tony Pollard, RB8, Damien Pierce. Remember that guy? RB 18. And Miles Sanders has the running back 20. There's only one guy. There's only one guy? Yeah. There is only one man. Oh, 50%. Yeah, I know. I know it would be a landslide. Sorry, Austin. But hey, worth it. Worth it. Worth it. So Austin Echler won. Austin Echler at 50.

27:36 ↗

The runner-up was appropriately named TP. Oh, Tony Pollard. Tony Pollard at just 17%. I mean, when you're the running back two drafted and the fourth pick overall. I mean, it's similar to Kelsey where they both got off to kind of strong starts. The problem is Eckler got injured. Then he came back and struggled a little bit. Looked like he was back and then. Yeah, yeah. It was almost the pump fake of you thought he was back. Like, that was even more pain. I'm old enough to remember week one, guys. Remember when Jason turned that trade down? Oh, wait, the, uh, I think I've run like sayquine and a couple, couple second round two twos and sake one. Okay, yeah. And you said no to that? I did. Yeah. And you wonder why some teams drafted Bryce Young before C.J. Stroud. We all make mistakes. All right. The waiver wire wonder award.
